Guest Speaker/ Moderator

PAG Moses G. Galabuzi – RC Bwebajja: The Guest speaker commended the president and his team for the work they are doing and their tremendous creativity in all club activities. Continuously reiterated that mother club is proud of the club and is moved by our innovation in all our club activities. He then added that the aim of RID 9214 is to have 25 clubs and that we as a new district, we were still struggling with the issue of membership and he encouraged members to do whatever it takes to increase our membership. He advised that we should look through our phone contacts and give at least 5 to 10 people the opportunity to join Rotary. He advised that we can even go door to door telling people about Rotary. He further challenged the president and his team to be the best and biggest Rotaract club in not just D9214 but the world over. APPROACHES TO DEMYSTIFYING MEMBERSHIP 1. Each One Bring One theory. 2. Building Unity Among Club Members

3. Have a system of energizing the members through motivations. 4. Create an atmosphere of healthy competition in the club etc. Rtn. Hellen Kirunda – RC Kiwatule: To give our potential members a meaningful Rotary experience, we were advised to offer them opportunities to make a positive difference and connect with others in our communities and throughout the world. They’ll make valuable friendships and feel good about Rotary and the work we are doing to make the world a better place. We were reminded to always have to ASK and Follow-Up. The speaker said must make recruiting the top priority of our club. The president cannot do everything, and knowing that will give us some freedom to focus on the most important thing. Having new members with new energy will help us have more people to raise money for The Rotary Foundation, serve our communities, and invite additional members/more smiling faces to our meetings and fun events. The president should firmly emphasize that this is the TOP priority in the club in order for other members come in and help. She spoke about knowing the club’s strengths, use a Recruiting Strategy and keep a list of potential future Rotarians, create a Recruiting folder that lists all the great things about our club, talk about Rotary wherever we go, celebrate when you get a new member and so much more that we can do to grow club numbers higher. Rtr. Ethel Bridgette – RC Kampala Ssese Island: In celebration of the membership month, this meeting was aimed at reminding club members about the many wonderful programs that our organization offers. We wanted to make sure that our members get to know them and take advantages of such opportunities. The speaker spoke about the Rotary Friendship Exchanges, Rotary fellowships, ROLI, RYLA, REI, Rotary action groups and so much more. She mentioned that all these programs are meant to make club members grow and make meaningful impact on the communities and our lives. She advised members to never look down on any club, district, zone and international program of Rotary. She assured us that getting ourselves involved in such programs will take us from one step to another step higher. Aunty Sue, Parvin, Makula: The Junction Crew from Salt TV: In line with the Membership and New Club Development Month, this meeting aimed at building unity among club members. The speakers noted that one of the most important responsibilities of a leader is to promote unity in a team. This does not mean that there won’t be disagreements or even periodic conflicts on the team or within the organization. But to be a unifier, the leader brings people together around a vision, a mission, or a project. Team

unity drives results. They added that a leader’s behaviour either promotes unity or division. They gave the following behaviours to promote team unity and reap the benefits: 1. Create a vision that team members understand and rally behind. Have team members participate in setting the team vision when possible. Team unity is the result of the team developing an achievable and meaningful vision. 2. Respect differences of opinion. Listen to team members, consider their ideas, and have a dialogue with those who differ. Explain your position respectfully and give them an opportunity to express their position. Be aware of your body language, sometimes it may speak louder than words. 3. Build trust within the team. Trust is an important component of unified teams. Provide opportunities for team members to get to know you and each other on a deeper basis through team events and activities. Manage trust issues in a timely manner and look to create opportunities for team members to interact and build their relationships. We must use positive behaviours to influence others to promote team unity of the shared vision. Positive influencing tactics include logical persuasion, appealing to values, consulting, and simply stating what you want done and why. If you use negative influencing tactics such as manipulation, intimidation or threats, this promotes division even to others on the team who observe these behaviours. Week 5

International Youth Day Webinar on Zoom

Guest Speaker/ Moderator DGE Peace Teremwe It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, looking over the groaning riparian blue lake, kindling its own symphony with a banner gently and yet mightily setting forth the mighty ‘ROTARACT CLUB OF BWEBAJJA.’ Little did we know, it was the beginning of a beautiful journey in what was referred to as the Black and White Induction Ceremony at the Sky Beach Resort. Fast forward, the ceremony was blessed with the presence of the ever knowledgeable, wise and generous DGE Peace Taremwa in the capacity of Guest of Honor, who would induct our 13 new members in the club, together with 4 honorary members with the president of our mother club. At the point of induction, you could not help but notice the diverse talent that would be newly constituted into the club. From beauticians, teachers, cabin crew, captains and business people. It was quite clear that the human capital in the club after that day would be even more powerful. We were also blessed with two PHFs, the CMP Joseph Ssengooba and the IPP Ninsiima Yoweri. On that same journey was the beautiful Atim Mercy Achaye, that initiated a contribution of 150 dollars to TRF. The event was successful and a new era of talented, service oriented and beautiful corporates came to pass. CMPs from the Rotaract Clubs of Bwebajja, Rubaga, Kasese, Nkumba Stewards: The International Youth Day is celebrated and observed every year on 12 August across the world. The day is marked for giving new initiatives and action taken by the youth. Also, on this day, the government and citizens come together to bring attention to the problems faced by the younger generation. Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic this year, the day was celebrated with events and competitions where youth were engaged in meaningful debates, talks, and discussions about the future and coming days. We were humbled to join in these celebrations with the rest of the youth and we held a virtual meeting that pulled over 60 members from our district to talk about issues faced by youth in our clubs. We also used this opportunity to continue informing the members on the call about the ongoing mentor me project for the young people. People in attendance where the Rotaract clubs of Bwebajja, Rubaga, Kasese, Nkumba Stewards and their change maker presidents were the speakers.

Mix and Mingle – Home Hospitality

CMP JB Ssengooba, DRRE Francis Matovu, YSC Hassan Nyenja.: On Sunday, 15 August 2021, the Rotaract Club of Bwebajja organized its third club retreat and first ever in the change making year, an attempt to rejuvenate the club's potential. This was boosted by mother club that is to say, it was well represented by the youth service chair and an Honorary member to our club Rtn. Hassan Nyenje. We were also humbled to have the presence of DRRE Matovu Francis from the Rotaract club of Nkumba stewards. This retreat was hosted by PAG Jemimah Ssemakade the proprietor of BANANA ECO RESORT. We began at 10:00. Change maker president remined members in attendance of the purpose of this club retreat and invited everyone to pay maximum attention to the proceedings. (Please find a detailed copy of the report attached here) Rtn. Okello Bonny: In the interest of rejuvenating the partnership with mother club, we decided that this Rotary year will see us have joint buddy groups for Both Rotary and Rotaract Club of Bwebajja. In celebration of the success achieved by the Kawuku buddy group in the month of July, the members decided to meet this month to plan for the coming months of service. This meeting was used as an opportunity by the members of the group to bond but most importantly to plan for a service project that will be implemented by this buddy group. We have a goal to see that every buddy group spearheads at least one community-based project done in the community that gives them the name of their buddy group. i.e., Kawuku, Kakindu, Bwerenga and Kasatiro. CMP – Joseph B. Ssengooba: In preparation for the 2021, 10th Edition of the Rotary Cancer Run, we were hosted for a fun filled overnight event dubbed Mix and Mingle Bonding Night. The pandemic has kept us home and out of sight from most club members but with strict observance of the SOPs against COVID19, we decided to link up and unwind. We spent a night at the President’s home; played various games, discussed both club and personal matters, enjoyed the glaring flames at the campfire and lot of other fun activities. At dawn, everyone was in their Cancer run kits ready to virtually join the rest of the district for the Rotary Cancer Run. Yoga activities and the marathon were held at Ssisa sub-county playground for a duration of two hours. Breakfast was later served and eventually members left at leisure.

Purpose

Training for better handling our social media handles

Social media has been our biggest tool in telling the world about rotary and what we are doing rotary. The club has over four social media handles. On Saturday 28th august the PR committee had a meeting to train all members on how to manoeuvre around these sites whilst making posts. It was indeed a learning experience as we discovered and explored how to create posts that will expand our reach. This month

we run a social media campaign called support my hustle. This activity helped us show case our members bossiness online and in our club fellowships as well. Continued publishing of the monthly newsletter

The Sabula august issue was published as scheduled and we were privileged to have a number of businesses advertised in this Issue some of which belonged to our members. This magazine has also helped us foster our writing skills as members since we contribute to the content in the newsletter. All members are slotted to write in the magazine since the PR team is keeping track of those who have written and those that are yet to participate.

This month we also updated our website and made some adjustments to it. We look forward to having our website as a one stop access to everything that concerns our club. This means that we are gearing o having the public be able to donate to the club through our website, to people joining the club through application from the website and so much more. We have also made publications of our monthly newsletter on ISSUE.COM. This website has a great reach and we look forward to having people know about rotary and what rotary is about through this website. We also believe that non-Rotarians can join and participate in service projects after reading our newsletter that is published on this website.

Uniform Fridays

Uniform Friday is a public relations initiative to hell us promote Rotary and Rotaract at our places of work and in our communities. This sees us explaining questions to the public like what is rotary, what is the benefit of joining rotary, what do you do in rotary and this has helped us to enlighten people about Rotaract and rotary.
