The Role of Insurance in community development

Week 4

25th OCT 2021

Memorial fellowship

ADRR Rwoth Bitimu Calvin. O: The fellowship was led by VP Kevin

Nabukenya. ADRR began by saying that the Rotaract club of Bwebajja is a brand that stands for excellence. He continued to say that we are innovative and passionate about service right from the president and down to all club members. This being his first official visit to the club, he gave his evaluation of the club in terms of membership, community service projects, Professional and Leadership Development, reporting and Rotary Foundation giving. The details of his address are highlighted below in the section of ADRR’s visit in this report. Ms: Nansambu Coasta: We were privileged to invite an insurance expert from Prudential Assurance Uganda who shared with us how we can secure ourselves and the lives of our children financially by acquiring insurance policies. She explained that the policies are custom tailored to the individual acquiring them and thus there shouldn't be any excuse for one not to acquire an insurance policy. This ensures that the people you will leave behind will be cared for financially even after you are no more. She further encouraged us to consider saving some little money now in order to achieve our lifelong dreams. She added that Insurance sector provides capital into productive investment which helps to mitigate loss, financial stability and promotes trade and commerce activities that result into economic growth and development. Thus, insurance plays a crucial role in sustainable growth of an economy in the communities we live in. Eulogizing Rtr. Yoweri Ninsiima: Following the death of our Immediate Past President Ninsiima in a car accident, we organized a joint fellowship with sponsoring club i.e., the Rotary club of Bwebajja. This was held in celebration of the great life and legacy of the deceased. This fellowship was led by CMP JB Ssengooba alongside CMP Micheal and was attended by many Rotaractors, Rotarians and guests from both D9213 and D9214. The fellowship was also graced by district and country officials including DG, DGE, DGN, DRR, DRRE and so much more. Rotaract District 9214 secretary Prudence shared with the mourners the late Yoweri’s C.V and great activities he had done both in his rotary and non-rotary life. Members were given an opportunity to share experiences they had with the deceased and this was concluded by remarks from DG Young Kimaro. In

2. Has the ADRR paid an official visit during club fellowship? (Answer Yes/No)

Yes, the visit was held on Tuesday 12th October 2021 online. This was his first official visit to the club. 3. What did he talk about?

He sighted that we have carried out a number of projects but unfortunately, they hadn’t been reported on the Rotary show case. He advised that such an avenue is a great platform to support our brilliant ideas in attempt to execute great projects by attracting more donor funding. He commended us for increasing our numbers as this broadens money collection which can help us do bigger projects. He further applauded us for member retention and adding value to our members especially those who had visited the learning centre. Members who hadn't visited the learning centre to do so were however encouraged to do so. He continued to say that we have the most functional buddy groups and that this means we have a bond and understand each other thus building and strengthening teamwork. He further noted that he proudly associates with Rotaract Bwebajja for the great professionalism they show as this is evidenced by having 2 members representing at the district level yet the club is only 3 years old.

He commended the club members for contributing the Rotary Foundation and the money should be remitted to the bank. The club was advised not to get tired of giving and make sure they meet their target before the year ends. The club administration was tasked to carry out a membership satisfaction survey at least for the 1st quarter to ascertain from members if they concur with how the club is running and how they would recommend it to do better. He also observed that the club is having a balance between the formal and informal fellowships e.g., the home hospitality and the planned poolside fellowship. He encouraged us to have 2 formal and 2 informal fellowships so that members can destress from their serious work life. He finally encouraged all members to go to ARUSHA for the 97th DCA as the chair is from our club.
