About JB Caring Hearts: JB Caring Hearts International is a charity non-profit organization established in Uganda in 2018. Our Vision is to create a sustainable, healthy, literate and self-reliant generation in Africa. We aid the improvement of lives of women and children and believe that this will bring a long lasting positive change to the lives of challenged school-going children, and youth that are at risk of not gaining an education intended to improve their lives. We provide sustainable holistic care ranging from affordable Health care, wellbeing to livelihoods, Women Empowerment and Emancipation through Community Support Services. We pride in supporting the education of the less privileged youths of our society. We reach out to them by creating safe spaces where they can access educational materials to enhance continuity in their academic journeys. We deliver core packages that combine evidence-based
approaches in line with the Gender, Health, and Education ministries to address the fundamental drivers that may increase or trigger challenges faced by women and children such as gender-based violence, gender inequality, lack of access to education, poverty and Violation of Children’s Rights. The organization works to improve the lives of women and children in Africa. We are currently offering services in Uganda, Malawi and Zambia by providing Education, Health care, and Sanitation Skills as well as Skill Development. We believe in building a brighter future by investing in the youth, vulnerable people and their communities. We are committed to empowering the future generation of Africa. History of the Annual Youth Camp: 06
|
The JB Caring Hearts Annual Youth Camp affirms our firm belief that with only a little support, young people are uniquely equipped to playing critical roles in scaling learning opportunities among their peers. We date back in 2019 when our maiden camp was held at New High Tech Secondary School in 2019. Our youth camps have made real, the vision of a rich facilitative learning environment where youths can be assisted to change their mindsets and attitudes towards their lives. The previous camps have been avenues for building self-esteem, developing talents and creating deeper self-awareness for many young people in Uganda. These youths come from areas that are still wallowing in impoverishment and squalor. These are the ghettos of Kampala and surrounding slums areas. From the reports submitted, we are happy to inform you that the youths have always found a greater sense of belonging as they participated actively in the camp activities. The youth camp takes place in January every year. It has remained a fundamental event that ushers youths into a new year. It is timely since it comes at an opportune time when many young people ought to be making objective plans for furthering their academic and life journeys. The camps have remained instrumental in facilitating this youth led planning process. They are hinged on activity learning on planning and goal setting, service and self-transcendence as well as patriotism. There is also a deep appreciation of culture coupled with reorientation programmes to enable school going children focus their fresh energies on commitments towards a new school term. We are proud that the camp opportunity has also orchestrated a character of youth led objective learning and has refined the globally acclaimed millennial curiosity hailed of the youth of today. We Thank our esteemed partners for their relentless support to this program.

Introduction to the
third Edition: 08
|
We acknowledge that the year 2020 did manifest tremendous ups and downs as a result of the global Covid19 Pandemic. It hurts us to comprehend the grave gaps it has created in the education process of many young people. These uncertainties also confronted JB Caring Hearts International with many drawbacks. But against all odds, difficulties and losses, an extraordinarily committed and dedicated team has made it possible to make the 2021 Annual Youth Camp a success story. The 2021 Annual Youth Camp was the third edition of the JB Caring Hearts camps running from the 4th to the 9th day of January 2021 at the Kisubi Mapeera Secondary School. The theme of the camp was “Be Seen, Be Heard: Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development”. Participants of the camp were both school and non-school going females and males from the ages of 12 – 23; a total of 62 youth and 25 Rotaractors attended the camp making a total of 87 campers. We commend the strong commitment of the volunteering camp facilitators from esteemed partners of three Rotaract Clubs along Entebbe road namely Rotaract Bwebajja, Nkumba Stewards and Entebbe Airport. Our other esteemed partners were Zannya Africa Foundation and Lens Media Production Company. The socialization and learning activities were richly suited to give participants opportunities of developing their talents, leadership skills, self-worth as well as awareness on issues backstroking them and the global community. The youth were motivated to champion in discussions on their role in solving education access challenges that have been brought by COVID-19. The invaluable knowledge gained from this camp included sessions of self-identity, goal setting, and lessons on important, fundamental topics such as hygiene and the reproductive system; this information will be highly applicable as the youth grow up to take full responsibility of their lives as tools to further their abilities in a bid to obtain success as they advance in education. We are greatly indebted to the support from the camp’s host Kisubi Mapeera Secondary School for ensuring a safe environment where youths thrived and felt at peace. The venue was excellent at implementing the Standard operating procedures intended to curb the spread of Covid19.

2021 Camp Goals and Objectives: 2021 Camp Objective The main objective of the camp is to give youth the opportunity to learn from professionals on how to navigate their dreams so as to realize their full potential. The youth camp is directed towards providing the youth a better start of a year. This we strongly believe will give the youth a concrete head starts not only at school but also in life. The camp also enables youth to discover themselves through means of lessons, workshops, engagements and self-led activities. It is our hope that these initiatives will allow the youth to gain meaningful insights on themselves and the world and, therefore, gain clarity on how who they are as individuals. This is intended to align them with their purpose within society and life. Furthermore, an emphasis on responsible behavior and the development of Christian life skills was denoted to encourage healthy, sustainable relationships amongst themselves and within their ways of practicing their faith. Lastly, we put a strong emphasis on physical activity both in terms of knowledge and physical demonstration to teach the youth the notion that personal growth is distinctly tied to one’s health. Together, these concepts would enable the children to live educated on fundamental health and self-identity topics, gain skills of communication and analytical reasoning, and also grow their faith to ensure they continue on their path of success as they mature into strong, intelligent adults.

2. Fitness and Nutrition Every day’s program began at 5:00am in the morning with Fitness session. That adrenaline rash is what our body needs to keep its systems in check. Burn some calories, keep minds vibrant, inhale freshness and exhale stress. Exercising in the morning gives our bodies a healthy kind of fatigue and stress at the end of the day which results in deeper and better sleep. Also, morning exercises affect not only the quality of your sleep, it also helps us get longer rests. Note that an exercise is a form of stress. We commend the youth for their willingness to participate in the morning FAN activities wholeheartedly.
3. Games and Sports Every day of the camp from 3pm – 6pm the campers were given a special “Me Time”. Young people would use this time to participate in awesome recreational activities including games and sports. Staying at home more in light of the COVID-19 pandemic means youth may not get as much exercise as they need. Whether one don't have space at home inside or outside, the camp gave them the solution. They got plenty of room to exercise and play. They had the opportunity to participate in games such as; soccer, basketball, net balls, Volley Ball and so much more.

4. Cultural Night In addition to its intrinsic value, culture provides important social and economic benefits. With improved learning and health, increased tolerance, and opportunities to come together with others, culture enhances our quality of life and increases overall well-being for both individuals and communities. As part of this year's Annual Youth Camp, we decided to introduce a cultural Night. The young people in unique ways exhibited their knowledge and skills about their cultural backgrounds through various cultural presentations. Cultural dances, chants among others were at the peak of the presentation. It also gave an opportunity to people of different cultures appreciating the others, this generates respect for personality.

5. Rotaract Fellowship As the Annual Youth Camp continues, we took off time to introduce the participants to the amazing work Rotaract is doing in our communities. A fellowship organized by Rotaractors on the Entebbe corridor was undertaken to provide a
platform for the youths to learn and take the bold step of joining the world of service. we thank all the Rotaractors who were present to give invaluable information on what Rotary and Rotaract is all about.

6. An Evening with Camp Fire Like every year, the last night of the camp is given to the youth to enjoy meaningful conversations at camp fire. Once the day time activities end the focus is on quiet personal time, but we’re also plan a big communal campfire and some gentle evening entertainment. Our 2021 Campfire Sessions was lined up with a mix of captivating storytellers, relaxed local music and talk about health peer relationships.
7. A Ward Ceremony On Friday 8th January 2020 in the afternoon, all campers came together for what would be the last event of the camp. The award ceremony allows young people to display and showcase talents in the form of poetry, Music Dance and Drama Competition. All presentations are performed under a year’s theme determined by the organizing committee. This is when we get to see how much the youth have gained from the camp since all presentations have to be based on not only the theme but also topics that were covered during the training workshops.

Success Stories; Young People Share their Experiences:
King Shakib Ssesanga-16 Years Attending the JB Caring Hearts Annual Youth camp at Kisubi Mapeera seemed to be a remarkable experience, a thing everyone ought to do. Having been my first time to go to one, my expectations were beyond measure. I was indeed not set to disappointment as everything turned to be as expected. As a young teenager whose boundaries were only limited to the environment around my home, this was a whole new life change. In the training sessions, a lot was said by different kinds of Rotaractors who were the facilitators of this camp. One speaker talking about growth mindset, the other talking about mental health. However, setting one’s goals attracted my attention. I actually got a chance to discuss my goals before the audience. I had to think too wide beyond my knowledge, something that became a reality in my life. Amidst all this, something else that was more intriguing was to happen.
David Livingstone Akol - 19 Years The JBCH Annual Youth Empowerment camp was the beginning of the excitement my life had never been set to beginning 2021. In high spirits I was welcomed by bright smiles at the camping site which portrayed the clear picture of how educational and fan this could be. An experience, full of naturing and empowering emotionally us young people. This was a life changing honor. We were taught how tune our mindsets to follow the right paths and decision making to enlighten us through the different walks of life. Our contacts with the different facilitators especially from the Rotaractors from the Entebbe corridor with their powerful words of wisdom and knowledge made the learning sessions more intriguing, fan and most of all educative in accordance to our theme which states “Be seen, be heard, youth empowerment for a sustainable change.”

Kabugo Trevor Brian - 20 Years The 2021 annual youth camp was one of the greatest editions of the JB caring hearts projects to ever happen. The camp was full of fun, excitement, learning, interacting and lots of love, the camp set off with encouraging sessions by some of the amazing Rotaractors from Entebbe corridor for example Mr. Francis Matovu, Mr. Joseph Batter Ssengoba, Madam Eve Namwanje and many others. Our facilitators talked about various topics for example; mindset, mental development and so much more and all these topics were under the theme “Be heard be seen youth empowerment for sustainable development.” Besides the sessions and learning, I personally had fun making new friends, seeing people with various talents since the camp included various activities like the cultural night, the games and sports and so much more which made it the greatest experience of my life and I would proudly say thank you to the JB Caring Hearts, and all the sponsors and the well-wishers I can’t wait for the other edition in 2022.
Lubowa Hudu-19 Years It was my first time of attending a camp and which was the JB Caring Hearts Annual Youth Camp which gave me a lot of experiences. I will never forget in my life it was full of many excitements, fun, learning, interactions and lots of friends. Many learning sessions were carried out which included topics such as growth mindset, mental health, reproductive health, goal setting and goal planning and roles of a youth in community. Which were taught by different facilitators and we they also taught us about the theme: Be Heard, Be Seen. Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development.” These facilitators who were Rotaractors taught all these topics relating to the theme. My best well understood topics were goal setting and goal planning taught by Mr. Joseph Batter Ssengoba who taught us how to plan for the future by setting up our goals which were yearly and we drew yearly goals and we were supposed to pin them on the wall and we were supposed to look at them every day such that we only focus on them. We were also taught about our roles in serving the community where we discussed about the problems facing our community and the solutions to the problem plus the goals to be taken to set up the above solution in our companies and then we presented them in class. These has helped us a lot in our lives and other topics taught and I am so glad that I attended 2021 annual youth camp and am looking forward to attending the next edition 2022 annual youth camp.

CONCLUSION Whereas the world had been brought to bleed as a result of the pandemic, and many valuable statutes of human society and cohesion had been torn down by the inevitable calls to socially distance throughout 2020, the youth Camp 2021 will remain in memory of participating young people for reigniting the cords of connectivity and self-transcendence.
ment’ a seed of sustainability has been sowed in all the 67 participants. Embers of service beyond self-have been re-kindled by the rotarian spirit of good will. We have seen young people build new networks with peers as well as with their facilitators which can land them into opportunities for education, mentor-ship, service as well as employment in the future.
On the youth’s side, the week of 4th to 9th January 2021 ushered in a new year of hope for making and furthering their goals, their education and healthy relationships as participants in the camp. In line with this year’s theme: Be Seen, Be Heard: Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Develop-
Its these milestones that inspire our team in continuing to support young people to become the ambassadors to a future where there are equitable opportunities to quality education for children in Africa.
“
The youth camp enables youth to discover themselves through means of lessons, workshops, engagements and self-led activities.
The youth camp enables youth to discover themselves through means of lessons, workshops, engagements and self-led activities. The success of this edition depended on the tireless efforts of the committee and partners. The different activities involved for example presentations, night themes gave insights on teamwork as a key to success. We managed to crown two ambassadors that will spearhead the inspirations of the next edition of the camp. May God bless you as you continue supporting the concurrent editions of the Youth camp.
