George Washingon Carver

ATrailblazer

I made the theme of this story about DeterminationandPersistence.Here'swhy...

From the beginning of his life to the end, GeorgeWashingtonCarverhadtodealwith tragedy, loss and racism But, this was balancedoutwithgreat triumphsandsuccess. Hewasgiftedwitha brilliant mind and a spirit forged with determinationandpersistence

WhenGeorgeWashingtonCarverwasborn into slavery there was nothing in the outer worldtoindicatethatthissicklybabywould growintoanextraordinaryhumanbeing

I'm not sure what makes one person great andanotherjustmediocre Itseemsnotto be just one thing but a combination of several factors. Including the two traits I mentionedabove

In the dictionary - determination - is the quality that you show when you have decidedtodoorgoaftersomethingandnot letanythingstopyou. Persistence-iswhen youcontinuetodoorachievesomethingin spite of difficulty or delay until you reach success.

Thesetwoqualitiesalongwithhisothergifts andhisdesiretohelptheworld,Ifeellifted George Washington Carver from just being agoodmanintotherealmofgreatness

PlantWhisperer

George had many unique talents even as a young child. But, one of his gifts was his almost magical ability to understand plants and flowers. The Carvers let George spend a lot of time outdoors on their farm because he was frail and sickly. Their hope was that the fresh air, good food and healthy environment would help the boy. It did.

Each day George would spend hours outside in the woods. He studied every rock, plant, flower, insect and the animals around him. Plants and flowers fascinated him and he began to talk to them. He also like to draw them.

If he came across a sickly or dying plant, he would nurse it back to health. This ability of his was so noticeable that neighbors and others began to call him the "plant doctor."
