Walking The Cami De Cavalls For Cancer Support

This Easter a small team of walkers travelled from Mallorca to Menorca to walk the Cami de Cavalls to raise money for the Cancer Support Group.

The team, led by Anita Vince, had an amazing time. This is the second time they have come to Menorca, after having walked the GR221 in Mallorca three times in previous years.

Anita herself had cancer and the support group really helped her during that time and now that she is well again, she spends a lot of her free time thinking of ways to help raise money to keep funding the work the charity does.

This year she also started the Walk Against Cancer challenge, a virtual walk through the Sierra Tramuntana, where participants set themselves a step goal equal to the whole GR221 or a section of it and then walk those steps during the whole month of April, whenever and wherever suits them best. This launch event was amazing, so many signed up, Anita hopes to make this also a yearly event.

But what is Cancer Support Mallorca? It is a charity that was founded in Mallorca to help foreigners who are affected by cancer. They help patients as well as family members and friends, their team of volunteers cover many different languages and offer translations, transport, hospital and home visits, free counselling and nutritional advice and much more.

Some years after it was founded the group decided to expand their services to Menorca as well, at the time many patients were having to travel to Mallorca for radiotherapy where they needed support, and the group wanted to continue to offer support when the patients got back home to Menorca.
