WHAT’S ON JUNE 2023
One of the biggest complaints in Menorca is that we do not find out about events until after they have happened! Every month we try to list events that we know are happening to help you plan ahead. Of course if you hear of anything else yourself that is of interest to the readers, then please let us know - info@roquetamagazine.net

In the evening at about 8pm there is the traditional battle of hazelnuts on the Contramurada. The hazelnuts are intended to represent kisses. The Municipal Music Band plays by Calós bar.
Thursday 22 June:
Sant Joan bonfires at various points throughout the town, with music and dancing from 9pm onwards.
Friday 23 June: Eve of Sant Joan:
2pm. The Fabioler (piper) asks the Caixer Senyor for permission to start the gathering of the horses and riders, from the Caixer Senyor’s house. The Fiesta flag is handed over to the Caixer Fadrí by the wife of the Caixer Casat. The horses gather in the Plaça des Born, awaiting the arrival of the Caixer Senyor, who canters into the Born at 6pm sharp.
The whole cavalcade sets off to Sant Joan de Missa for Mass, at about 7.30pm. Meanwhile, there is another traditional battle of hazelnuts on the Contramurada.
The horses make their way back into town for the Corregudes de sa Plaça at about 10pm and the Caragol de Santa Clara, at about 11.30pm.
Saturday 24 June: The day of Sant Joan.
8am: The fabioler asks the Caixer Senyor again for permission to start the gathering of the horses and riders.
10am: the horses head down to Es Pla for the heats of the jousting games. They then return to the Born for the Corregudes a sa Plaça, carrying on to Santa Clara for the Caragol. This is followed by Mass in the Cathedral at about 2.30pm.

The jousting games take place throughout the evening, before returning to the Cathedral Square for the Corregudes a sa Plaça and the Caragol de Santa Clara by about midnight, finishing in the early hours of the morning.
