One of the first projects with MEC students was motion art, based on the art of SFAI artist Charlie Ford, whose performative actions allude to everyday life and inspire us to reconsider the world around us through the space between: stillness and action, object and body, seriousness and humor, control and failure.

Art helps us express ourselves from very deep within, I would like to take this class again with both of you.”

LTAF Beatriz Vasquez introduces her practice of Papel Picado to MEC students on their first day of the My Two Homes curriculum.

Our partnership with Root Division and the My Two Homes Project/LTAF has become part of our programming at Mission Education Center and my hope is that this project is always offered to all of our students. I can’t imagine our arts program without the My Two Homes Project/LTAF. Every school year our students participate in a year long art residency, we are matched with two amazing artists who are talented and have a passion for our community. Our students are always excited and engaged in their weekly classes. The artists have connected well with our students and they have inspired them to create beautiful pieces of art. Our students look forward to their weekly classes with the artists.
