Amanda Kloots is ‘Fit for Christmas’

You must remember this: ‘Casablanca’ returns

For Amanda Kloots, CBS is more than just “Talk” these days. The co-host of the network’s weekday program “ The Talk” has a big creative hand in “Fit for Christmas,” a new movie that airs there Sunday, Dec. 6. Also executive producer and (with screenwriter Anna White) the co-creator of the stor y, Kloots revisits her earlier career by playing a fitness instructor who opposes the redevelopment of the local community center in istletoe, Mont. She ends up in romance with the businessman (Hallmark Channel-movie veteran Paul Greene) who has designs on the property “All My Children” alum Rebecca Budig also stars for director Jessica Harmon, who’s an actress as well The 100,” “iZombie”).

“We went on hiatus (from The Talk’) in August,” Kloots explains, “and I pretty much flew a couple of days later off to ancouver to shoot the film on my hiatus, finished the movie, came back and started Season 13 ‘ The Talk.’ No rest.” Still, that was fine with Kloots, who was cited to see her idea literally come to life.

“I helped conceptualize the entire movie right up until we were filming,” she reports, “and it was amazing. There was a day on set – I’ll never forget it – when we were filming at the Mistletoe Inn, and it was so perfectly Christmas. And I looked around, and I just I couldn’t believe

it was happening. I literally pinched myself, because I remembered being in my bed in July of 2020 thinking of this idea at 3:00 in the morning, and then having it come to life, it was just so beautiful. And it just felt like magic.”

Greene worked with writer White previously (on last year’s “Christmas CEO”), but he says, “ What made this so different was working with Amanda in this way, knowing that this was her first experience in this way. It just had this crackling newness and possibility to it that was really unique. It was very inthe-moment, spontaneous and exciting.

“ There was this chemistr y and friendship between all of us actors, really,” adds Greene, “and especially between Amanda and myself, like, from the first minute. We were just like longlost friends, and that translated really quickly into a feeling of having each other’s backs in the scenes and improvising.”

Partially because of her opportunity with “Fit for Christmas,” Kloots (who lost her Broadway-actor husband Nick Cordero to COVID-19 in 2020) reflects, “I can’t believe what I’m doing right now, when I look at my life and how much has changed, especially in the last three years. I just am constantly blown away by the idea of how life can change so quickly, and how dreams can come true. ”

The miracle of “Casablanca” is that it was completed at all, given its famously torturous histor y that has made for fascinating articles and books. The final product – which Turner Classic Movies shows Tuesday, Dec. 6, as part of a tribute to composer Max Steiner – looks like a well-planned work rather than something that literally was made up as the filming went along

“ The Addams Family” (MeTV, Sunday, Dec. 4): The episode “Christmas With the Addams Family” is certain to be like no other yuletide celebration, though there’s a certain amount of tradition as the rest of the relatives rally to prove to Pugsley and Wednesday (Ken Weather wax, Lisa Loring) that yes, there really is a Santa Claus. “Four Christmases” (AMC, Sunday, Dec. 4, Wednesday, Dec. 7, and Thursday, Dec. 8): This 2008 comedy works, thanks to a familiar and energetic cast plus a basic premise that many people know well – having to make the holiday rounds to visit a number of relatives. Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon are well-matched as a San Francisco couple who will do anything to avoid seeing their dysfunctional families. When their travel plans are quashed by bad weather, others know they’re in town, so they have to do exactly what they dread. Stars also include Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Jon Voight, Mary Steenburgen, Kristin Chenoweth, Tim McGraw and Jon Favreau.

‘America’s Test Kitchen: The Next Generation’ – Competition series brings home

cooks to the next level

For those looking to raise their culinary game, “America’s Test Kitchen: The Next Generation” should be required viewing.

Premiering Friday, Dec. 9, on Amazon Freevee, the 10-episode competition series tasks 11 home cooks with creating and presenting their dishes throughout a series of culinary challenges designed to test their kitchen skills as well as their ability to present and explain what they made.

The winner of each episode, as determined by a rotating judging panel of ATK regulars Dan Souza, Julia Collin Davison, Elle Simone Scott and Jack Bishop, wins the opportunity of a lifetime–to join the ATK team, write their own cookbook and get a $100,000 prize to fund a culinary business. Or as one contestant put it, you’re winning a career Jeannie Mai Jenkins (“The Real”) is the host.

There’s lots of good foodie info here, especially pertaining to cooking techniques, and viewers of all skill levels will certainly pick up something. But what sets this show apart is the presentation skills, which Souza says is critical to being a member of the ATK team.

“At the end of the day, it’s whether someone can connect with an audience ...,” he explains. “One of the things we’re always looking for is confidence in presenting it. You know, even if the dish wasn’t perfect, we wanted to see that you were confident and you could describe it. Obviously, we’re looking at presentation right off the bat.”

And, of course, the dish has to present as enticing because as the old adage goes, you eat with your eyes first.

Through it all, the judges give their criticism, which is always diplomatic, constructive and kind. Because even if a contestant doesn’t win, Souza and his fellow judges want each home chef to come away with new skills, knowledge and confidence. Because that’s what the “America’s Test Kitchen” brand is all about.

“This is a supportive environment,” Souza says, “and we want to you to succeed, everyone’s in this together and we felt it was really important to kind of send out that message of goodwill at the start. And so I think if you’re into kind competition shows and you’ve seen ‘Great British Baking Show’ and stuff like that, you’re going to like the vibes.”

This one-hour special holiday episode titled “Sasheer Zamata, Jack Black and Kal Penn,” finds hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White taking a star-studded spin on America’s Game by welcoming the aforementioned celebrities to spin the world’s most famous Wheel and solve puzzles for a chance to win more than $1 million for the celebrities’ charity of choice. It looks like it will be a very happy holiday for some lucky charities.

Meanwhile, Millie (Bianca Kajlich) steps in to help Latika (Nida Khurshid), Ada (Demetria McKinney), and John decipher notes left behind, and they stumble upon a way to get some answers in the new episode “Reflections.”

“This Could Be the Start of Something New.” Tee missed significant time last season while filming the upcoming Prime Video series “Expats” with Nicole Kidman. During his absence, Dr. Choi recuperated from being shot and displayed residual effects upon his return, possibly setting up a cue to his exit. Tee cites increased family time and the pursuit of other acting chances reportedly are the main reasons for his departure. Marylne Barrett, Oliver Platt, Nick Gehlfuss, S. Epatha Merkerson and Steven Weber also star.

A lanky mailman with the voice of Fred Astaire explains Santa’s origins in this animated 1970 special, which sidesteps the St. Nicholas part. In this version, the future jolly old elf is a foundling adopted by the Kringles, a family of toymakers. He grows up with toys in his blood, so to speak, and feels called to give them away to the local youngsters — but mean old Burgermeister Meisterburger will have none of that.

Mountain Men

They like to call this the “bear” minimum. Mike Horstman makes a death-defying climb up and down the cliffs of Kodiak Island leading to a showdown with a rather skittish brown bear. Then, Jake Herak and his hounds turn loose on a black bear that leads them up a gauntlet of falling rock and steep terrain in the Season 11 final episode “Final Face Off.”

In what is Kelli Giddish’s last episode as Detective Amanda Rollins, you can’t deny that the character experienced a full arc over the course of her 11 seasons. And now she’s in a relationship with assistant district attorney Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino). How will Rollins exit?
