Every year the Tidewater USA Dance Chapter works very hard creating the best event possible. This is a time consuming and often difficult task. They are looking for feedback on last year’s New Year’s Eve weekend, so if you attended, please take just a few short minutes to respond via their blind survey. Richmond Showcase and Dance Challenge Mark your calendars now for July 24 & 25, when the first annual Richmond Showcase and Dance Challenge will be held at the prestigious “ACCA Shriners Ballroom” at the ACCA Shrine Center, 1712 Bellevue Avenue, Richmond, VA. Friday night, July 24, will consist of dance workshops and lots of general dancing to a live dance band. The weekend will include competitive professional and amateur dancers, dance students, social dancers, family, friends, and spectators. Saturday morning, afternoon and evening will follow the United States Showcase and Dance Challenge (USSDC) established schedule, including ending the evening with a fun-filled general dancing session to a live dance band. Local Dance News & Events *** A Time to Dance provides International Style Latin, Cha Cha and Rumba, West Coast Swing private and group classes, and Latin Dance Exercise. DanceSport VA has many group classes to offer. The studio will have Mr. Yuriy Kravets coaching students May 23-25 and Wesley Ackers coaching on May 29-June 1. Mayo Alanen is competing with other dance champions/instructors to be one of the professional dance instructor/partner in next season’s “Dancing with the Stars”. He is a finalist on the Tuesday show to get spot in next season show and the winner will be announced May 19th. Be sure to watch Mon. and Tues evenings…vote for him!!! Mayo was the prime dance star in our NYE Dance Gala this past year!

Robert Owen "Karter" Carter We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Robert Owen "Karter" Carter. He passed away peacefully after a courageous fight with cancer March 28, 2009. He was born in Annapolis, Md., to Owen Carter and the late Joy Luckadoo Carter. He was the U.S. Theater Arts Ballroom Dance champion in 1990. He was a professional dance instructor, model and actor throughout Hampton Roads for more than 30 years. He is survived by his father, Owen Carter of Virginia Beach; one sister and one brother, both of Knoxville, Tenn.; life partner of 25 years, Danny Britt of Moyock, N.C.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many loving friends. Memorial Donations may be made in Karter's honor to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.
