Rockhurst High School Makes Jesuit Education Accessible for All!

Announcing Increased Financial Aid to Meet 100% of Exhibited Financial Need

Rockhurst's education and personal formation program is a leader in Kansas City. Our advanced college-preparatory curriculum is robust with dual credit and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, STEAM departments including robotics, engineering, fine and performing arts, and computer science, and built upon our Jesuit Catholic allboys program of intellect, faith, service, and brotherhood.

Rockhurst High School proudly dives deeply into its mission of faith and excellence. You will not find a more geographically nor economically diverse private school in Kansas City than Rockhurst. Excellence enhanced with financial accessibility is a priority.

By this action we intend to meet 100% of the exhibited financial need of qualifying families so that financial circumstances are not obstacles for a Rockhurst education. Through this enhanced initiative, we want to ensure all talented and motivated young men have the opportunity to experience the transformative power of a Rockhurst High School education.

A cornerstone of our mission is to ensure access to topnotch, private, Jesuit education is not limited by a family's financial circumstance. Living our mission, this fall we boldly announce a pioneering initiative that reflects our unwavering commitment to making sure a Rockhurst High School education is within your family’s financial realm. Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, Rockhurst High School will be increasing financial assistance by 15% to $3.1M.

The application and need evaluation process has not changed, it takes into account a family's exhibited need as determined through analysis by an independent, third party agency, Financial Aid Independent Review (FAIR) in conjunction with the Rockhurst High School Financial Aid Office. If your son is accepted to Rockhurst High School based on his academic portfolio, 100% of your family’s exhibited financial needs will be met.

Our benefactors and school leadership believe in this vision. We invite prospective students and families to embark on this journey of opportunity and growth with our institutional commitment to meet 100% of your exhibited financial need.

FRESHMEN YEAR AT THE ROCK

A founding principle of Jesuit Schools is "Cura Personalis" which roughly translates to the "care of the whole person". Our Freshmen year programming is focused on the wholistic care and support of the young men entering Rockhurst. The goal is a smooth transition that promotes personal growth, academic growth, spiritual growth, and community building.

Benefits of Single Sex Education

Tailored teaching methods: Customize our teaching strategies to meet the specific learning styles and needs of male students. Boys and girls may exhibit different learning preferences, and single-sex schools can focus on instructional methods that resonate particularly well with boys, such as hands-on activities, competition, and physical movement.

Addressing gender-specific issues: All-boys schools can specifically address topics and challenges that are unique to male students. We provide an environment where boys feel comfortable discussing these issues and receive appropriate guidance and support.

Reduced distractions: All-boys high schools aim to create a more focused learning environment and allow students to concentrate better on their studies. All-boys schools offer a diverse range of academic and cocurricular opportunities, that encourages boys to pursue a variety of interests and challenge societal expectations.

Strong sense of camaraderie: The absence of girls can foster a strong sense of camaraderie and brotherhood among male students. This can create a supportive and close-knit community where boys can form lasting friendships, develop teamwork skills, and build social connections.

Nurturing self-confidence: Single-sex environments can create a safe space where boys can express themselves freely, build self-confidence, and develop their identities without feeling pressured. This can lead to increased participation in class discussions, extracurricular activities, and leadership opportunities.

Enhanced academic performance: Supporters of all-boys schools argue that the absence of girls can foster healthy competition among male students, potentially leading to higher academic achievement. Additionally, tailored teaching approaches and a more focused environment can contribute to improved engagement and academic outcomes.

Committed to Faith & Community

The foundation of a Catholic School is religious formation. But, what makes a Jesuit education different? At Jesuit schools like Rockhurst, we are part of a model that highlights the following characteristics as important:

Metropolitan - Rockhurst High School serves the greater Kansas City area by educating Ignatian leaders, “ men for others”, in the Roman Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory tradition. We serve those across the city in many different zip codes (95) and feeder schools (115). In the spirit of Saint Ignatius Loyola, its goal is the formation of the whole person within a diverse and disciplined environment.

Advocates for Faith - Our students advocate and share their faith beyond the walls of Rockhurst. Our students participate in activities like the March for Life, the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, Community Service, and Total Ignatian Experiences (TIE) to promote our Catholic values to the outside world.

Spiritually Guided - With a robust, four-year, Ignatian retreat program, Rockhurst focuses on guiding students through his spiritual growth during the formative years in a student's spiritual life. Many of our retreat programs are led by students, especially our Freshman Retreat, which is led and run by more than 150 upperclassmen. Rockhurst offers daily Mass and weekly Reconciliation and adoration. Monthly, students meet for class Masses in the Rose Theater, and our whole student body meets throughout the year on Holy Days of Obligation for regular all-school Masses

Did you know?

Rockhurst offers four "Total Ignatian Experience" (TIE) trips to students each year to experience serving communities in need. Service trips take place in Mexico; Guatemala; The Appalachian Mountain region of Tennessee; and at the Jerusalem Farm located in Historic Northeast Kansas City.

Designed for the Future:

What does it mean in an ever changing world to be prepared for your future? At Rockhurst High School we are dedicated to forming young men who can adapt, problem solve, and respond to their own future path. We do this through a variety of academic and co-curricular offerings that provide our students various paths to a successful and fulfilling future.

Committed to Faith in What's Next

The community of Rockhurst High School has great hopes for the young men who graduate from our school. Saint Ignatius challenged us to do better-than-average work and to lead and serve others Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, for the greater glory of God.

When young men leave Rockhurst High School, their growth is not complete. However, the Ignatian tradition and community help them mature and grow more confident in themselves and in their ability to positively affect their community.

Life will hold many challenges for our graduates. It is our job to prepare them with the intellect, spiritual awareness, and physical strength to deal with them in their own lives, and to help others do the same. These five characteristics, known as the Graduate @ Graduation (Grad @ Grad), define our ideal graduate, a young man equipped to continue the mission of Saint Ignatius.
