OUR MISSION

Rockhurst High School serves the greater Kansas City area by educating Ignatian leaders, “men for others”, in the Roman Catholic, Jesuit college preparatory tradition.

In the spirit of Saint Ignatius Loyola, its goal is the formation of the whole person within a diverse and disciplined environment, as one who is open to growth, strives for academic excellence, is religious, loving, and committed to justice through service.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE TO BUILD COLLEGEREADY MEN

Rockhurst is Kansas City’s Premier, All-Boys, CollegePreparatory High School.

At Rockhurst High School, our education and personal formation program is unlike anything you’ll find in the city. We build academic excellence upon our Catholic, Jesuit foundation of intellect, faith, service, and brotherhood.

Boys from all geographic and economic backgrounds have found a home that will form them into men who succeed and thrive into their futures.

Our advanced, college-preparatory curriculum is robust with dual credit and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. We are the first STEMaccredited high school in the area, offering exceptional curriculum in robotics, engineering, fine and performing arts, and computer science.

99%

OF ROCKHURST GRADUATES GO ON TO A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY.

A cornerstone of our mission is to ensure access to topnotch, private, Jesuit education is not limited by a family’s financial circumstance. Living our mission, we have an unwavering commitment to making sure a Rockhurst High School education is within your family’s financial realm.

As of 2024, we will meet 100% of the exhibited financial need of qualifying families so that financial circumstances are not obstacles for a Rockhurst education. Through this enhanced initiative, we want to ensure all talented and motivated young men have the opportunity to experience the transformative power of a Rockhurst High School education.

The application and need evaluation process have not changed. It takes into account a family’s exhibited need as determined through analysis by an independent, third party agency, Financial Aid Independent Review (FAIR), in conjunction with the Rockhurst High School Financial Aid Office.

If your son is accepted to Rockhurst High School based on his academic portfolio, 100% of your family’s exhibited financial need will be met.

FRESHMAN YEAR

A founding principle of Jesuit Schools is Cura Personalis which translates to the “care of the whole person”. Our freshman-year programming is focused on the holistic care and support of the young men entering Rockhurst. The goal is a smooth transition that promotes personal actualization, academic excellence, spiritual growth, and community building.

01

FRESHMAN CURA PROGRAM

This year-long program is intended to address the expectations Rockhurst has for its freshmen and to connect each member of the class to all the various resources our community offers, from the social, personal, academic, and spiritual domains within our community. Freshman small groups will be visited by counselors, take part in social activities, work to complete their Camino Portfolio project for freshman year and meet with the Dean’s Office in Freshman Seminar. Occasionally, all-class events like Masses or the annual Freshman Club Fair will occur.

FRESHMAN CLUB FAIR

With 60 clubs and organizations offered at Rockhurst, the Freshman Club Fair provides an opportunity for students to decide which clubs, organizations, and activities are of interest.

CAMINO IGNACIANO PROJECT

The Camino Ignaciano Project is a four-year portfolio, showcasing each student’s triumphs within the framework of the Rockhurst goals for students at graduation.

FRESHMAN RETREAT

Planned, led, and delivered by more than 150 upperclassmen, the Freshman Retreat is all about growing deeper spiritually and in the brotherhood of Rockhurst.

Building future success through an all-boys education

Beyond building a lifelong brotherhood and tight-knit friendships, an all-boys education has many other positive benefits that will build your son into a whole man.

TAILORED TEACHING METHODS

Customized teaching strategies meet the specific learning styles and needs of male students. We focus on instructional methods that resonate particularly well with boys, such as hands-on activities, healthy competition, and physical movement.

ADDRESSING MALE-SPECIFIC ISSUES

As an all-boys school, we can address topics and challenges that are unique to male students. We provide an environment where boys feel comfortable discussing and receiving support for such issues.

REDUCED DISTRACTIONS

All-boys high schools aim to create a more focused learning environment and allow students to concentrate better on their studies.

NURTURING SELF-CONFIDENCE

As an all-boys school, Rockhurst High School creates a safe space for boys to express themselves freely, build self-confidence, and develop their identities without feeling pressured. This environment can lead to increased involvement in class and co-curricular activities.

ENHANCED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

For all-boys schools, research shows the absence of girls can foster healthy competition among male students, leading to higher academic achievement. Additionally, tailored-teaching approaches and a more focused environment contributes to improved engagement and academic outcomes.

The foundation of a Catholic school is religious formation, and at Jesuit schools like Rockhurst, we are part of a model that highlights the following important characteristics:

METROPOLITAN

We serve the greater Kansas City area by educating Ignatian leaders, “men for others”, in the Roman Catholic, college preparatory tradition with the goal of creating a “whole person”, a man fully alive, within a diverse and disciplined environment.

ADVOCATES FOR FAITH

Our students participate in community service and activities like the March for Life and the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice to promote our Catholic values to the outside world.

SPIRITUALLY GUIDED

Rockhurst focuses on guiding students through spiritual growth during the formative years in a student’s spiritual life. Rockhurst offers daily Mass and weekly Reconciliation and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, as well as periodic all-class and all-school Masses.
