THE GRADUATE @ GRADUATION

The community of Rockhurst High School has great hopes for the young men who graduate from our school. Saint Ignatius challenged us to do betterthan-average work and to lead and serve others Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, for the greater glory of God.

Open to Growth With Sapientia in Christo ("Wisdom in Christ"), a graduate has begun to stretch his mind, imagination, feelings, and religious consciousness, and he understands the need for continual growth.

When young men leave Rockhurst High School, their growth is not complete. However, the Ignatian tradition and community help them mature and grow more confident in themselves and in their ability to positively affect their community. Life will hold many challenges for our graduates. It is our job to prepare them with the intellect, spiritual awareness, and physical strength to deal with them in their own lives, and to help others do the same. These five characteristics define our ideal graduate, a young man equipped to continue the mission of St. Ignatius.

Intellectually Competent A Rockhurst graduate exhibits a mastery of the fundamental academic requirements for higher education, as well as the interdisciplinary skills and understandings that go beyond what is required. He also sees the need for intellectual integrity and integrating spiritual values with all aspects of his life. Religious A graduate understands the major doctrines and practices of the Catholic Church and will have examined his own religious beliefs in order to choose a fundamental orientation toward God and establish a relationship with a religious tradition and/or community. Loving By graduation, a Rockhurst student is well on his way to establishing his own identity. He is prepared to move beyond self-interest or self-centeredness in relationships with God and other people, risk deeper involvement in relationships, accept the mystery of another person, and cherish that person. Committed to Doing Justice A Rockhurst graduate has achieved considerable knowledge of the many needs of local and wider communities and is preparing to take a place in these communities as a competent, concerned, and responsible member.

AFFORDABILITY AT THE ROCK At Rockhurst, we never want finances to impede a student’s desire to be a part of our Brotherhood. Rockhurst uses FAIR, a third-party company, to conduct a thorough and fair assessment of a family’s need. During the process, we look at income (both taxable and non-taxable) as we take into account assets, expenses, liabilities, and the number of children attending Catholic (or tuition-based) schools (K-12). We ask and encourage families to bring any special circumstances to our attention, recognizing that each case is unique and wanting to offer assistance in ways that best fit each family's needs. The typical need-based awards range from $1,000 to $10,000 with the median award for families being $4,150. All students awarded aid are required to participate in the work grant program.
