Dear Jazz Fest Lovers, Welcome to the 16th Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival! Set in the center of beautiful Downtown Rochester, you are in the company of more than 200,000 visitors who will enjoy nine music-filled days filled with 325 concerts — with a record 95 free shows thanks to City support and sponsorship.

This year’s incredible lineup features more than 1,500 outstanding artists from around the world. And let’s not forget to applaud the many volunteers, crew and staff as well as corporate sponsors who make this sensational event a great success.

This Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival brings people from throughout the region and far beyond together to share in a common love of music, creating a dynamic camaraderie and positive energy filling our Downtown with good vibes and special vibrancy.

To ensure that everyone can enjoy the festival, the City of Rochester supports the festival’s free stages.

You won’t want to miss “The Hooligans,” the backing band for Bruno Mars on the final night of festival at the City of Rochester Midtown Outdoor Stage on Parcel 5.

The Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival continues to expand not only in terms of performances and artists but also in venues and size. It has now grown to accommodate almost 200,000 jazz enthusiasts and provides an excellent opportunity for our community to celebrate its rich cultural heritage and proud jazz tradition. Each year the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival has a tremendous impact on our local economy, tourism and quality of life. The daughter of a European composer and a Great American Songbook singer, native New Yorker Roberta Piket is a pianist who loves to swing while exploring the more adventurous harmonic possibilities of jazz and improvised music. The melding of different musical worlds in her youth resulted in Roberta's unique musical sensibilities and interests. Her numerous recordings reveal an artist equally at home playing standards (Solo, Emanation), free improvising (Poltva, Op Der Schmelz), and composing and arranging her own music (Sides, Colors; Live at the Blue Note). For Roberta, there are no genre boundaries, only the opportunity to make exceptional music!

Huntertones is a high-energy horn-driven group founded in Columbus, OH and currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Their signature sound is a marriage of inspired improvisation and adventurous compositions that meld jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop, R&B, and rock. The band met at The Ohio State University and got their start playing house shows at their Hunter Avenue apartment. In addition to covering a wide range of genres, they're known for the ability to shift from a dynamic six-piece ensemble to an unconventional trio featuring saxophone, sousaphone, and beat-boxing.

The band started 2016 with a month-long tour of North America, South America, and Africa through the American Music Abroad program. They were selected by the U.S. Department of State and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to engage international audiences, students, and artists from around the globe. In September, Huntertones released their second album, 'Live.' This record captures the band in its element, performing genre-bending music while feeding on the energy of a hometown crowd.

Proving that soul music can be exponentially greater than the sum of its parts, The Nth Power is on a mission to share the light. Formed during an impromptu late-night jam at Jazz Fest 2012 in New Orleans, the relentlessly funky and soulful band believes in music as a higher power tapping into an energy that is simultaneously sexy and spiritual, with songs that will inspire audiences to dance, groove, make love or just stand there with goose bumps.

The quartet hails from diverse musical backgrounds, races and creeds. Female powerhouse Nikki Glaspie was Beyonce's world-touring drummer for five years before she joined Ivan Nevilles New Orleans funk outfit, Dumpstaphunk. Bassist Nate Edgar of Groovechild and John Browns Body perfectly complements Singer and Guitarist Nick Cassarino who came from the Jennifer Hartswick Band and toured with Big Daddy Kane. Finally rounding out the ensemble is the newest and youngest member, Courtney J Mell Smith, who brings his soulful vocals and keyboard abilities to the table. The Nth Powers 2013 independent EP, Basic Minimum Skills Test, showcases a first glimpse of the spark shared among the group, delivering gospel-style vocals with soul, jazz, funk and world-beat riffs in nearly mathematical fashion.

When the Quebe (rhymes with "maybe") Sisters from Texas take a stage, and the triple-threat fiddle champions start playing and singing in multi-part close harmony, audiences are usually transfixed, then blown away. It's partly because the trio's vocal and instrumental performances are authentic all-Americana, all the time, respectful of the artists that inspired them the most. And whether the Quebes are decked out in denims and boots or fashionably dressed to the nines in makeup, skirts and heels, the fresh-faced, clean-cut sisters, all in their 20s, look as good as they sound. Not surprisingly, the Quebe Sisters win standing ovations at just about every show. It's been that way since 2000, when they started fiddling together as pre-teens. "One thing is for sure, you don't see a group like The Quebe Sisters come along every day," famed Opry announcer Eddie Stubbs told listeners on his own show on Nashville's WSM. "Give them your undivided attention, and if you're not already, you too, will become a fan."

Bill Dobbins teaches courses in jazz composing and arranging, gives applied lessons to jazz writing majors, and directs the Eastman Jazz Ensemble and the Eastman Studio Orchestra. As a pianist, he has performed with classical orchestras and chamber ensembles under the direction of Pierre Boulez, Lukas Foss, and Louis Lane, and has performed and recorded with such jazz artists as Clark Terry, Al Cohn, Red Mitchell, Phil Woods, Bill Goodwin, Dave Liebman, Kevin Mahogany, Paquito D'Rivera, Peter Erskine, and John Goldsby. He was a prizewinner in the 1972 International Gaudeamus Competition for interpreters of contemporary music, and has been the recipient of several jazz composition grants from the Ohio Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. He joined the Eastman faculty in 1973, and was instrumental in designing both the graduate and undergraduate curricula for Eastman's jazz studies program. Many of his students have been heard in the big bands of Count Basie, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Chuck Mangione, and Maria Schneider, have become successful in the Los Angeles television and film music industry, and are on the faculties of jazz programs in many of the world's leading music schools.

Billy Childs has emerged as one of the foremost American composers of his era, perhaps the most distinctly American composer since Aaron Copland – for like Copland, he has successfully married the musical products of his heritage with the Western neoclassical traditions of the twentieth century in a powerful symbiosis of style, range, and dynamism. A native of Los Angeles, Childs grew up immersed in jazz, classical, and popular music influences. A prodigious talent at the piano earned him public performances by age six, and at 16 he was admitted to the USC Community School of the Performing Arts, going on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition under the tutelage of Robert Linn and Morton Lauridsen.

Igor Butman, saxophone virtuoso, bandleader, club owner and television host, is Russia's number one jazz personality. Born in 1961 in Leningrad (St.Petersburg), Igor began playing clarinet at age 11. In 1976 he entered the RimskyKorsakov College of Music, where during his second year he dropped the classical clarinet for jazz saxophone. Besides being taught by the remarkable musician and brilliant teacher Gennady Goldstein, he took unofficial lessons from nightly broadcasts of jazz from 11:15 p.m. to midnight on Voice of America.

In 1983, Igor Butman played in Oleg Lundstrem`s big band – the leading big band in the USSR. The following year he was invited by Nick Levinovsky to join the #1 Russian jazz group "Allegro" and played with them for three years. In the Soviet Union, a country of over 300 million people, Igor was known as the best tenor saxophonist, placing first in the Soviet Critics' Polls and recording many albums for Melodiya.

Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet was established in 2005. The ensemble's insistently inventive program of traditional Afro-Peruvian music transformed by Gabriel’s highly personal synthesis of folkloric Afro-Peruvian rhythms, jazz, and other musical strains has led to a signature accomplishment: developing the band's patented blend of deep scholarship and playfulness into a touring experience that conveys a vast knowledge of the music and, perhaps more importantly, transmits black music from coastal Perú as a way of life to its audiences. Each member of the Sextet is not only a master musician but also a dedicated and experienced educator. During more than ten years on the road together, the mission of the band has incessantly been to spread the joy and love of Afro-Peruvian music around the world. This has happened both on the stage and through workshops, master classes, after-hour hangs and even cooking (as food and music are inseparable in Afro-Peruvian musical culture, the band is never shy to demonstrate)! As trumpet master Bobby Shew once commented "hanging out with these people is a chapter in your life!"

Born in 1983 in the Faroe Islands, Eivør early musical forays were steeped in Faroese musical traditions. At the age of 16 she released her self-titled debut album bearing the marks of this fruitful starting point. While an enduring love of Faroese culture remains at the heart of her work, its expression has been widened through profound interaction with other traditions.

Eivør's musical palette has broadened since her folk beginnings as her albums and performances variably have included jazz, country folk, big band stylings, classical influences, and trip hop tinted rock. As of late, she has consolidated these experimental inputs into her own style of folktronica with heartfelt lyrical observations of life as it unfolds. Her music covers a wide musical and emotional range, with themes of love, loss, memory, freedom and nature. She remains a voice unique in its intimacy, its effortless virtuosity and range of colors, evident from her first recording all the way through to her ninth album Bridges (2015). And as always, she is a riveting live performer with a vivacious and warm stage presence.

It's the fall of 1963 and Maceo Parker is standing out back of the Coliseum in Greensboro' North Carolina trying to catch a glimpse of his idol, Ray Charles. He's looking for anyone he would recognize from the band but all he sees is strangers. Out of the corner of his eye he sees the flare of a lighter. Instantly Maceo recognizes Hank Crawford, the epitome of cool in his leather jacket and matching boots. It is nearly midnight but Crawford still has his sunglasses on. The back door of the Coliseum opens and the rest of the band spill out. Then Ray Charles emerges and in an awestruck moment the young saxophonist makes a promise to himself and a silent one to Ray Charles: "one of these days you're all gonna know me." Ray Charles was an undeniable influence on the young saxophonist from NC, who went onto include a Ray Charles song on each album of his hugely successful solo period which started in 1990 and continues to this day.

Maceo performed a tribute to Ray Charles with the Ray Charles Orchestra and the Raelettes on August 17th at the Hollywood Bowl as part of Hollywood Bowl's 2016 season. Steve Sigmund, first trombonist with Ray Charles for over 20 years said “Maceo is the right person to pay tribute to Ray in a genuine way that Ray would have enjoyed. The fact that he insists on wanting to work with Ray's musicians and backup singers only solidifies that he would like to present this music with and in the spirit that it was taught to us and performed by Ray. We think the songs that we've selected are a great representation of Ray Charles' biggest hits and the tunes that he liked to sing on a regular basis."

The Zion Hill Mass Choir, under the leadership and direction of Mr. Paul C. Boutte and Rev. Alvin Simpson, is a combination of members from the Music Ministries (Angels Choir, Early Morning Choir, Male Chorus, Praise Team, Senior Choir, Voices Of Zion, Youth for Christ) of the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Rochester, NY. The Choir is very active in the life of the church and now sings weekly at the 11AM service except for the second Sunday of each month. In addition to these regular duties, the Zion Hill Mass Choir sings in the Greater Rochester Area at concerts and special services of local churches. In 2013, the Zion Hill Mass Choir released their initial record entitled "HE LIVES." The project is set up as worship experience in the Baptist tradition.

Shabaka Hutchings, a saxophonist, band leader and composer, part of London's community of younger jazz musicians as well as the city's thriving improvised music scene. For Hutchings, composition is a chronicle of the zeitgeist inhabited by a composer; an exposition of his or her search for meaning and the structuring of experiences in aid of recognizing this meaning when it appears. As part of the Caribbean diaspora, he sees his role as that of pushing the boundaries of what musical elements are considered to be Caribbean. Constantly evaluating the nature of his relationship with musical material and tradition, he describes his attempts at composition as wrestling matches with questions of where and how the Caribbean can be encoded, and what happens when it is exposed to the western classical music cannon.

Kristian's diverse musical background is reflected in the wide array of music he composes, uniting ethnic music with new compositional techniques.

Born in the Danish peninsula of Jutland in 1947, Kristian relocated to the Faroe Islands in '74, where he's lived ever since, and where he's written most his works. Kristian has composed solo instrumental works, chamber music choral works as well as symphonic music, such as the ballet Harra Pætur og Elinborg. Having made numerous recordings as a performer, Kristian has also toured the globe widely with his own jazz and folk music ensembles. In addition to this, Kristian works as manager and CEO of the Tutl Records label and is artistic director of the popular Summartónar festival. Kristian Blak is widely regarded as one of the most prominent and important figures of Faroese music history, playing a central role in the musical life and culture of the islands.

Soft-spoken and self-effacing in conversation, he apparently breathes in lungfuls of raw fire when he straps on his (guitar)...His music is not what is typically called jazz, though it turns on improvisation; it's not rock'n roll; and it sure isn’t that tired dinosaur called fusion. In one of the biggest leaps of imagination since the Yardbirds and Jimi Hendrix, Frisell coaxes and slams his hovering split-toned ax into shapes of things to come...But besides being a guitar genius, he's turned into a terrific songwriter. Like Monk, Frisell's harmonic and melodic ideas form a succinct, seamless mesh with outer sonic and rhythmic ideas about his ax." - Spin Thomas Morgan was born in Hayward, California, in 1981 and began studying the cello at the age of seven. He continued until the age of 14, when his attention turned to the double bass.

In 2003 Morgan completed a bachelor of music at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Harvie S and Garry Dial. He has also studied with Ray Brown and Peter Herbert.

Thomas has recorded and played concerts in New York and abroad with a long list of renowned artists.

an all-night session the album magically conjures anew a centuries-old ancient African musical heritage, interpreting kora compositions (21 string harp) on solo guitar, a feat which classical guitar legend John Williams said he thought was "absolutely impossible until I heard Derek Gripper do it." When Kora maestro Toumani Diabate heard these recordings, he asked his producer Lucy Duran to confirm that she had seen one person play this music on just one guitar.

He immediately invited Derek to collaborate with him in Mali, an invitation which saw Derek performing at the Acoustik Festival Bamako in early 2016, the first international festival held in Mali since 2012. The UK's top world music publication, Songlines, called One Night on Earth "a staggering achievement," and selected the recording as a Top of the World album in 2013.

Derek's "guitar has found the Kora-playing spirit, he captures the magic bound up in the way it is played," says Williams, who invited Derek back a second time to collaborate in "The John Williams Series" at London's Globe Theatre in June 2015 where the two musicians performed duets based on Diabate's kora works.

He performed and recorded with Latin-jazz artist Ray Barretto from 1994 through 2002 (with whom he received two Grammy nominations). The trio comprised of Kolker, Russ Lossing and John Hebert, and performing music based on Bela Bartoks Mikrokosmos -- just released their first CD, Change of Time, on OmniTone Records. It also received critical acclaim, including four and a half stars in Downbeat Magazine. Meditacions, also on Satchmo, received the award for "Best Modern Jazz CD" from the Catalan Jazz Society in 2002. Adam is also a professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Fred Costello, born in Syracuse, New York, is a multi-talented musician with a varied career including national radio and TV appearances and numerous recording sessions for which he has either played or written. He has appeared in Las Vegas, Hollywood, Canada, Bahamas and Mexico and has been featured as jazz organist in numerous Jazz Festivals. Fred began his career as a jazz accordionist before switching to organ. Fred has been featured as organist on NBC’s Game of the Week and appeared in Newsweek Magazine. Fred has turned down five major league teams as organist including the Yankees and Mets. Besides his music appearances, Fred heads up Costello Music, a teaching studio and band instrument rental service.

German-born drummer Jochen Rueckert presents his working quartet with guitarist Lage Lund, bassist Orlando LeFleming and legendary saxophonist Mark Turner. His New York City based group Jochen's original compositions containing surprisingly more optimistically swinging sections rich with chords than one would expect from a Teutonic drummer, sprinkled with the occasional 3/8 bar for good measure.

Jochen's deliberate avoidance of formal music education provides a great lack of erudite nonsense in his writing. Jochen’s fourth album, "Charm Offensive" (Pirouet records) was released in 2016. His band has been touring for over seven years, reaching great depths of musical interaction. Jochen is mostly known for his work in 12 years of the Marc Copland trio, the mid-2000 Kurt Rosenwinkel New Quartet, all of Nils Wogram's Root 70, recent work with the Melissa Aldana trio,his electronic music programmed under the alias "Wolff Parkinson White" as well as his series of e-books aptly titled "Read the Rueckert - travel observations and pictures of hotel rooms."

Beulah is also a White family nickname. "It's a term of endearment around our house," White explains, "like you would call someone 'Honey.' My dad used to call my little sister Beulah, and I call my daughter Beulah.

It's something I've always been around. Beulah is also something much loftier. For the poet and painter William Blake, Beulah was a place deep in the collective spiritual unconscious.

Zero to 60 is Jae's 14th recording as a leader and marks his return to straight up jazz featured in the classic jazz quartet setting – tenor saxophone, acoustic piano, acoustic bass and drums. Zero to 60 also showcases the growth of the composer with nine original compositions by Jae and one classic standard, Never Let Me Go. The musicians joining Jae for this session are saxophonist Ralph Bowen, pianist Allen Farnham and bassist Hans Glawischnig. Each is an accomplished band leader, in-demand sideman, and all are tremendously respected by their contemporaries. They are the perfect complement to Jae's swinging, musically soulful, rhythmically hip-shifting drumming.

Multiple Grammy nominee and Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellow Miguel Zenón represents a select group of musicians who have masterfully balanced and blended the often-contradictory poles of innovation and tradition. Widely considered as one of the most groundbreaking and influential saxophonists of his generation, he has also developed a unique voice as a composer and as a conceptualist, concentrating his efforts on perfecting a fine mix between Latin American Folkloric Music and Jazz. His latest release, Típico (Miel Music, 2017) celebrates the Miguel Zenón Quartet, his working band of more than 15 years, which includes Venezuelan pianist Luis Perdomo, Austrian bassist Hans Glawischnig and fellow Puerto Rican drummer Henry Cole. The album features original music by Zenón, which was specifically written for the members of the Quartet and directly inspired by their individual playing and personalities. The result is a testament to the band's unique chemistry and their outstanding collective musicianship.

Vince Ercolamento has been playing, performing, and teaching saxophone for over 35 years.

Immediately after high school he began composing and arranging with a band. In 1978 Vince attended Nazareth college of Rochester where he received a degree in music performance for saxophone and flute. Once he graduated from college he started touring with a band. Vince has played with many established artist. Some include, The Rascals, The Stylistics, Impressions, Bo Diddly, Cornell Dupree, and Foreigner. Vince has performed at the Lionel Hampton jazz club in Paris France. He has been a solo artist at the Rochester International Jazz Festival. His recordings are numerous. Vince has two of his own recordings. His first "Delightful Eyes," which features pianist Harold Danko was released in 2002. His newest release is entitled "Inner Soul.” Vince also is on two recordings by the band Prime Time Funk, where he was a composer and arranger. He has done many commercial recordings which include two movie scores and a HBO special. Vince has also enjoyed teaching many students at all levels. His passion and dedication for music keeps him in demand and on the edge of new music

Chicago has long been a major jazz cradle. Ever since pioneers such as Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and King Oliver planted seeds of the music in 1917, the Windy City has birthed numerous jazz titans of various stylistic idioms, ranging from such swing stalwarts as Benny Goodman and Bud Freedman to such modernists as Muhal Richard Abrams, Jack DeJohnette and Herbie Hancock. You can now add 29-year-old Marquis Hill to the list. The New York Times described him as a "dauntingly skilled trumpeter," and the Chicago Tribune asserts that "his music crystallizes the hard-hitting, hard-swinging spirit of Chicago jazz." Lera Lynn juggles multiple roles on Resistor, an album that finds the Nashville transplant embellishing her Americana roots with a mix of spacey, left-of-center rock and experimental pop-noire. Following the 2014 release of her critically-acclaimed sophomore release, The Avenues, Lynn spent 2015 in a creative whirlwind, kicking off the year with an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman and, months later, wrapping things up with a 39-date headlining fall tour. Along the way, she also played a role in shaping the dark direction of True Detective's second season, both appearing in the popular HBO series as a barroom singer and contributing a handful of original songs to the show's soundtrack. The response was overwhelming. True Detective's teaser trailer, which featured a clip of Lynn's "The Only Thing Worth Fighting For" (co-written with Rosanne Cash and T Bone Burnett), racked up more than 35 million views in a matter of months, giving Lynn the assurance that a wide audience did, indeed, exist for her brand of otherworldly music.

New Breed Brass Band lives and breathes the culture of New Orleans, infusing funk, rock, jazz, and hip-hop into a custom-made enhancement of second-line brass band tradition. "That's what we came up under," says snare-drummer Jenard Andrews of second line bands like the ReBirth, Dirty Dozen and Lil' Rascals Brass Bands. "Now we're trying to take that sound and bring in some new stuff and expand it. We bring outside influences like Earth Wind & Fire and Brass Construction, trying to interpret a different song for every genre, and make it all our own sound."

With a founding core of five New Orleans natives, New Breed Brass Band made its street debut as a nine-man unit in November 2013 at the Nine Times Second Line. Since then, they have showcased their originality opening for such diverse bands as The Fray, Red Baraat, Dr. John, The Waterboys, and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, as well as competing in the Red Bull Street Kings brass band competition in 2013.

During any given performance, Alexander applies those aesthetics to repertoire spanning a broad range of jazz and Jamaican musical expression-the American songbook and the blues, gospel and bebop, calypso and reggae. With 24 solo albums, Grammy nods, and countless collaborations and tours, Evans has continued to explore a dazzling variety of adventurous musical settings as a pioneering bandleader, consistently winning fans in the worldwide arena.

Recent highlights include touring and/or performing with his own Bill Evans Band as well as Warren Haynes, Robben Ford (Soulgrass meets Blues), Phil Lesh & Friends, The Stern/ Evans Band, Medeski Martin & Wood, and countless sit-ins with The Allman Brothers Band, Umphrey's Mcgee, Moe, Blues Traveler, Galactic and more. Evans will be spending much of his time touring with the Bill Evans Band in support of his new album "Rise Above." Eri's 10th leader album, “life,” is a generous new collection of unique songs performed with her longstanding trio partners, bassist David Ambrosio and drummer Ikuo Takeuchi. Eri has developed her own unique voice as a solo pianist, and has moved audiences with renditions of her own compositions and spontaneous improvisations. Born in Osaka, Japan, Eri began playing classical piano at age three. She started composing when only eight years old, and studied voice, viola, and composition through her high school and college years.

LSAT is a fiery and engaging jazz quintet co-led by saxophonists Lauren Sevian and Alexa Tarantino. These two award-winning saxophonists have fused with a dynamic rhythm section that propels their music to new heights.

LSAT presents original compositions highlighting the unique combination of baritone and alto saxophone, as well as their own interpretations of favorites from the jazz repertoire. The two saxophonists recently worked together in Maurice Hines' Off-Broadway Production "Tappin' Thru Life" featuring the DIVA Jazz Orchestra, and are thrilled to collaborate in this new setting. Those attempting to describe Mario Rom's Interzone seem to be looking constantly for superlatives. After their last visit to XRIJF, Ron Netsky hailed the group "easily one of the most entertaining and scintillating acts at this year's festival. I have yet to hear a group of musicians – anywhere – with a more serious sense of play." Such a reaction is anything but self-evident for an Austrian band with a mean age of less than 30 years old, but the trio consisting of Mario Rom, Lukas Kranzelbinder, and Herbert Pirker has undeniably received a great deal of attention from critics and media the world over in a very short time. The group, with its unusual instrumentation (trumpet, bass and drums) has proved able to "spin virtuosity and humor into an entertaining whole" (Frankfurter’s Allgemeine Zeitung) and "gives the impression of being four, five, or more musicians" (Jazzthing). to make one thing clear: Interzone plays jazz. real jazz. nonetheless, their motto is "everything Is permitted" and they've lived it in Europe, Mexico, China, Israel, and the USA over the past two years.

The California High School All-Star Band was created in 1971 as a part of Monterey Jazz Festival's continuing commitment to jazz education. Renamed the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra in 2004, former members include pianists Benny Green and Patrice Rushen, bassist Larry Grenadier, drummer Chad Wackerman, saxophonists Joshua Redman, Donny McCaslin, Mark Turner, Eric Marienthal, Ted Nash, and Dave Koz; trombonist Andy Martin, flutist Elena Pinderhughes, trumpeters Gilbert Castellanos and Ambrose Akinmusire, and big band leader Gordon Goodwin, to name a few. Ole Mathisen is a saxophonist, composer and teacher, with a strong background in jazz. He earned a Master’s Degree from Manhattan School of Music, where he studied arranging with Maria Schneider, composition with Ed Green, and saxophone with Bob Mintzer, and he holds a Bachelor Degree from Berklee College of Music. Ole is the assistant director of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Performance Program at Columbia University, where he also has been teaching saxophone and directing ensembles since 2005. In 2013 Ole’s composition "Tone Poem: The Mind's Eye Inverted," was read by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra through a program by The Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute and Earshot. The composition explores outward communication of ideas that are instinctual, visceral and intuitive, through lyrical musical gestures. The composition employs in parts what Ole calls tonal fields, which are subsets of available tonal pitches that vary in each octave.

As a young guitarist growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Charlie Hunter was looking for a way to stand out in the '80s. His primary influences were jazz great Joe Pass and the fluid Tuck Andress (of the guitar/vocal duo Tuck & Patti), both six-string guitarists who were adept at blending bass notes into their standard guitar melodies to make themselves sound like two musicians at once. But Hunter wanted to take it one step further and set out to find an instrument on which he could simultaneously function as both a guitarist and a bassist. Picking bass notes with his right thumb while fretting them with his left index finger (while at the same time fingerpicking guitar chords and single notes with his right hand's remaining four digits as he frets with his left hand's other three fingers), Hunter achieves the real sound of “two-for-one.”

Imagine wandering into a nightclub somewhere on the outskirts of time. A classic jukebox in the corner plays timeless music with oddly familiar modern lyrics, incongruously marrying the 21st century party vibe of Miley Cyrus or the minimalist angst of Radiohead is incongruously married with the crackly warmth of a vintage 78 or the plunger-muted barrelhouse howl of a forgotten Kansas City jazzman. The story begins with a classic musical travel adventure: an ad in the music section of New York City's Village Voice. In the mid-'90s Elana James was looking to join a "gigging band" when Whit Smith answered her ad. Though he had no shows on the books, Whit somehow convinced Elana to come down to his East Village apartment and rock out for an evening just to see what would happen. Tommy Smith is a leading light in European jazz, first and foremost as one of the finest saxophonists of his generation, and latterly as the founder and current director of The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO). His prolific career began in earnest when at 16, he recorded his first album Giant Strides. He has collaborated Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, Kenny, Barron, Arild Andersen, John Scofield and Trilok Gurtu. His tenure with the SNJO has seen critically acclaimed performances and recordings of programmed and commissioned works including hugely popular treatments of Ellington, Gershwin, Weather Report and Miles Davis.

He also holds three honorary doctorates from Heriot-Watt, Glasgow Caledonian & Edinburgh Universities and a Professorship from the RCS. His album KARMA won him his seventh Scottish Jazz Award for album of the year in 2012.

Perhaps the most pivotal turn in the storied career of pianist George Cables came when hard-bop legend Dexter Gordon invited him to join his quartet in 1977. The two years he spent with the re-appreciated tenor giant ignited Cables's passion for the acoustic piano and re-immersed him in the bebop vocabulary. "I don't feel that one should be stuck in the mud playing the same old stuff all the time, trying to prove that this music is valid," Cables says. "We don't need to prove anything. find your own voice.” The longest standing relationship Cables developed in the late seventies was with alto saxophonist Art Pepper. Cables, who Pepper called "Mr. Beautiful," became Art's favorite pianist, appearing on many quartet dates for Contemporary and Galaxy, and joining Art for the extraordinary duet album, Goin' Home, that would be Pepper's final recording session.

"I've been able to play with some of the greatest musicians in the world," Cables says, “but it's funny, if you're not seen as a bandleader, doing the same thing a lot of times, it's easy to wonder, `Well, who are you really? What do you really feel?' And sometimes I have to ask myself that, because every time I play with somebody different I have to put on a different hat.” George has performed and recorded with some of the greatest jazz musicians of our time, including: Joe Henderson, Roy Haynes, Max Roach, Art Blakey, Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Sarah Vaughn, Tony Williams, Bobby Hutcherson and Dizzy Gillespie.

Charles Pillow hails from Baton Rouge, LA. After college at Loyola University, he pursued his Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies at the prestigious Eastman School of Music, in Rochester, NY. Since moving to NYC in 1987, he has appeared on over 100 recordings of jazz, pop luminaries such as Frank Sinatra, Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Luther Vandross, Paul Simon, Michael Brecker, Bruce Springsteen, John Scofield, Tom Harrell, Dave Liebman, David Sanborn, to name a few.

What started with vibrant Sunday night Jam sessions in the 80s continues today through a diverse career that has taken many twists and turns, including making continual strides for musical enlightenment through the Eastman Community Music School. Typically a sideman, here C-Note steps out as leader, with his old friend and mentor Paul Hofmann, presenting some of that good music which has been inspirational since childhood. by Bill Tiberio with wonderful support from then ECMS dean Dr. Howard Potter. Members of the ensemble include public and private school educators, retired teachers, private lesson instructors, and related career professionals. The ensemble exists to give Rochester-area music educators an outstanding outlet to perform the best traditional and contemporary large ensemble jazz repertoire, and to provide professional development opportunities to teachers. "To a secularized quasi-hipster with the just the right touch of angst, astronomy at a popular science level that describes the vastness of the universe has what it takes to calm a frantic society so impossible to adjust to at times. The constantly growing distance to other planets and suns provides a key feeling of solitude and you can study this general expansion of the universe by way of the Doppler effect of light -> redshift-> Z." That's what it sounds like when the bandleader attempts to put the latest chapter of the Klabbes bank saga into words while also explaining the title of their latest album Z. Ever since that first gig in Gothenburg back in 2002, the band's music directed by Klas-Henrik "Klabbe" Hörngren-has always been in transition.

The musical direction of the band has evolved but it is still possible to clearly detect a certain something that's been there since their debut album "Musik för såna som mormor & morfar" from 2004. Klabbe goes on to explain: "The compositions feature the highly individual voices of three wind instruments bathing in a trio producing an electronic ocean. Occasionally they float on top, other times they're submerged, bringing forth music that ripples and crests like waves."

Electric Kif is a band that came together to perform music as an outlet in between sideman and session gigs with other artists raging from Matt Scofield to Flo Rida…and many more in between. After a couple of years of hosting well known jam sessions in Miami, with numerous talented guest musicians joining them, the members realized their original music was taking its own form and getting a great response from those who heard it. No one should be surprised at the new Mavis Staples; for six decades she has been the solid rock of American music. Alongside the family group she is so identified with, the Staple Singers, Mavis has managed to transform herself as she goes, yet never alter. From the delta-inflected gospel sound she helped create in the 1950s, to the engaged protest of the civil rights era, and then, amazingly, on pop radio in the Stax era with a series of soul anthems, from "I'll Take You There" to "Respect Yourself," through all these Mavis carried on, her warm embrace of a voice the only constant. How many musicians can claim this: to exist outside any scene, outside genre, yet weaving themselves into the fabric of soul, R&B, jazz, gospel, rock and blues? Many of the maverick names that come to mind are composers as well; that Mavis has created her legacy as an interpreter of others – an underestimated talent since the days of the band singers – makes her achievement all the more impressive. She gives voice to others; more than that, she gives voice to entire movements, to eras, to songs so old their roots are lost. And she manages to work a little PFunk in there too. Recently, recognition of Mavis' unique role in American music has been growing beyond her longtime fans, dipping into the wider world of pop as she performs alongside Justin Timberlake at the White House tribute to Memphis Soul, or with Elton John in a show-stealing Grammy tribute to Levon Helm of the Band. Her first album with Tweedy at the controls, You Are Not Alone, won a much-deserved Grammy. Now, on her second collaboration with Tweedy – Mavis calls him "Tweedy" all day long, and they are a pleasure to watch in the studio, riffing like some old vaudeville team – she has made an album to match her new national profile. One True Vine is an album that will both surprise longtime fans and solidify her position at the helm of American music.

"4 By Monk by 4" features the refined styles of piano jazz masters Kenny Barron, Benny Green, Cyrus Chestnut and George Cables who will perform classic Monk compositions at The Lyric Theatre and Kilbourn Hall. These 4 amazing pianists will interpret Monks classic compositions in spellbinding fashion.

Thelonious Monk was one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time and one of first creators of modern jazz and bebop. For much of his career, Monk played with small groups at Milton's Playhouse. Many of his compositions have become jazz standards, including "Well, You Needn't," "Blue Monk" and "Round Midnight." His spares and angular music had a levity and playfulness to it. As a pioneering performer who managed to slip almost invisibly through the jazz community during the first half of his career, Monk is exactly the type of figure who invites rumor and exaggeration. The image the public has been left with is that of a demanding, eccentric recluse with an inborn gift for piano. The real person was more complex. "People don't think of Thelonious as Mr. Mom," his son points out, recalling his father changing diapers, "but I clearly saw him do the Mr. Mom thing, big-time.” Whatever Thelonious was to the media, it's clear what his legacy will be to jazz music: that of a true originator. Monk probably said it best when he insisted that a "genius is one who is most like himself."

Scandinavian/British jazz trio Phronesis has the ability to excite, inspire and move people in a way that few bands are able to do. Formed in 2005 by Danish double bass player Jasper Høiby, their charismatic live performances have captured the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide and prompted Jon Newey (Editor of Jazzwise Magazine) to describe them as "the most exciting and imaginative piano trio since EST." In Spring 2016 Phronesis launched their sixth album 'Parallax' (recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London) with concerts at the 950-seater Cadogan Hall in London and at Jazzhouse in Copenhagen, plus tour dates in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and France. In the summer the trio were invited to perform at the opening of the Danish Olympic Pavilion in Rio, Brazil alongside dates at the prestigious SESC venues in São Paulo. September saw the trio returning to the studio in Germany to record Julian Argüelles's arrangements of their compositions with the hr Frankfurt Radio Big Band. Oskar Stenmark NYC Quartet plays traditional melodies from Sweden, inherited from Oskar's ancestors mixed with New York jazz. The lyrical melodies will give you a Nordic flavor, but the rhythm, harmony and feel can only be found in New York City. Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, Oskar is the seventh generation in a family of professional musicians. He eventually picked up the trumpet and received a Bachelor in Improvisation degree from the University of Gothenburg in 2013. Oskar moved to New York a year later to pursue his musical dreams, and he received a Master's in Jazz Performance and composition from the Manhattan School of Music in 2016.

Stenmark has performed with stars such as Chris Potter, Dave Liebman and the multiple GRAMMY award recipient Maria Schneider Orchestra. The quartet features some of the most sought after musicians in New York, hailing from the U.S. and Sweden. Oskar plays flugelhorn exclusively, an instrument that blends better with the traditional melodies. Oskar has recorded an album with the original melodies at Studio Epidemin (Gothenburg), it was released in May 2014 and is available on Spotify and iTunes. Oskar currently resides in New York, working with the tradition and music of his ancestors.

In Orbit brings together musicians from both sides of the Canada-USA border, centered on the original compositions of saxophonist Jeff Coffin, and guitarist Michael Occhipinti, joined by brilliant bassist Felix Pastorius, Nashville/ Toronto pianist Tom Reynolds, and drummer Davide Direnzo. Jeff Coffin is an omni-present saxophonist based in Nashville, who is best known for his work with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, and more recently as a member of the Dave Matthews Band. However, Jeff has been composing original music and releasing albums with his M'utet for many years and is one of the most active instructors/clinicians working with young musicians in the United States.

Felix Pastorius is the son of legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius, and in recent years has established himself as a gifted bassist with an approach all his own. The music is energetic, imaginative, and freely flows across styles. In Orbit shares a love of great grooves expressed with soulful spirt and deep musicianship.

The name Dakha Brakha is original, outstanding and authentic at the same time. It means «give/ take» in the old Ukrainian language. Dakha Brakha was created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art “DAKH” by the avant-garde theatre director, Vladyslav Troitskyi. Theatre work has left its mark on the band performances, their shows have never been staged without the scenic effects. Having experimented with Ukrainian folk music, the band has added rhythms of the surrounding world into their music, thus creating bright, unique and unforgettable image of Dakha Brakha. It will help to open the potential of Ukrainian melodies and to bring it to the hearts and consciousness of the younger generation in Ukraine and the rest of the world as well. Accompanied by Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian traditional instrumentation, the quartet's astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a trans-national sound rooted in Ukrainian culture.

At the crossroads of Ukrainian folklore and theatre their musical spectrum is intimate then riotous, plumbing the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms, inspiring “cultural and artistic liberation.”

A drummer who has been in demand for a variety of musically challenging assignments, Bill Goodwin has put together a list of credits that would be worthy of any member of the drummer's hall of fame. One of his specialties is laying down a steady yet subtle beat in the piano trio groups of leaders who have a sophisticated edge to their tunes, including Mose Allison, as well as the even more introspective and experimental Tom Waits. Bill joined the band of Phil Woods in 1974, contributing powerhouse drumming to this already strong bop saxophonist's sound. He produced all the Phil Woods' recordings he has played on since the early '80s, as well as projects for Bob Dorough, Keith Jarrett, Tom Harrell, and others.

Buffalo, NY native Ronnie Foster’s initial solo style favored funky vamps instead of risky improvisation, He was frequently overlooked by jazz purists during the peak of his career in the first half of the '70s. However, Ronnie was a talented mainstream funk and soul-jazz keyboardist who managed to cultivate a successful career as a sideman (working frequently with George Benson, in particular) and producer during the late '70s, '80s, and '90s. Furthermore, his '70s records for Blue Note became cult items among a new generation of listeners raised on acid jazz. Even if he rarely led a session after 1979, Foster wound up playing some sort of a role in mainstream and funk-jazz during the '80s and '90s. Early on, Foster performed for such musicians as Stanley Turrentine, Grant Green, and George Benson and by the early '70s, he had formed a group called Energy II. Grant Green had Foster play on his “Alive” album, and the organist's performance so impressed the label's Dr. George Butler, he offered Foster a recording contract.

In addition to being an accomplished and versatile saxophonist and woodwind player, Bill Tiberio is a music educator. He has over 25 years of experience in the field of public music education, and has been at Fairport (NY) high school since 1988. At Fairport, Bill conducts the top Concert Band, two jazz ensembles, jazz combos, pit orchestras, chamber ensembles, and teaches woodwinds throughout the district. He is the former president of the NY State Chapter of the International Association of Jazz Educators, is on the summer jazz faculty for the Eastman Community Music School high school program, and is the founder and director of the Hochstein School of Music summer jazz camp. Bill is also a regular faculty member for the Tritone Jazz Fantasy Camps, held in Rochester in the summer. He is the founder and conductor of the Eastman Community Music School High School Chamber Winds, and is the conductor of the University of Rochester Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble. During the 2010-11 school year, Bill started the Eastman Community Music School Jazz Educators Ensemble, and taught the Thursday Night Jazz Lab Band at Ithaca College.

Jazz has always been a natural part of Iris Bergcrantz’s life, since she grew up in a jazz music family. (Anders Bergcrantz is her father.)

Already as a four-year-old, she started singing in a choir and at the age of nine she participated on a record. At 14, Bergcrantz received third prize in an international singing competition that was broadcast in Macedonian TV. At 17 she received the "rising star of the year" award. She has also received numerous scholarships over the years. In 2014 Bergcrantz debuted as a soloist with Malmö Opera Orchestra, where they performed a piece she wrote herself that was arranged

by Anna-Lena Laurin. The concert took place at Malmö Arena, a concert visited by several thousands of people. In the fall Bergcrantz will tour Sweden with the great jazz legend Victor Lewis. She will also be on Swedish television performing her own music.

Anders Bergcrantz is widely considered to be one of the major voices of his instrument. He has performed and / or recorded with a diverse range of notable musicians, including Dave Liebman, Billy Harper, Victor Lewis, Billy Hart, Richie Beirach, Monica Zetterlund, The Royal Stockholm Symphony Orchestra, The Symphony Orchestra at Norrlandsoperan, Adam Nussbaum, McCoy Tyner, Mike Brecker among others.

King Crimson was conceived in November 1968 and born on January 13th 1969 in the Fulham Palace Cafe, London (Fripp/Ian McDonald/Greg Lake/Michael Giles/Pete Sinfield), coming to prominence after supporting The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park. Their ground-breaking debut In The Court Of The Crimson King (1969) described by Pete Townshend as "an uncanny masterpiece," began a career that has spanned four decades and influenced many bands and individuals including Yes, Genesis, Tool, and Porcupine Tree. Despite the original line-up imploding after an American tour King Crimson continued to produce constantly challenging and intriguing music on albums such as In The Wake of Poseidon (1970), Lizard (1970), Islands (1971), Earthbound (1972), Larks' Tongues in Aspic (1973) and Red (1974). The band's current eight piece lineup -- its ninth since 1969 -- includes founder Robert Fripp on guitar, Tony Levin on bass, singer-guitarist Jakko Jakszyk, and Mel Collins on flute and saxophones alongside the drummers and multi-instrumentalists, Gavin Harrison, Pat Mastelotto, Jeremy Stacey and Bill Rieflin. Beloved for their virtuosic musicianship and live improvisations, the veteran performers will take fans on an unforgettable musical journey through their hallowed repertoire!

Talib Kweli, Aaron Neville, and Allen Stone. Krasno's rousing new solo album, 'Blood From A Stone,' reveals a previously unknown and utterly compelling side of his artistry, though, inviting us to bear witness as he both literally and metaphorically finds his voice.

"I've been writing songs with vocals for other people for a while," explains Krasno, who sings for the first time on 'Blood From A Stone.' "With these songs, we initially wrote them thinking others would sing them, so when I was in the studio with different artists, sometimes I'd introduce one of the tracks and they'd record it, but it wouldn't necessarily work out. Eventually, I realized it was because I'd written these songs for myself."

A native of Los Angeles, Grammy nominated drummer Sammy Miller has become known for his unique maturity and relentless focus on making music that "feels good" as a drummer, singer and bandleader. Upon completing his Master's at The Juilliard School, Sammy formed his ensemble, The Congregation. As a band they are focused on sharing the power of community through their music-joyful jazz. While independently the band members have performed/recorded with notable artist including Wynton Marsalis, O.A.R, Iron and Wine, Joshua Redman, Lee Fields, Jason Moran at venues including the White House, Lincoln Center, and the Hollywood Bowl they have opted to stick together to create globally conscious music with the intention to spread joy throughout the world.

The band has come a long way since they first assembled in a Paris Studio in the late 2000s to create the soundtrack for an early 20th century erotic film. All accomplished Jazz musicians, their shared love for electronic dance music pushed them to combine those influences into a new project, at the crossroads of the exuberance of manouche jazz (the Caravan) and the hedonism of modern club music (the Palace, after one of the iconic Parisian clubs). With their 1940s-inspired look, they serve up festive, frantic music, an improbable futuristic and melodious Jive fit for the dance floor. Now in the mist of composing their fourth album, the band has decided to take a break from the studio and go back on the road in North America.

Ron Stackman, Jim Schwarz and Lou LaVilla began performing together in 1972. The following year they created Bahama Mama, one of the first American bands to embrace Reggae music. When the group took a hiatus in 1980, Stackman, Schwarz and LaVilla remained together and formed The Majestics. Originally a trio with Ron on Hammond B-3, clavinet and guitar, Jim on bass and Lou on drums, the Majestics steadily developed a fan base in upstate New York, eventually catching the attention of the legendary Lee "Scratch" Perry. Now, 35 years after the band's formation, the Majestics’ original trio is back along with guitarist Kevin Hart. Original roots music along with versions of classic Reggae gems.

Benny Green possesses the history of jazz at his fingertips. Combine mastery of keyboard technique with decades of real world experience playing with no one less than the most celebrated artists of the last half century, and it's no wonder Green has been hailed as perhaps the most exciting hard-swinging, hard-bop pianist to ever emerge from Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

Benny Green, is unconditionally, the bearer of the torch and guardian of a legacy handed down to him, personally, by his musical mentors. His most recent recordings, Live in Santa Cruz (2015) and Magic Beans (2012) (Sunnyside) are shining examples of his brilliance. Since emerging under the tutelage of Betty Carter, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard and Ray Brown in the early 1980s, Benny Green has become a highly-regarded pianist and bandleader. His efforts to expand upon the language of the classical jazz canon have placed him not only among the best interpreters but also among the vanguard of musicians keeping jazz's evolution going.

Saxophonist Donny McCaslin and his band, featured on David Bowie's Blackstar, will make their Motéma Music debut with the October 14 release of Beyond Now, a highly-anticipated album dedicated to Bowie. Recorded nearly three months after Bowie's passing, the project is deeply influenced by their extraordinary experience collaborating with one of the greatest artists of all-time on his final album. "It was like a dream except it was something I never could have dreamed of," reflects McCaslin on working together with Bowie on Blackstar. "David Bowie was a visionary artist whose generosity, creative spirit, and fearlessness will stay with me the rest of my days. Beyond Now is dedicated to him and to all who loved him." Comprised of core Blackstar personnel, bassist Tim Lefebvre (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Saturday Night Live), drummer Mark Guiliana (Meshell Ndegeocello, Brad Mehldau), and Jason Lindner (Now Vs Now) along with guitarist Nate Wood and producer David Binney, Beyond Now's repertoire is expansive, comprised of two Bowie songs, covers of Deadmau5, MUTEMATH, and the Chainsmokers, as well as compelling McCaslin originals including the title composition, inspired by a track inspired by a song McCaslin recorded for Blackstar that didn't make the album.

When Danielle Ponder and the Tomorrow People hit the stage things get torqued up quickly like a tent revival during tornado season. Danielle Ponder and the Tomorrow People transcend musical genres with a blast of deep, powerful groove and soul. The band is the groove while Ponder's pipes keep it rooted in soul. And according to Ponder, soul is more than a sound.

"Soul music is something you feel," she says. "It gives you goose bumps." This Rochester, NY native has spent the past 10 years rendering goose bumps by perfecting her style and charismatic performance. She sings, you listen, you melt. The result of her focus and dedication is a tone that is both enchanting and seductive along with a riveting, honest stage presence. It is this voice that has helped her secure gigs opening for powerhouses such as George Clinton, Ledisi and The Roots.

If you ask the names of the most prominent and sought after jazz- and improvised music drummers in Norway, you can be sure to find Gard Nilssen on that list. Anywhere you turn, he's there, either as a sideman (Team Hegdal, Cortex, Lord Kelvin, Zanussi 5 or Susanne Sundfør) or leading and co-leading a good number of acclaimed groups (Bushman's Revenge, Puma, sPacemoNkey or Astro Sonic), some going to the absolute frontier territories of jazz, rock and electric experimentalism. There is a good chance that jazz fans have already seen Gard Nilssen play, given that he is one of the most indemand drummers from Norway's jazz and improv scene. He has appeared on several occasions at in various world renown jazz- and rock festivals throughout the world in different lineups.

Nilssen has played in the rhythm section – and been the leader – of various groups at the cutting edge of jazz, pop and experimental electronics.

Music is truly in my heart and soul," says the New York-born Alana Davis. Music isn't just in her heart and soul it's in her DNA as well.

Alana's mother is Anna Schofield, a noted jazz vocalist whose 1963 Atlantic Records release, "Anamari," was produced by the legendary Nesuhi Ertegun and featured jazz greats Art farmer, Grady Tate, Jim Hall and Clark Terry. And, her father is acclaimed jazz pianist Walter Davis Jr., who played with Charlie Parker, Art Blakey and Dizzy Gillespie and whose albums "Davis Cup" and "In Walked Thelonious" are considered jazz classics. Raised by her mother in a humble West Village apartment amidst a backdrop of bebop, Stevie Wonder, Harry Belafonte and Nat King Cole, Alana would learn to harmonize at a young age as her musical mom would sing songs like, "You Are My Sunshine," with her on the way to the school bus. Alana would soon gravitate to the burgeoning underground punk and reggae scene at the time, and cite bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bad Brains amongst her favorites. She'd later dabble in the likes of Joni Mitchell and Billie Holiday and discover her instrument of choice, the guitar, at age 16.

The Hooligans are a seven-piece band of multifaceted entertainers that have come together to form one of the top bands in the world. Most noted for their work as the backing band for international pop star Bruno Mars, their combination of excelsior musicianship and dancing has been seen on stages including The Super Bowl, The Grammys and live concerts worldwide.

Combining musical genres such as funk, R&B, Hip Hop, reggae, and jazz, their eclectic style gives them a music database to thrill any crowd. They are currently on the 24k Magic World Tour with Bruno Mars.

From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada to the stages of the world, sharing his talent with some of the greatest and most influential musicians of all time, Colin James has quietly and steadily established himself as one of Canada's greatest musicians. For his 18th album, Blue Highways, Colin pays tribute to some of his long time blues idols including Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Freddie King, Jr. Wells & Buddy Guy, Peter Green, Robert Johnson and William Bell to name a few. In the spring of 2015 after wrapping up his Hearts on Fire Tour, Colin was loving playing with his band and really happy with the sound they had created on stage. What better time to make a record! Especially the record Colin had been itching to make for years – a collection of some of his favorite blues tracks. In less than a week Colin was recording in The Warehouse Studios in Vancouver and in just two days, Blue Highways was born.

Here's How It Works

Starting around 4 PM, patrons (Club Pass holders and those paying cash at the door) may line up and receive a color-coded wristband that will specify a return time to see the show. You must be present and in line to get a wristband. Come back at your assigned time and enjoy the show!
