PROJECT 1 SITE ANALYZING & DESIGNING The Higgins Hall (architecture building) attracts me a lot not because of its function for atudents, but also the facade and the interesting plaza.

This project is for planning a new space setting on the Higgins Hall Plaza, with forms and functions,

This is the sketch I did for fun.

Inspired by the randomly distributed rectangular windows of Higgins Hall’s facade, I had some try for arranging spaces on 2D plane.

This is my imagination of the facade of Higgins Hall, though the product is far more complex than this one, but this is the piece I really loved to show my happy time spent in Higgins Hall.

SITE DRAWINGS By doing site drawings, I began to use inches and feet instead of milimeters and centimeters, got used to utilize architecture scales, vellum paper and tracing paper.

Even though site drawing is to translate 1/4’’ scale to 3/8’’ ones on vellum paper, I found it really hard to draw everything precisely.

These drawings are the architectural elements printed on the planes. By combining the features of each element, drawing some simple lines, making division and subdivision rules, I got the comparatively clear idea of the planning of my site.

These three drawings are the skecthes of my product, I put it here to make some comparisons with the original ones.

These drawings seem to be complex, but the process to build up a 3D model is quite interesting.

PROJECT2 MODELS

FIRST MODEL The symbol of a pointer is the shape I extracted from the subdivision drawings. Instead of thinking it in 2D planes, I was considering the 3D organizing of the small components of the model.

I did 5 small models, in disparatly different shapes and sizes, and combined them together, then get the interesting product.

But the problem comes: too diverse and unordered. So I had the second try.

SECOND MODEL To make the model more organizing, I let the shape be the base, then build up to form 3D models.

FINAL MODEL After making sure the second model’s shape.

I redid the model, with subtle adjustment and placement, and got the satisfying product.

COMPARISON OF THE MODELS To show the difference of the second and the final model, I put them together and took pictures.

The left one is the final model, the right one is the second model.
