What do wine tastings, beer on tap, and live entertainment have in common for average 21 and up year old Victor Valley Community College students? A 10% off discount! The Wine Cellar located at 19341 Bear Valley Road in Apple Valley offers a mature environment for those seeking to enhance their palette. VVC students with a current student ID are welcome to enjoy their 10% off discount as well as other activities such as, wine club, wine tastings, beer club, paint parties, comedy night, and live music. Manager Rhonda Henry wants students to know that The Wine Cellar offers about

100 different wines to choose from. Wine is sold by the glass and wine flights are also available. Students can enjoy wine tasting from the board on the weekends, but for a more formal wine tasting, a vendor comes in once a month and pours a generous amount of wine from five different wine bottles for only $10.00. Should a patron decide on purchasing a bottle of wine that was introduced from the vendor, a 15% discount is applied at time of purchase. Formal wine tastings and wine club are offered once a month.

Whereas, wine club is offered every second Wednesday of the month. The establishment also offers 22 different craft beers on tap where students can also order beer flights. Every month, The Wine Cellar does a “tap takeover” where the beer is changed. This month, The Wine Cellar is featuring San Diego’s craft beer, Karl Strauss. Beer club is offered every first Tuesday of every month, live music featuring local bands is offered every ThursdaySaturday, paint parties are offered every other Tuesday, and live comedy is offered every first Wednesday of the month. A Relay for Life By Arely Valdez Reporter

Victor Valley Community College held a cancer awareness donation fundraiser event called Relay for Life on May 19tth and 20th on its campus. It is an event that is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The people who participate walk from 6 to 24 hours to meet their fundraising goals. Their fundraising continues with selling food and goods. They have activities and games to keep making their goal come true.

There are eight parts at this event. The first is an opening ceremony for the relay participants. The Second part is the survivor lap. All the survivors and people affected by cancer take the first lap. The third is the caregiver lap where those who cared for the survivors take their lap. The fourth to join the laps are the teams that are there to help raise money. For example there is Team Childhood, where people walk for the children and their families affected by cancer. The fifth is team members walking around the event. The sixth is

when participants go around to do the activities provided there in the camps that are set up. The seventh is once the sun has gone down and luminaries are lit to remember those who have passed away, survivors, and those affected telling them that they are not alone. The eighth is a closing ceremony. In the month of May, law enthusiast celebrate Law Day which is celebrated on May 1st. During the month, a mix group of local attorneys come together by giving back to their communities. The High Desert Bar Association celebrated law day on Saturday May 19 at Victor Valley College by hosting an event for the High Desert community with free legal advice on any issue they might have. It was explained as an informal gathering to allow the general public to attend without them feeling intimidated with dealing with lawyers. Brandon Wood who is in the board of directors of the High Desert Bar Association explained what Law Day meant to him, he commented, “we (High Desert Bar Association) have been doing this for as long as I can remember, it’s attorneys giving back to the community and making themselves available by helping Continued on Page 5…
