Toda actividad creativa es ajena a una división fronteriza. Y, aunque en nuestro mundo la libertad es un término en claro proceso degenerativo, o precisamente por ello, el proyecto “Con el viento” pretende establecer un viaje de ida y vuelta, abierto y estimulante, entre Chicago y Lanzarote.

Tres pintores relacionados con Lanzarote: Aaron Bueso, Roberto Batista y Romana Brunnauer y tres de Chicago: InJung Oh, Sally Ko y Sergio Gómez establecerán un dialogo “With the Wind” sobre aquello que a su paso haya depositado en cada uno.

All creative activity is alien to a border division. And, although in our world freedom is a term in clear degenerative process, or precisely because of it, the project “With the Wind” aims to establish a round trip, open and stimulating, between Chicago and Lanzarote. Three painters related to Lanzarote, Spain: Aaron Bueso, Roberto Batista and Romana Brunnauer, and three from Chicago, USA: InJung Oh, Sally Ko and Sergio Gomez will establish a dialogue “Con el viento” about what they have deposited in each one.

Licenciado en Bellas Artes por la Universidad de La Laguna.

Ha sido profesor de Pintura en La Facultad de BBAA de Santa Cruz de Tenerife y de Educación Plástica y Visual en Secundaria. Durante treinta años ha combinado su actividad artística con la profesional hasta que abandona su labor pedagógica para dedicarse plenamente a la Pintura.

Desarrolla su trabajo en la ciudad de San Cristóbal de La Laguna, donde tiene su estudio y residencia habitual, siendo la pintura el medio expresivo con el que más identificado se siente y que siempre ha formado parte de su itinerario artístico -óleo, acrílico, acuarela y grafito son procedimientos generalmente presentes en su obra. También la fotografía ocupa un importante espacio en su quehacer artístico.

Trabaja actualmente en dos proyectos: PASSAROLA, sobre textos de José Saramago y RESXISTENCIA. Una existencia digna y humana solo es posible desde la resistencia. Resistir al presente como decía Deleuze, a la confusión y el desorden de la actualidad y hacerlo desde el recogimiento, la reflexión y la toma de conciencia, desde la profundidad de lo marginal. Degree in fine arts from the Universidad of La Laguna.

He has been a professor of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and of Plastic and Visual Education in Secondary Education. For 30 years he has combined his artistic activity with his profession as a teacher to later on abandon his pedagogical work and dedicate his time fully to Painting.

He develops his work in the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, where he has his studio and habitual residence. Painting is the expresive medium he feels most identified with and it has always been part of his artistic journey. Oil, acrylic, watercolor and graphite are procedures which are generally present in his work. Photography also occupies an important space in his artistic work.

He is currently working on two projects: PASSAROLA, on texts by José Saramago and RESXISTENCIA, a dignified and human existence is only possible through resistance. As Deleuze said, resist the present, the confusion and disorder of today and do it through recollection, reflection and awareness, from the depth of the marginal. Roberto Batista.

Romana G. Brunnauer Máguez, Lanzarote.

She develops her work in Lanzarote.

Estudió, vivió y trabajó en Munich (Alemania). Después de la Universidad comenzó como escritora y directora creativa para diversos medios de comunicación. Ganó numerosos premios de prestigio a lo largo de su carrera.

En 2005 se trasladó a Lanzarote en las Islas Canarias, España. Desde 2006 está dedicada exclusivamente a las artes plásticas, y en concreto a la pintura. Estudió con renombrados artistas como los “Zhou-brothers” de Chicago. Su trabajo se ha expuesto en Lanzarote e internacionalmente en diferentes espacios expositivos y su obra está repartida en colecciones privadas y públicas.

Mi pintura se inspira en aquellas cosas que nos mueven como seres humanos, que nos motivan, cosas a las que tenemos miedo y amamos al mismo tiempo: Quiero explorar los motivos internos de nuestros actos externos. Mi enfoque no es científico, sino más bien intuitivo, y se centra en las emociones más profundas y principalmente en los sentimientos arquetípicos.

En mi proceso de pintura revivo y afronto estos sentimientos e intento transformarlos. Así, el miedo puede convertirse en valor, el dolor en aceptación y el odio en amor. Al hacerlo, adopto una imaginería visual abstracta con elementos figurativos aplicados de vez en cuando. Intento conscientemente causar confusión e irritación, tanto con mis líneas como en mi perspectiva, porque sin estos sentimientos la transformación que pretendo lograr no sería posible.

Mi medio preferido es la pintura acrílica sobre lienzo. ¡Y un montón de agua! El uso del agua quita racionalidad a mi método de trabajo. Proporciona ese momento en el que el azar construye el puente entre yo, como artista, y el observador de mi obra.

Romana G. Brunnauer.

Studied, lived and worked in Munich (Germany). After University she started as a Writer and Creative Director for Conventional and New Media. She won a numerous prestigious awards throughout her career.

In 2005 she moved to Lanzarote on the Canary Islands in Spain. Since 2006 Romana has been exclusively dedicated to visual arts. Her work is internationally represented in exhibitions as well as in private and public collections.

My painting is inspired by those things which move us as human beings, which motivate us, which we are afraid of and which we love: it explores the inner motives of our external deeds. My approach is not scientific, but rather intuitive, and I focus on underlying energies which we encounter as deep and mainly archetypal sentiments.

In my painting process, I face these feelings and transform them. Thus, my fear becomes courageous. Sorrow begins to hope and hate turns into love. In doing so, I adopt an abstract visual imagery with (rarely) applied figurative elements. I consciously cause confusion and irritation with both my lines and perspective, without which this transformation would not be possible.

My preferred medium is acrylic paint on canvas. And a lot of water! The use of water prevents rationality in my work method.

It provides that moment of chance which builds the bridge from me, as artist, to the observer of my paintings. Romana G. Brunnauer.

Soy Aaron Bueso (Aaron Garcia Bueso), nacido en Madrid en 1975. Durante mi infancia destaqué en el arte y las matemáticas, me describían como un niño brillante. Con 18 años comencé mi carrera en ciencias empresariales que rápidamente cambié por diseño industrial. Me formé en el Istituto Europeo di Design y EFTI Centro Internacional de Fotografía y Cine en Madrid. En 1997, junto con el diseñador de moda David Delfín y el actor Pepón Nieto, fundé la firma «Sans Titre». Juntos desarrollamos un proyecto basado en la utilización de materiales textiles como soporte para la creación plástica de piezas decorativas. En paralelo obtuve un master de gestión y diseño de exposiciones y pabellones en la Fundación Antonio Camunas que me permitió participar en varios concursos nacionales de diseño de espacios temporales. A mediados de los 90 empecé a explorar mis primeras pinturas, sin abandonar mis esfuerzos como diseñador industrial y gráfico. Estos primeros acercamientos al mundo de la pintura fueron retratos que realizaba por encargo, a su vez comencé a colaborar asiduamente con agencias de publicidad y con empresas de diseño web. En el año 2000 fundé «Taha» una marca de moda y complementos donde creé y firmé distintas líneas de diseño de bisutería y ropa para mujeres. Durante esa época desarrollé distintos proyectos gráficos para empresas distinguidas en la industria de la moda, entre ellas Pierre Cardin. En el 2007 me trasladé a la isla de Lanzarote para llevar una imprenta digital que compatibilice con mi vocación para desarrollar varias colecciones graficas de mis propias obras. Desde entonces tengo en Lanzarote mi residencia oficial y es en esta isla donde me volqué de Ileno en la pintura que no he abandonado hasta el día de hoy. Alterno estancias en Lanzarote y Madrid en donde tengo y disfruto de estudios de pintura y diseño. Mis obras están presentes en colecciones particulares de muchas regiones de España, Francia, Estados Unidos, Islandia, Reino Unido, Italia, Suiza, Alemania, México, Venezuela.

No sé por qué creo las piezas que hago, todo lo que puedo decir es que tengo que hacerlo, que algo dentro de mí me impulsa a expresarlo a través del lienzo, el papel, la madera o cualquier otro material que caiga en mis manos. Sensaciones, fobias, frustraciones, sueños e imágenes cromáticas que se forman en mi cerebro, me obligan a liberarlos usando cualquier sustancia: pegamento, látex, resinas, acrílico, pastel, lápiz, alambre ...

I am Aaron Bueso (Aaron Garcia Bueso), born in Madrid in 1975. During my studies in Primary and Secondary, and as I have been told, I excelled as a brilliant student of arts and mathematics. At the age of 18, I started my Business studies and one year later I switched to Industrial Design in IED photography at EFTI School both in Madrid. In 1997, together with fashion designer David Delfin and actor Pepon Nieto, I founded the company “Sans Titre”. We develop a project based on the use of textile materials for the creation of decorative plastic items. During the same period, at the Antonio Camunas Foundation, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Management and Design of Exhibitions and Pavilions, which allowed me to participate in several national competitions for the design of temporary space. In the mid-nineties, I began to explore my first paintings, without abandoning my career as a graphic and industrial designer. These first approaches to painting were especially portraits, some even on demand. I also started to collaborate regularly with advertising agencies and web design companies. In 2000, I founded “TAHA”, a fashion and accessories brand, with which I signed and created several lines of design and production of costume jewelery and women’s clothing. During this period, I designed several graphic developments for companies in the fashion industry, including Pierre Cardin. In 2007, I moved to the island of Lanzarote. There I assumed the management of a digital press that I used to produce several of my own graphic collections. Since then I have made Lanzarote my official residence and it is on this island that I am totally dedicated to my art. Since then I alternate life between Lanzarote and Madrid, where I have and enjoy the Painting and Design Studios. Some of my works are shown in private collections in many regions of Spain, France, USA. UU., Iceland, United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Mexico and Venezuela.

I do not know why I create the pieces that I do, all I can say is that I have to do it, that something inside of me drives me to expel myself by the canvas, the paper, the wood or any other material that falls into my hands. Sensations, phobias, frustrations, dreams and chromatic images that form in my brain, force me to release them using any substance: glue, latex, resins, acrylic, pastel, pencil, wire ...

Sergio Gómez Chicago IL Desarrolla su actividad artística en Chicago.

Sergio Gomez es un artista visual afincado en Chicago, comisario y emprendedor creativo. Recibió un máster en Artes Plásticas de Northern Illinois University.

Tiene en su haber 40 exposiciones individuales y ha participado en más de 150 colectivas en los Estados Unidos, también en México, Egipto, Korea, España, Italia, Austria, Bélgica, Inglaterra y Suecia.

Su obra está en colecciones privadas y públicas del National Museum of Mexican Art, Brauer Art Museum y el MIIT Museo Internazionale Italia Arte entre otras.

Aparte de su amplio trabajo de estudio, es el fundador/director de 33 Contemporary Gallery, curador/director en Zhou B. Art Center. También participa en la revista Italia Arte y en la Facultad de Arte y Diseño South Suburbano College. Es co-fundador del Art NXT Level Program el cual ayuda a artistas a promocionar y tener éxito en sus carreras artísticas.

A través de su podcast semanal Art NXT Level inspira y educa a artistas contemporáneos de todo el mundo.

Ha comisariado proyectos especiales para el Chicago Park District, Garfield Park Conservatory, ArtSpot Miami International Art Fair durante Art Basel Miami, Sirona Fine Arts, Evanston Art Center, Museo Regionale di Scienze Naturali of Turin, National Museum of Mexican Art y ExpoChicago entre otras.

Sergio Gomez is a Chicago based visual artist, curator and creative entrepreneur. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University. Sergio’s work has been subject of over 40 solo exhibitions and has participated in over 150 group exhibitions in the US and abroad. His work has been exhibited in Italy, Spain, Sweden, Egypt, England, Austria, Korea, Belgium, Mexico and the US. His work can be found in private and public collections of the National Museum of Mexican Art, Brauer Art Museum, and the MIIT Museo Internazionale Italia Arte among other public and private collections.

Besides his ample studio practice, Sergio Gomez is the founder/director of 33 Contemporary Gallery, curator/director of exhibitions at the Zhou B. Art Center, contributor for Italia Arte Magazine, Art/Design faculty at South Suburban College, co-funder of the Art NXT Level Program which helps artists launch and succeed in their art career.

His weekly Art NXT Level podcast inspires and educates contemporary artists around the world. Sergio has curated special projects for the Chicago Park District, Garfield Park Conservatory, ArtSpot Miami International Art Fair during Art Basel Miami, Sirona Fine Arts, Evanston Art Center, Museo Regionale di Scienze Naturali of Turin, National Museum of Mexican Art, and ExpoChicago among others.

Sally Ko nació en Seul, Corea, 1971. A los dos años de edad, emigró con su familia a los Estados Unidos. Creció en los suburbios de Chicago y sigue viviendo en la ciudad. Estudió en School of the Art Institute of Chicago y American Academy of Art. Su obra es variada en estilos y medios, pero es especialmente conocida por la forma de verter y manipular pintura para crear una sensación suelta pero controlada. Las formas orgánicas y la apariencia de dicha variedad reflejan no sólo la temática en cuestión -o el contenido de la particular pintura en la cual aparecen- sino también el proceso mental que da vida a su trabajo.

La obra de Sally es ampliamente apreciada y la podemos encontrar en colecciones privadas de una diversa gama de clientes, desde profesores, productores, ejecutivos a restauradores y varias personas reconocidas a nivel internacional.

Su trabajo ha aparecido en revistas, exposiciones, ferias, hoteles, oficinas, restaurantes de moda, galerías y museos internacionales.

Sally Ko was born in Seoul, Korea in 1971. She immigrated to the United States with her family when she was two-years old. She grew up in the city and north suburbs of Chicago and now lives in Chicago. Sally attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art. Sally works in a variety of styles and media but is especially known for her style of pouring and manipulating paint to create the loose, yet controlled sensation of her paintings. The organic patterns and appearance of this variety of her paintings reflect not only the actual theme or content of the particular painting in which they appear but also the mental process that gives life to the work.

Sally’s work is widely appreciated and can be found in the personal collections of a variety of clients that includes everyone from teachers to producers, executives to restaurateurs and several prominent national and international names.

Her works have been featured in various magazines and have been displayed in organized shows, art fairs, corporate spaces, hotels, fashionable restaurants, galleries and international museums.

InJung Oh Chicago IL. Desarrolla su actividad artística en Chicago.

She develops her work in Chicago.

Nació en Corea del Sur en 1982 y se mudó a los Estados Unidos a la edad de 13 años. Americana y Koreana, InJung Oh es una artista que tiene residencia en Zhou B Art Center y es creadora del espacio de arte contemporáneo “Volossom”.

Ganó un MFA (2009) y un BFA (2005) con una beca (2001-2005) y una beca honoraria (2005) de ‘School Art Institute of Chicago’ que se centraba en pintura y dibujo. Después de licenciarse, continúa exponiendo extensamente en Chicago y a nivel internacional. Exposiciones individuales en Union League Chicago, Zhou B Art Center (Chicago), Ed Pachke Art Center (Chicago), MIIT Museum (Turin) y Bluerider Art Gallery (Taipei).

Actualmente, enfoca su atención en desarrollar Volossom, un espacio de Arte multidisciplinar en Bridgeport, Chicago, donde presenta y colabora en proyectos de Artes Visuales usando diversos simbolismos y abstracciones. Crea tanto un espacio psicológico como espiritual en el que el observador puede experimentar para encontrar el equilibrio vital a través de Las Artes.

En un mundo lleno de tensiones culturales y de género. Oh busca respuestas a las contradicciones de sus múltiples identidades culturales. Éstas incluyen ser mujer que creció en una familia tradicional koreana y convivir con una familia china en una sociedad como la estadounidense. También es esposa y madre de dos hijos.

Korean American, InJung Oh is a female artist, resident at Zhou B Art Center, and creator of contemporary art space “Volossom.” She was born in South Korean in 1982, and moved to the US at the age of 13. She earned both a MFA (2009) and a BFA (2005) with a Full scholarship (2001-2005) and Fellowship in Honor (2005) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, with an emphasis in Painting and Drawing. After graduation, Oh continues to exhibit widely in Chicago and abroad.

She has had solo exhibitions at Union League Chicago, Zhou B Art Center (Chicago), Ed Pachke Art Center (Chicago), MIIT Museum (Turin), and Bluerider Art Gallery (Taipei). Her most recent project focus is to develop Volossom, a multifaceted art space in Bridgeport, Chicago. This is the place where Oh can present and collaborate on visual art projects creating both a psychological and spiritual space where the viewer can experience to find balance in life through arts. She is also a wife and mother of 2 children.

Using various symbolisms and abstractions, Oh creates a psychological and spiritual space through art to pause and release a sense of balance in the face of a world filled with gender and cultural tensions. In her works, Oh searches to find answers to the contradiction of her multiple cultural identities. These include being a woman who grew up in a traditional Korean family and living with a Chinese family in a Western society.
