ThisstatementshouldbereadinconjunctionwiththeMissionStatementoftheSchool,whichembodiestheoverallaimsandobjectivesof RMS.TheSchoolcatersforgirlsaged2–18andtheresidentialdepartmentmeetstheneedsofgirlsagedfrom8–18.TheSchooltherefore hasEarlyYears,primary,secondaryandpost16phases.PupilsareadmittedaccordingtotheAdmissionsPolicyoftheSchool.ThePreSchoolcatersforgirlsandboysaged2-4.
Full,weeklyandflexi-boardingatRMSofferopportunitiesforgirlsfromtheageofeighttodevelopsocialskillsandpersonal independencewithinacaringandsupportiveresidentialenvironment.
RMSprovidesboarderswithavariedrangeofexperienceswithinastructuredframework,sothatgirlslearntobecomeresponsiblefor themselvesandtheirlearning.Boardersareencouragedtodevelopgoodpatternsofself-studyandthisisbalancedbymanyopportunities forextracurricularactivity,tocaterfortheinterestsofdifferentgirlsofallages.

Girlsagedbetween8-14liveinHarrisHouse,girlsfrom14-16liveinZetlandHouseandSixthFormboardersareinConnaughtHouse. BoardersaregivengreaterfreedomastheyreachYears10&11andSixthForm.Thisgradualacknowledgementofapproaching adulthoodenablesgirlstolearnhowtobalancethedifferentaspectsoflife.SixthFormboarderstakegreaterresponsibilityfor themselves,thuspreparingforlifeatuniversity.ZetlandandConnaughtHousesarestaffedbyaHousemistress,AssistantHousemistress, HouseTutorandtwoGAPAssistants.HarrisHouseisstaffedbyaHousemistress,HouseParent,HouseTutorandthreeGAPassistants.
Housestaffplayacentralroleinthelivesofboardersandstaffareencouragedtotreadacarefullinebetweenfirmnessand approachability.Boardersshouldbe“athome”intheirhouse,sothattheyfeelsecureandvalued.RMSiscommittedtotheongoing professionaldevelopmentofallstaffsothatboardingstaffarewelltrainedandsupportedtofulfiltheirroleseffectively.Thereisan inductionpolicyforboardingstaffandappraisalprocedures.AllHousemistressesmeetweeklywiththeDirectorofBoarding.TheDirector ofBoardingmeetsweeklywiththeDeputyHeadPastoral.Readycommunicationbetweenboardingstaff,teachingstaff,medicalstaffand theschoolcounsellorwhereappropriateareessentialforthewellbeingofeachboarder.Thenamesandrelevantqualificationsofthestaff teamaretobefoundonthewebsite.TheHealthCentreisstaffedby2registerednurses.Oneschoolcounselloroffersappointments specificallyforboardersonenightaweek.Boardershaveaccesstoasilentlistener.
TheBoardingDepartmentcatersforapproximately100pupilsoneachnightoftheweek.Accommodationtakestheformofsingle,shared roomsandsmalldormitories.

HouseDuties
InConnaughtthereareminimumHousedutiestocompleteasallstudentsare expectedtotakeresponsibilityandcontributetothesmoothrunningoftheHouse. Thedutiesaredoneonrotationandingroupsofthree.Itisimportantthatyoufulfil yourdutyhowever;ifthereisareasonwhyyoumaynotbeabletocarryitoutyou mustnotifyamemberofyourteamorspeaktotheHousePrefects.
Rooms
ThefrontdoortotheHouseandyourstudybedroomareaccessedbykeycard. Allkeycardsareprogrammedwithappropriateaccesstimes.Allbedroomdoors arelockedatalltimes.Pleasehaveyourkeycardwithatalltimes.Ifyouloseyour keycardoryourdeskkey,youwillbecharged£10incashforareplacement.
CareofPersonalProperty
Eachpupilhasalockabledrawerorcupboardbutpleaseavoidbringingvaluable orexpensiveitemsintoschool.Wecannotacceptresponsibilityforitemsofthis nature.
ElectronicItems
Itemslikehairdryers,phonechargesandelectronictoothbrushes(tonameafew) willbePATtestedeveryyear.AtthebeginningoftheSeptembertermyouwillbe askedtoputalloftheseitemsonyourbed,includingextensioncables,tobe tested.IfyoubuyanynewitemyouMUSTtellyourhousemistress.Thiswillthen betested.Ifanyitemthatdoesnotpassthetestorisbrokenwillberemovedfrom yourroomandgiventohousestaff.Theywilltellyousoyouareaware.
Boarders’PrivacyandRespectforOthers
Duringthetermtheboardinghouse isyourhome.Youareentitledto yourprivacybutitisimportantthat youalsorespecttheprivacyofyour fellowpupils.
Youshouldnotgointoanother pupils’roomiftheyarenotthere.
Youshouldalwaysknockbefore enteringanotherpupils’room. Onschoolnights,pupilsshould beintheirroomsandtheHousesilent by10:15pm.
Laundry
Youareresponsibleforlaunderingyourpersonalclothesand,ifyouwant,your schooluniform.TheHousehasalaundryroomwithfourwashingmachinesand fourtumbledryersforyouruse.Weprovidewashingpowderbutyoumay purchaseyourown.Youmaytakeanotherstudentslaundryoutofthewashing machineaslongasyouplaceitinoneofthelaundrybasketsprovided.
Onnoaccounttransferittothetumbledryernordoyoutakeanotherstudents laundryoutofthetumbledryer.Bedlinenandtowelsarecollectedinonaweekly basisandsenttotheschoollaundry.Mrs.Denniswillexplaintheroutinetoyou.
StudyTime
Between7-9pmtheHouseisquiettoenablestudentstostudy.Youareableto studyinyourroom,intheHousequietstudyrooms,ortheResourceCentre.Music maybeplayedinroomsprovidingthevolumeiskeptlowandcannotbeheard fromoutsideoftheroom.
AlexHousewillbeopenforSeniorgirlstopracticebetween8-9pmeverynight,bar Friday,aswellasSaturdayandSundaybetween3-5pm,withasupervising memberofstaff.PleasemakesuretosignintoAlexonarrival.
CommunicationandHome
Communicationwithhomeisveryimportantandthereareavarietywaysinwhich thiscanbedone.TheBoardingHouseisnetworkedandhasWi-Fiwhichshould makeusingtechnologyasameansofcontactwithhomemucheasierparticularly withFacetimeorZoom.TheHousealsohasapayphone.Postisdelivereddailyto acentralofficeandiscollectedbyConnaughtstaffandbroughtbacktotheHouse.
PocketMoney
AllYear12and13studentsarerequiredtohavetheirownbankaccountand shouldonlykeepsmallamountsofcashontheirperson.
Theschoolcannotbeheldresponsibleforanymonieslost.Wecancollectyour pocketmoneyandbankitforyoutothensignforweeklywhenyouneedit. MissSummerswillexplainthistoyou.
FireProcedures
Allstudentsmustfamiliarisethemselveswiththedrill,whichthestaffwillinduct andshowwherethefireexitsareinthehouse.
Ifthealarmsounds,youmustleavetheHousethroughthenearestsafeexit. Donotstoptocollectpossessions.
Evacuatethebuildinginsilenceandmakeyourwaytothedesignatedmeeting place.
LineupinsilenceandwaitcalmlyonTheGarthandinYeargroups.Arollcall willbecompleted.
Amemberofstaffwilladvisewhenitissafetore-enterthebuilding. Alwaysfollowinstructionscarefully. Thefirealarmmustalwaysbetreatedseriously.
HealthCare
Thenursingteamprovidesfirstaidandhealthcareforallboarders.Thequalified teamisondutyfrom7:30amuntil4:30pmMondaytoFriday.Thereisalsoan emergencyserviceoncallandallboardersaretoberegisteredattheColneHouse Practice.
Medication:Asaboardingschoolwehave manylegalguidelinesregardingthestorage andadministrationofmedication.
Allmedicationwillbecollectedonyourfirst day,andreturnassoonasNurseBurrows hascheckedit.
Itmustbeprovidedinitsoriginal containershowingtheindividualstudent’s name.
Writtenconsentfromtheparentsand clearadministrativeinstructionsmustbe handedinwiththemedication. Theschoolisunabletoadminister medicationthatdoesnotfollowthepolicy.
SigningInandSigningOut
Ifyouhavepermissiontoleavethesiteduringtheschooldayyoumustsign outoftheHouseandalsoatreception.
IfyouareleavingtheHouseatanyothertimeandforanyreasonyoumust signoutoftheHouseandmustsigninonyourreturn,alwaystellingamember ofstaffwhereyouaregoing.
Nogirlshouldsignanothergirlinoroutforanyreason–thisincludesvisiting anotherHouse,thegym,RCetc.
Girlsgoinghomeoroutfortheweekendmustsignouttoshowtheyhaveleft theschoolsite.Thereisaformyouwillcompleteforthis.
Weeklyboardersorthosewhohavebeenoutfortheweekendmustsigninand sayhellotothememberofstaffondutyintheHouse.
OutingsandVisits
Awidevarietyofactivities,outingsandvisitsareavailableeachtermandare advertisedintheHouse:shouldyouchoosetoparticipatethecostofeachoneis addedtoyourschoolbill.Whilstitisnotcompulsorytoparticipateitisstrongly advisedparticularlyinthefirstterm.Thisprovidesagoodwaytointegrate yourselfintotheBoardingcommunityandmakenewfriends.
Invitations
Ifaboarderisgoingoutfortheweekendwrittenpermissionmustbesoughtfrom yourparentsandaninvitationfromthefamilyyouarevisiting.Thisshouldbe receivedbytheprecedingThursdayandsenttoMissSummers.
HolidayArrangements
AtthebeginningofatermallboardersareexpectedtoreturntotheHousenolater than7pmontheBoardersreturndate.Onyourarrivalpleasesayhellotostaffand makesureyousignin.Parentsarewelcometohelpyoubringyourthingstoyour roombutmustbeaccompaniedatalltimes.Allpassportsanddocumentswillbe collectedandkeptsafe.
Attheendofthetermandhalfterm,youmustpackawayyourroomandleaveit cleanandtidy.Thenightbefore,youmusttakeyoursuitcasesandleavethemin thecommonroomforcollectionthenextday.Internationalstudentswillbegiven theoptionofusingschoolresourcestostoretheirbelongings,whichincludes3 boxes,1largesuitcaseand1duvetbag.AllUK-basedstudentsarerequiredto taketheirbelongingshomewiththem.TheHousewillcloseat6pmonthelastday ofeveryterm.
Athalfterm,thehousewillclosetwohoursaftertheendofschoolandthenreopen at2pmonthehalftermreturn.Atthebeginningandendofaholidayoneofthe boardinghouseswillbethe‘DutyHouse’andwillacceptgirlsarrivingonearly morningflightsandwillaccommodategirlsleavinglater,upto6pmonthelastday ofthehalftermorendofterm.
TaxiArrangements
Ifyourequireataxiforhalftermormainschoolholidaytravel,pleasecomplete therequiredgoogleform.Pleasedothisbythedeadlinesothatwecanbook enoughcars.Weusealocalfirm,‘RCCExecutiveTravel’,whoprovideDBSchecked driversandafullyescortedservice.
InternationalStudents
Ifyouareaninternationalstudent,yourparentsorguardiansmustprovideyour holidayarrangementdetailstoMissSummers.Datesforthiswillbegiven.Thisis sothatalldocumentationcanbecompletedandsenttotheschooloffice.
Youmusthandinyourpassport,includingboardingcards,toMissSummersor MrsDennisonyourreturn,evenifyouhavestayedintheUKforthedurationofthe holiday.Aphotocopyofyourpassportwillbetakenfortheschoolrecords.
BoardingCommunityGatherings
WhilstwedonothaveaformalChapelserviceeverySunday,wedocometogether asaBoardingcommunityforaGatheringlastingapprox30mins.TheGathering couldbeashortrecitalgivenbytheBoarders,awalkintheschoolgrounds, mindfulnessyoga,adancelessonetc.Youwillbeexpectedtoattendformal servicessuchastheRemembranceService,AdventServiceandBoarders CelebrationService.
Sanctions
ArelationshipoftrustbetweenSixthFormboardersandtheirHousemistressis vital.SixthFormboardersaregivenconsiderablefreedomaspartoftheir preparationforlifebeyondschool.
Weprideourselvesthatitisunnecessarytolaydownastrictcodeofbehaviourfor studentsofthisage,beyondourexpectationsofyoureturningtotheHouseontime andobservingcommonsenseabouthowyoubalanceyourworkandleisuretime. Housestaffwilltalkopenlytoyouabouttheirexpectations,andwill,inconjunction withyourteachersandtheHeadofSixthForm,supportyoutodevelopgoodstudy habits.
