Kristin White Specific learning disabilities teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School “Dante, come join us, we need your help” and “I can’t wait to see everyone’s finished poster” are just a few of the encouraging and empowering phrases White uses during a recent class focused on designing graphs to present research students completed on roller coasters. A bundle of energy, White engages her students with questions, often answering a student question with one of her own. As students move seamlessly between individual and group work, she expresses genuine joy at their results, “I like that!” and “What a great title!” She reinforces their positive behaviors by subtly mentioning what she observes and handing the student a neon-green reward ticket. “My students are my inspiration,” White says. “I provide strategies to help them be successful, empowering them to be problem solvers and teaching them problems are speed bumps, not walls. It is the aha moments reflected on their faces that make me love being an educator.”

Un paquete de energía, White ocupa a sus estudiantes con preguntas, a menudo respondiendo a una pregunta de los estudiantes con una propia. A medida que los estudiantes se mueven sin problemas entre el trabajo individual y el trabajo en grupo, ella expresa alegría genuina por sus resultados, “¡Me gusta eso!” Y “¡Qué gran título!” Ella refuerza sus comportamientos positivos mencionando sutilmente lo que observa y entregándole al estudiante un boleto verde neón de recompensa. “Mis estudiantes son mi inspiración”, dice White. “Proporciono estrategias para ayudarles a ser exitosos, capacitándolos para que sean solucionadores de problemas y enseñarles que los problemas son baches en el camino, no paredes. Son los momentos de ajá que se reflejan en sus rostros lo que me hace encantar ser educadora”.
