Spring 2025

A Letter from

To the Spring 2025 Graduating Class,

Firstly, congratulations on achieving this incredible milestone in your educational journey. Whether you come from a long lineage of academics, or you are the first in your family to obtain a degree: this is an accomplishment you deserve to be proud of.

In my time as Student Body President I have had the privilege of sending off remarks for graduates each semester, but this letter hits incredibly close to home as I am also graduating in the Spring. We are all accustomed to hearing the cliche, especially during our first year that “These four years will pass by incredibly fast”, but until now I have never fully appreciated the truth in that phrase. In your time here at CSU, you have made lifelong friendships, experienced incredible intrapersonal growth, and have become a more well-rounded citizen of the world. Because of this, I am confident that your time at Colorado State has prepared you to take on the challenges you will face as you enter the professional world or as you continue your academic career.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve ever received did not come from a class lecture, but rather from country music legend Reba McEntire – and it is something I try to remind myself of regularly. Despite what you may have learned in anatomy, there are really only three important bones in the body: the backbone, the wishbone, and the funny bone. A backbone ensures that you can stay strong in your convictions, a wishbone helps push you to think beyond what’s conventional, and your funny bone allows you to find humor in the little things – something especially important when life throws a curveball your way.

When you inevitably encounter these curveballs, I encourage you to take advice from a Ram. Stare up at steep heights that seem insurmountable, find your footing, and move. Keep charging forward, and as always: GO RAMS!

Nick DeSalvo

LSC GRADUATES CONGRATULATIONS

How to Celebrate Your

You made it to graduation, and it’s time to revel in your success. Throw a party, go to a concert, or have a cozy night in with a movie. There are tons of ways to commemorate your remarkable achievement. Let us help you figure out how to celebrate!

IT’S PARTY TIME!

Bring together your favorite people to throw a party all about you! Set up tables, decorate with balloons and streamers, and get festive. Make it memorable with a photo booth with fun props, a delicious spread, and get on aux! With some planning and creativity, your graduation party could be a celebration you’ll never forget.

SPEND QUALITY TIME

If parties aren’t your thing, don’t worry. There are plenty of other ways to celebrate your achievement. Do the things that you enjoy. Go to a concert, see a play, have a spa day, go for a hike, or get brunch with close friends and family. It’s important that commemorating your success is a celebration that you enjoy. With a non-traditional celebration, you can avoid the small talk and hassle of a party while still spending quality time with those you love.

DO NOTHING

If you’re not in the mood to celebrate at all, then don’t! Instead, bask in your accomplishments and go about your day. Celebrating should make you feel happy. So if not celebrating at all feels right, that is valid. Acknowledge the hard work and dedication that went into earning your degree – graduating is no small feat.

TRAVEL

Grab your bags, chase a new horizon, and get traveling! You deserve a break after all your hard work and what better way to unwind than traveling? Whether it’s a road trip to a national park, a weekend getaway to the mountains, or a week-long trip to the coastline, traveling can help you catch up on much-needed rest while letting you check something off your bucket list. This can be especially valuable if you’re about to start a new job and want to take some time off before diving into the next chapter of your life.

TREAT YOURSELF

Take a break from the responsibilities of life and treat yourself. Indulge in some well-deserved self care. Whether that means going on a shopping spree at the mall, driving to your favorite tunes at Horsetooth Reservoir, or making your favorite comfort food before settling in to watch a movie, a day to yourself may be what you need after graduation. This time is to celebrate you, so do what brings you joy.

of Changes to Campus

Over the past four years it has been incredible to see all the changes that have come along since you first arrived at Colorado State University.

CLARK REVITALIZATION AND GROUNDBREAKING

In the heart of campus, the Clark Building revitalization is underway. Originally constructed in 1968, the Clark Building is one of the most utilized buildings on campus. Regardless of their major, 99% of Colorado State University students will take at least one class in Clark during their academic career. On April 25, 2022, the College of Liberal Arts received funding from state legislation and the governor to begin the revitalization, and on October 30, 2024, CSU broke ground, kicking the renovations into high gear.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF CHRISTMAN FIELD IMPROVEMENTS

In October of 2024, the Colorado 2nd Congressional District Rep. Joe Neguse presented Colorado State University with $500,000 to renovate the Christman Airfield. This facility will support the protection of Colorado’s natural areas and provide an updated location for aerial firefighting and emergency management. Along with this, the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering will also be able to better train the future UAS pilots and further develop new technologies related to aerial imagery.

NEW VET COMPLEX

On April 30, 2024, CSU broke ground on a new $230 million expansion of the veterinary medicine facilities on campus. With over 213,000 square feet, two state-of-the-art classrooms, and eight new high-tech exam simulation rooms, CSU continues to raise the bar for advancing modern practices in veterinary medicine. This well-rounded facility will set CSU at one of the highest-ranked veterinary medicine schools in the country.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW AI ENGINEERING FACILITY

At the 2024 president’s Fall Address and University Picnic, CSU announced plans to develop the Don and Susie Law Engineering Future Technologies Building. With $110 million donated, this new building will replace Glover Hall, allowing admission of an additional 700 enrollees by 2032. This new building will have a focus on artificial intelligence and digital engineering, providing future CSU students the opportunity to receive some of the best engineering education in the country.

More Than a

Green isn’t just a color at Colorado State University; it’s a way of life for students, faculty, and staff. Sustainability has continuously proven to be the foundation of CSU’s academics, research, and service. The university’s unwavering commitment to sustainability consistently ranks CSU among the top sustainable academic institutions in the country.

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education recognized CSU’s sustainability efforts with four consecutive platinum statuses under their Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System, which evaluates the sustainability efforts of 1,225 campuses worldwide. CSU’s four consecutive platinum awards highlight its dedication to environmentally friendly measures. The association also gave CSU a perfect score in engagement. This includes both curriculum and research focusing on sustainability.

Along with CSU’s platinum ratings, the university has garnered recognition for its environmental contributions. CSU secured a spot in Sierra Club’s Top 20 Cool Schools 2021 for recognition of its sustainable practices. The Princeton Review also included CSU in its 2024 Green College Honor Roll alongside only 45 other schools nationwide. This is CSU’s 11th consecutive year earning a perfect score in its Green Rating System. Since 2018 CSU continues to be an official affiliate of Bee Campus USA, recognizing the university’s pollinator-friendly gardens and student-managed apiaries. Today, CSU remains the only university in Colorado with a “Bee Campus Certified” distinction.

These impressive accolades are rooted in the university’s sustainability-focused programs and initiatives. One is the Ram Food Recovery Program, which has distributed food to campus communities since 2017 and reduced food waste. To further reduce waste, the Student Sustainability Center kickstarted the Patchwork Initiative in 2022 to help students repair worn clothing instead of discarding it. The university also introduced Sustainability Curriculum Innovation Grants, which fund proposals to create new academic courses on sustainability or integrate sustainability into existing ones. CSU doesn’t plan to stop there. The administration’s formation of the Climate Action Plan works to make CSU a 100% renewable energy institution by 2030 and complete carbon neutrality by 2040.

How Far a CSU Degree Can Take You

Colorado State University degrees are known for propelling graduates to success across a multitude of fields. Whether you’re an engineer or singer, athlete or comedian, your degree can get you there. Here are three remarkable alumni whose journeys prove just how far you can go.

Leslie Jones

The renowned comedian and actress, Leslie Jones, is a CSU alumna with a B.A. in communications and is best known for her Writer’s Guild Award and NAACP Award nomination for her work on Saturday Night Live. As a three-time Emmy nominee, MTV Movie Award winner, People’s Choice Award nominee, and one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, Jones is far from the end of her career. Wrapping up her book tour, “Leslie F*cking Jones,” this past March, everyone can’t wait to see what Jones will do next.

Kjell Lindgren

Dr. Lindgren, originally from Taiwan, earned an M.S. in cardiovascular physiology at CSU and completed his residency training in both emergency and aerospace medicine. First joining NASA in 2007 as a flight surgeon, he was selected as an astronaut just two years later. Since then, Lindgren has participated in 2 space walks, over a hundred scientific experiments and a total of 311 days in space. Now, he serves as the Deputy Director of the Flight Operations Directorate for NASA.

Ram and

Undie Run

Every year on the Friday before finals week in the spring semester, thousands of CSU students gather to run across campus in their underwear. Even when faced with backlash from administration, the tradition continues and allows students to blow off steam.

Ram Band

For the past 22 years, CSU students have been able to go bar hopping between 3 different bars for just $12 on Thursday nights. This affordable tradition allows CSU students to connect with their peers and their community.

Fight Song

Fight on you stalwart Ram Team, On to the Goal! Tear the (opponent’s) line asunder, As down the field we thunder. Knights of the green and gold, Fight with all your might! Fight on you starwalt Ram team, Fight! X3, Go Rams!

1968 Beer-In

Ramskeller Pub first opened in 1969 after CSU students held a “Beer-In” and protested for their right to drink on campus. They proposed that beer should be sold in the coffee shop of the LSC, which is now Ramskeller, the only on-campus bar at CSU.

CAM The Ram

CAM’s name Stands for “Colorado Agriculture and Mechanical” College. This was the previous name of CSU until 1957.

History In Color

Out with the orange and in with the new, CSU’s original colors were pumpkin orange and alfalfa green when university students were the Aggies. Now, being a ram at CSU means dressing up in green and gold for game day.

Hail to thee, our Alma Mater, Colorado State. Memories are everlasting of this place so great! May thy green and gold unite us, loyal ever be. Colorado State, our Alma Mater, Hail, all hail, to thee.

I Love CSU Day

On April 18, 2023, the governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, signed a proclamation declaring April 18 as “I Love CSU Day” across Colorado. This tradition leads to events all day and special deals across campus and all throughout Fort Collins.

The Oval

Designed in 1909, the Oval has since been the heart of the CSU campus. It was designed to connect the main campus to historic buildings like Johnson Hall, the original Student Center.

How Helps Students

You probably wondered why you should purchase the Alumni Association Annual Membership when you bought your cap and gown. This membership allows you access to valuable resources, including career assistance after graduation. All alumni are eligible for an individual consultation with an alumni career coach and two additional coaching sessions. If you purchase the membership, you can use these services for an entire year after graduation.

If you didn’t utilize the CSU Career Center resources while a student, there’s no better time to use them than after graduation. The Career Center provides interview preparation, resume editing, mental health support, and resources for LGBTQIA+ job seekers. The best part is, career advising is free for all alumni. Along with this, the university hosts career fairs tailored to alumni. You can find the schedule for upcoming career fairs on the alumni association website.

For those looking for professional development opportunities, CSU has you covered. CSU offers a series of webinars for alumni to support graduates in their personal and professional lives. These webinars cover various topics, such as salary negotiations and time management. You can also access past webinar recordings on the alumni association website if you cannot attend a live session.

Staying connected with other CSU alumni can promote personal and professional growth postgraduation. Across the United States, alumni have access to 16 different Ram Networks to provide a sense of community and camaraderie for alumni sharing Ram Pride. With different resources that connect alumni to networking events, community service projects, and game-watch parties, there are countless opportunities for alumni to connect and engage with their fellow Rams.

CSU’s commitment to students goes far beyond graduation day. As a CSU alum, you’ll have access to the resources and support you need to thrive in both your personal and professional life. Whether you want to stay connected with your fellow Rams through one of the Ram Networks or use the CSU Career Center’s free career advising, there are plenty of opportunities to continue your success long after you’ve left campus. Don’t be afraid to reach out and take advantage of all that CSU offers.

Advice for

It’s normal to feel a little lost on where to start your post-grad life.

Many CSU graduates have felt the same way, and it’s ok not to have everything figured out right away. Here’s some advice from those who have been there, done that.

IT’S OK NOT TO HAVE IT FIGURED OUT

When we were younger, we thought adults had everything figured out, but it turns out we don’t. While the unknown can be overwhelming, it’s also an opportunity for new experiences and living the life you want to. It’s ok to not know what your plan is right away; no one really knows anyways.

LEARN TO SAY “NO”

Saying “no” isn’t rude; in fact, it’s kind. It’s necessary to protect your time and energy. Saying “no” allows you to set boundaries and prioritize your needs so when you aren’t burnt out, you have the energy to say yes to all the things you want to.

BE COMFORTABLE WITH BEING UNCOMFORTABLE

ASK QUESTIONS

Parts of life are uncomfortable, especially when you take risks, try new things, or meet new people. But it’s inevitable and normal even; you shouldn’t be discouraged from venturing outside of your comfort zone. When you embrace the discomfort, it gets easier, and why not see where it takes you?

Asking questions may make you feel insignificant or ignorant, but it’s a sign that you’re learning! No one knows everything, and neither do you, so there’s no need to expect perfection from yourself. Ask all your questions and seek advice and new insights; it’s the only way to find out.

SELF-CARE IS IMPORTANT

The shift from college life to graduation to full-time work can be a challenge, so it’s crucial to take care of yourself. Whether trying out that new recipe, firing up a relaxing bubble bath, goofing around with friends, or catching up on some much-needed rest, finding ways to recharge is crucial for your mental and physical health. Self-care isn’t a luxury but a necessity for thriving in your new routine.

CONTINUE LEARNING

College doesn’t mark the end of your journey of learning. No, not grad school; there are more ways to learn than within the constraints of traditional academia. Find community clubs and classes for a hobby you’ve always wanted to try, or join a community athletic club; your opportunities to continue growing are endless.

FAILURE IS PERFECTLY NORMAL

You’re supposed to fail, and it’s normal to be upset after, but don’t dwell on it too long. Stay open to criticism because failure is a chance to grow and get better. You’ll succeed at some point, but only if you keep going, because every everyday is a great day; remember that.

BStriking Work-Life Balance at your New Gig

SET CLEAR BOUNDARIES

Strive to keep work at the office, making your home a stress-free and relaxing haven. Discuss your workload and deadlines with colleagues and supervisors, providing transparency about your capacity for new assignments and projects. Turn your workplace into an environment where everyone’s got each other’s backs!

ESTABLISH A ROUTINE

Crafting a well-structured daily routine is like giving your day a game plan. Establish fixed work hours, incorporate breaks, and carve out space for activities you enjoy. Start your day with uplifting morning rituals and cap it off with relaxing evening routines. Those breaks sprinkled throughout are the secret weapon against burnout.

SET REALISTIC GOALS

Instead of chasing perfection, set your sights on achievable milestones that align with your current workload. Shrink big tasks into bite-sized ones, providing a stairway to success one step at a time. Feel free to tweak them as circumstances or priorities shift.

UNPLUG AND INVEST

Designate time to unplug from the work grind, especially during evenings and weekends. Mute those email notifications—give them a little vacation, too—and resist the siren call of work messages. Selfcare isn’t just on the to-do list; it’s non-negotiable in your routine! Schedule activities that refuel your tank, whether a workout, a good book, or quality hangouts with friends.

EVALUATE AND ADJUST

Time for a self-check-in! Consider your current situation—work, personal life, the whole shebang. How are your daily routines and strategies? Are you doing a victory lap or feeling caught in a tornado? Feel free to change your goals and strategies based on what life has been dishing out lately. What worked like magic in one phase of life might need some tweaking in the next.

CONG RATU LATION S

TO EACH OF OUR 2 025 GRAD UATES !

What Says About You in

Congratulations, Class of 2025! You’ve earned your degree despite everything the world has thrown at you—take a moment to pat yourself on the back. Here are a few things that graduating this year says about you.

YOU’RE DETERMINED

The class of 2025 has certainly faced its fair share of challenges, including the pandemic, an uncertain job market, and financial doubt. But you didn't let any of that stop you! You persisted and pushed through, proving you're a force to be reckoned with. You know how to take on the world, no matter what it throws your way.

YOU’RE TECHNOLOGICALLY SAVVY

You’ve become a pro at navigating the digital landscape! From Zoom calls to online lectures, you’ve conquered it all with your newfound computer skills. Maybe you’ve even unlocked the secret to fixing the printer when it’s acting up (we still can’t figure that out). Employers will be lining up to find someone as adaptable and tech-savvy as you.

YOU’RE FLEXIBLE

You’ve stayed cool, calm, and collected even when everything around you was in chaos. Whether navigating online classes, dealing with unexpected roadblocks, or adjusting to sociopolitical changes, you always find a way to adapt and come out on top.

YOU’RE ENTHUSIASTIC

YOU’RE A HARD WORKER

You’ve proven you’re not afraid to buckle down and get things done, no matter the setbacks. You crushed your studies, stayed motivated through thick and thin, and tackled problems like a pro. No wonder you’re walking away with that degree in your hand!

Despite the crazy obstacles, you stayed on track and never lost sight of your goals. It takes serious passion and optimism to push through as you did. Your graduation wasn’t a stroke of luck – it resulted from your unbridled enthusiasm for learning and growing.
