THE WORLD ROAD ASSOCIATION (PIARC ITALY) - WHICH HAS ACTED AS TALENT SCOUT OF THREE INNOVATIVE PROJECTS - DOES THAT THANKS TO THE COOPERATION WITH LESTRADE. THEMATIC AREAS: ROAD SAFETY, MOBILITY MANAGEMENT AND PRODUCT MONITORING.

iarc, has always been the collecting point for road knowledge but wants today to take a role as promoter of technical innovations which are proposed by the Italian entrepreneurial sector. One of the problems we’ve often have to cope with when dealing with small Italian entrepreneurial realities that have developed innovative products in the road field is the difficulty of letting their product emerge and have the necessary visibility for launching products that could be very useful both for infrastructures stake holders and the road user. Bearing this in mind, we have pin pointed three projects that we deem worthy to be illustrated in the hope that the work of these resourceful innovator receive the right acknowledgement and the necessary visibility for the next steps of production and implementation. These three projects concern road safety, urban mobility and technical surveys on infrastructures.

Signal device for movements in the wrong direction in order to increase safety The first project we want to introduce is SIS Italy (www.sis-italy.com) which arises from the desire of contributing to improve road safety through new ideas and initiatives. Road accidents in the wrong direction of the road are constantly increasing and cause yearly a relevant number of casualties.To give an idea of this phenomenon, it is sufficient to think that the ASAPS observatory on accident in the wrong direction has monitored and catalogued 309 episodes totaling 21 casualties and 164 blessed and only in the first half of 2014 has registered 234 episodes totaling 21 casualties and 75 injured. On our web site www.aipcr.it we had published an article on the subject of driving on the wrong direction of the road. In the last years, different methods have been adopted in order to face the problem: signaling increase, photoelectrical barrier devices that, nonetheless, proved insufficient to solve this dangerous phenomenon. Following an intuition that became object of studies, project and realization of the first prototypes, SIS Italy has developed “Safe Inlet� a road security device aiming at contrasting driving on the road direction of the road. Safe Inlet is a new road safety device which acknowledged the international patent. Safe Inlet has been conceived in order to contrast effectively and actively the driving on the wrong side of the road. Safe Inlet is to be installed on exit carriageways of highways and motorways, on entry carriageways of service areas and on all those highly critical points related to this kind of problem. This device has a neutral behavior meaning that it is not perceived by the driver and the other car passengers if the vehicle is on the correct lane. In case of driving on the wrong lane of the road the system starts up and signals the wrong inlet through a rebound which is clearly perceived by the driver and the vehicle passengers. Safe Inlet could be a valid solution, simple and cheap, to reduce the serious accidents due to driving on the wrong side of the road along roads and motorways. 10/2015 leStrade
