MAKING IT IN EUROPE The Committee for European Construction Equipment (CECE) is the umbrella organisation of the European construction equipment associations. The CECE represents about 1,200 companies from 13 countries which together generate revenues of about € 24 billion and employ 130,000 people. Within the framework of the CECE Congress, representatives of the European construction equipment industry meet every two years to exchange ideas and experiences. The Congress took place in Berlin this year and it was chaired by Johann Sailer, the President of CECE. Mr Sailer runs the medium-sized company GEDA-Dechentreiter GmbH & Co.KG which is based in Germany. The slogan of this year CECE Congress was “Making it in Europe”: Selected speakers from the global business environment discussed in their subsequent contributions the development of the construction equipment sector over the last few years and ventured the first forecasts for the economic outlook in Europe. Environmental and sustainability aspects were also discussed. The strengthening of Europe as a production site has always remained a focal point. EC 521

AFTER THE STORM 8 www.abcmagazine.eu

The Northeast is cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, and Komptech is there with machines to help, like their Crambo and Terminator shredders. Komptech machines are already working on cleanup, and their area dealers are ready to supply all additional equipment needed. In detail Terminator is a slow-running, single-shaft shredder for all types of waste. Robust teeth on the shredding rotor and the opposing counter comb give coarse pre-crushing to a defined shredding size. The continuous cutting gap adjustment allows for precise setting of the particle size for subsequent process steps. The hydraulic drive with load-dependent speed control ensures maximum utilization of the engine output. The hook lift platform, 3-axle chassis and steel tracks with hydraulic drive options provide excellent mobility. The Crambo dual-shaft shredder shreds all types of wood and green waste to a fixed particle size. EC 522

EFFICIENT PROGRESS The new cooling tower upgrade in the Šoštanj power plant is progressing with innovative formwork solutions from Doka. The high-performance cooling tower formwork SK175 is reliable technology in place to ensure speedy progress on site. The lignite-fired power plant in Šoštanj generates about one third of Slovenia’s electricity and it is currently being upgraded in line with future challenges. The new 600 MW Unit 6 moves utility company and operator TES into the future of stable energy supply. Unit 6’s cooling tower is the most prominent feature of the new power-plant infrastructure: 32 inclined columns carry the tower’s outer shell. Beam formwork Top 50 is being used as large-area formwork on this build. H20 timber formwork beams and Dokaplex formwork sheets were the main component parts, combined as a versatile and speedy solution for the first phase of construction.Doka's Ready-to-Use Service had this outer-shell first ring, measuring some 93 m in diameter, on site and waiting right on time. SK175 is worked off this ring.
