ROUNDABOUT: Wagga Wagga City Council Director Strategy & Projects Phil McMurray at the intersection of Holbrook Road and Dunns Road where a roundabout will be installed over the coming months. The aim of the roundabout is to improve safety for motorists at the intersection. Residents and motorists who travel through Springvale are advised there will be roadworks occurring at the intersection of Holbrook Road and Dunns Road over the coming months. The works involve the installation of a roundabout at the intersection which aims to increase safety. There will be road closures and detours in place for the duration of the works, which are expected to commence on Monday 13 November, continuing into early 2024, weather permitting. Holbrook Road will remain open to northbound and southbound traffic throughout the project, with restrictions in place. Road closures will be in place on the eastern and western sides of the intersection; traffic to and from Dunns Road and Lloyd Road will be via detours. Traffic west of Holbrook Road (from Dunns Road) will be diverted via Currawang Drive and Mirbelia Drive. Traffic east of Holbrook Road (from Lloyd Road) will be diverted via Mallee Road, Springvale Drive and Featherwood Drive. Wagga Wagga City Council Director Strategy & Projects Phil McMurray said the roundabout will improve driving conditions at the intersection.

Wagga Wagga City Council is calling on community and tourism businesses to share their bold and brilliant ideas to help build tourism in Wagga Wagga. Council is developing a draft Destination Management Plan (DMP), the first of its kind for the local government area, and is seeking community and industry feedback to help shape this strategy. Through this shared vision, the DMP will provide a unique roadmap for Wagga Wagga to develop and grow its tourism potential for the next 10 years. Council's Destination and Events Coordinator Kimberly Parker said it will be a unique opportunity for community and industry to share their ideas to influence the role the future visitor economy of Wagga Wagga plays in the region, the State and the country. “As a destination, Wagga Wagga has its own story to share,” Ms Parker said. “Some of that story is already being shared in meaningful ways, through our nature-based attractions and experiences, our prospering food and wine scene, and our vibrant calendar of events. “What we are keen to reveal through this inclusive, consultative process is what the economic and tourism potential of our city looks like. “We want to explore all opportunities for growth and reveal any new opportunities to develop tourism, events and supporting industries.” The final strategy will strengthen Wagga Wagga’s tourism profile with the aim of increasing the number of visitors, their length of stay, as well as their dispersal through the region for the economic and social benefit of our community. Multicultural Photography Exhibition acknowledges Azadi (freedom) A photography exhibition by multicultural youth opened at the Wagga Wagga City Library this week, acknowledging freedom. The exhibition is titled Azadi, which means freedom. This title was selected by the group because Azadi is a shared word across the first languages of all group members.

Opportunities for regional artists at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery Local artists are encouraged to apply for Wagga Wagga Art Gallery’s Regional Artist Development (RAD) Program to become an artist in residence or to exhibit in 2024. Mentored exhibition and residency opportunities are available for local artists and curators who are ready to take their creative practice and professional profile to a new level. The RAD program offers four onemonth-long residencies which include a spacious studio environment within the Gallery and mentoring from Gallery staff.

The multicultural youth group was established as a partnership program between Wagga Wagga City Library and STARTTS (Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors). The program is aimed at young people aged 18-25 years from refugee backgrounds. The group has recently been learning photography skills, serving not only as a medium for artistic expression but as a catalyst for building connections with others, fostering a sense of community, and underscores the transformative power of art as a force for positive change. Each group member has two photographs in the exhibition which highlight the challenges they have faced, and the hope that their new home in Wagga Wagga provides. Council’s Multicultural Services Officer Maryanne Gray says working with the Multicultural Youth Group is a positive experience for all. “I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching photography skills to these enthusiastic and lovely young people,” Ms Gray said. “This youth group transcends any language barriers; their happiness is infectious, and they are all very supportive and accepting of each other. It’s good vibes all round!” The sentiment is shared by STARTTS Wagga Wagga Youth Worker Kellie Chapman. The program offers opportunities for artists to explore themes and stories relevant to the local community. The Gallery particularly welcomes applications from First Nations artists and from early career artists. Wagga Wagga Art Gallery Director Dr Lee-Anne Hall said the RAD program has been developed to support artists and the creative community of the Riverina to succeed in reaching new audiences. “The residencies are a great opportunity for local and regional artists to develop their arts practice, connect with the community while they develop new work, and receive support from Gallery staff,” Dr Hall said. “When the creative community is vibrant and flourishing, the whole community benefits; we see our experiences and connection to place reflected in the art.” The Gallery is again partnering with Earth Canvas in 2024 to offer an artist a residency on a regenerative farm followed by the studio residency. “The collaboration with Earth Canvas offers the opportunity for an interested artist to extend their engagement with themes of healthy landscapes, soil, food and a healthy planet,” Dr Hall said. Elaine Camlin is the current artist in residence at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and will be spending her time reconnecting to her creative practice. “This RAD opportunity has provided much-needed headspace for me to develop and explore my identity as a practising artist, through the 7.30PM – 8.10PM
