Miss Donegal crowned in Letterkenny

NEWSINBRIEF AGM The Annual General Meeting of the Ballybofey, Stranorlar and District Historical Society will take place on Monday, May 23 at 8pm, in the Henderson Hall, Stranorlar. Items on the Agenda are planning for Heritage Week and finalising the Society’s Day Trip to Fort Dunree and the Famine Village at the Isle of Doagh. Everyone welcome.

Burt car boot sale

Bargains galore will be in store in St. Mary’s Hall in Burt on Saturday, May 21. Sale starts at 10.30am until 3pm. Proceeds from hire of tables will go to the upkeep of hall. Doors will only open to the public at 10.30am to give us time to set up. A large variety of items will be on offer.

Annual pilgrimage

The Annual Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Venerable Matt Talbot Dublin takes place this year on Sunday, June 12. Buses will depart from the county at 8am from both Stranorlar via Convoy, Raphoe, Lifford and from Kilmacrennan via Letterkenny and Lifford. Total cost €50 which includes, transport, lunch in Dublin and light meal in Castleblaney on way to and from Dublin. After a prestigious final held in the Raddison Blu Letterkenny, Miss Donegal 2016 has been crowned. LYIT student nurse, Grainne Gallanagh, (21) from Buncrana claimed the coveted title by unamiomous decision. There was a total of 27 girls that reached the final, this was then broken down to 15 girls, then final seven girls. There

was no bikini round in this selection process, as this round has been removed by the Miss World organisation. Grainne will now go to the Miss Ireland 2016 final being held in Dublin in late August. Church Lane, Letterkenny, has kindly offered Miss Donegal 2016 unlimited Hair and Makeup for all Promotional events associated with Miss Donegal and Miss Ireland 2016. Plus unlimited membership to Fit Hub Ireland Ltd, Letterkenny and one to one nutrition with Neil Barrett MSc. The Tipsy Nail Bar, Letterkenny has sponsored the girl with deluxe gel nail extensions, plus a deluxe pedicure. The most Glamourous attendee was Sally O’Donnell, Letterkenny. O’Donnell, Derry. Miss Congeniality was Michaela Bradley, Buncrana. Best Smile was Emma O’Donnell, Letterkenny. Best Hair was Rebecca Nicell, Derry. The raffle winner of the twonight break for two to Prague, courtesy of Liberty Travel Letterkenny, was won by Deirdre Crossan-McShane, from Buncrana. MCs for the night were brother and sister, Davitt and Aoibheann Walsh, who entertained the crowd superbly. The Judges for the evening were Dearbhla Walsh, the current Miss Earth Northern

Ireland, (another Walsh sibling), also Nicola McLaughlin (The Sequin Cinderella), Zara McDaid,(Fashion Blogger) Emma Murray (The Fashion Chair), Tim Jackson (local Politician), and Jay Doherty (Northern Ireland Photographer of the Year 2016). Live entertainment was provided on the night by Jacqui Sharkey who performed three of her songs that are on her current album. Maria McCormick also performed songs from her album. Shane Flood played the accordion. A thoroughly entertaining night was had by all.
