SPORT SUNCROFT GAA
Suncroft GFC looks forward to a new season SUNCROFT GFC WAS founded in 1889 and has enjoyed a long history of football success at all levels in Kildare since. Many players have even gone on to county level such is the dedication and talent in the club. Suncroft’s Paul Doyle was selected on Kildare’s Gaelic football team of the millennium and in more recent years, Anthony Rainbow and Killian Brennan were household names that hailed from Suncroft GFC. Suncroft’s Fionn Dowling is on the current Kildare senior football panel and while the senior teams are the flagships for county and club, in 2014, some sixteen other
Suncroft GFC players (ladies and gents) represented the club and the community at county level. There were some fantastic personal (17 players representing the club and community at county level) and team achievements at all levels in 2014 (6 division, championship wins) but for the club by far the biggest achievement was that over 240 members represented it and the community on the pitch. This is a big number for a small rural club but it was up on previous years. One of the club’s main ambitions, is to keep this number growing.

Troy Electrical Ltd. wish Suncroft GAA every success for the coming year
In 2014 Suncroft GFC celebrated its 125th year in existence and while the club enjoyed looking back, acknowledged and celebrating what had gone before the focus in the club is firmly fixed on the future. The Club was given a huge boost last year with the building of a new community centre beside it. Now, dressing rooms, toilets, meeting rooms, kitchen and more will be available to Suncroft’s footballers and visitors with the imminent opening of the Centre. Construction of a children’s playground beside the centre will start shortly and open by the summer. On the pitch front great progress has been made in recent times and with a combination of long term lease, purchase and donation, Suncroft GFC now has a permanent home in the heart of Suncroft village with approx. 12 acres of land for pitches. A process of consultation with club members and the community will commence shortly to ensure this land is developed appropriately over the next number of years and put to the best possible use for Suncroft GFC and for the community that the club serves. Suncroft’s 2014 season was closed at an award ceremony on Sunday, 11th Jan where the under 13 boys received their South Board League Division with three winning medals; the under 14 boys received their Feile C Championship winning medals and the under 16 lads received their League Division five winning medals. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, parents and guardian. Particular congratulations to Adam Tolbot who was Suncroft’s 2014 young player of the year and he received the ‘Michael Lawless Trophy’. Presentations to the under 12 boys who won the League Division 1, the minor girls who won the League Division 2B shield and the under 13 girls who won the League 4 had taken place during 2014. As part of the presentation event, the Club took the opportunity to kick off 2015 season in a good direction. Wayne Midleton, a health and fitness professional, gave the young players and parents a talk on healthy training, fun and good dietary practices. This type of focus should help improve the football but more importantly getting the young and growing players to do age appropriate exercise only, to adapt good dietary habits and to have fun while doing it will help deliver lifelong health benefits for then.
