The Skills We Aren’t Taught, And How You Can Expand Your Leadership Through Leveraging Them RITA MCGRATH / THOUGHT SPARKS
Our leadership models are changing – from command and control to questioning and discovery. You can learn to develop these skills and improve your capability as a leader.
- RITA MCGRATH Brief:

All competitive advantages have a life cycle. There’s the period during which a new advantage is created – through innovation, acquisition, mergers or whatever. Then there is the period when we get to exploit an existing advantage – in other words, a profitable business is in place and our job is to operate it. Then, when an advantage is exhausted, there is the task of transforming the business to operate on the next advantage or risk it becoming irrelevant. Here’s the problem – we aren’t taught the skills of innovation or transformation.

As part of LinkedIn Learning’s thought leadership program, I’ve developed a session that takes you through the principles of becoming a new kind of leader. It’s about creating the conditions for permissionless behavior, architecting rich flows of information, and building on leading indicators.

A brand-new offering from LinkedIn learning

Our conventional view of leadership is that leaders have the answers and so can tell us what to do. But in today’s rapidly changing and uncertain world, nobody has the answers. I mean, I can’t tell you what’s going to happen in two weeks, let alone two years! We need a different way of thinking about what leaders do. In this new program from LinkedIn learning, you’ll learn some of the principles of discovery driven leadership.

This is a little taster of some of the topics I’ll cover in the program. It will also cover strategic inflection points, permissionless organizational structures, the challenge of healthy disengagement, using the right metrics and building a career that is a lattice, not a ladder.

And much more!
