From small steps to larger projects, we are working on multiple ways of supporting our carbon reduction targets. Here are just five things we’re doing to be more sustainable:
We have solar panels on our main building, sports centre and our new student accommodation, which have generated over 96.75mwh of electricity to date. The solar panels on our student accommodation alone have saved 18,681kg of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of planting 1,130 trees.
We have switched our disposable food packaging to eco-friendly alternatives.
To help minimise our carbon footprint, as well as ensuring delicious food, we source locally grown/produced produce for our refectory wherever possible.
We have begun to replace our older diesel-fuelled cars with electric vehicles.
As a student with us, you’ll have the opportunity to gain new qualifications in sustainability as part of your chosen course. This enhanced knowledge of sustainability practices will be invaluable in your career.
Everyone learns in different ways, which is why we use a range of teaching methods to make sure that you are ready for your next steps, whether that’s going on to higher level study or starting your career.
You’ll make sure your theoretical knowledge is spot on in classroom sessions, before gaining practical experience on and off campus. Mandatory industry placements are integrated into some of our courses, but we encourage all students to take part in work experience and extra-curricular activities to deepen their knowledge, experience and skill sets.
Most of our full-time courses include three or four days on campus, including lectures, seminars, on campus work experience, practical sessions, tutorials and time for independent study. You will also need to factor in time for independent study outside of these days, at home or on campus.

We offer a range of different course levels across all our subject areas to suit your needs and previous qualifications. We know that understanding the different levels can be confusing, which is why we’ve listed them overleaf for you to understand the differences.
Often the main differences between our courses is the awarding body we use, such as BTEC, City & Guilds or Pearson. Regardless of the awarding body, the levels are equivalent to each other.
Each of our courses has specific entry requirements that vary depending on the level and subject you are wanting to apply for. These are subject to change, so we recommend that you check our website for the most up-to-date course listings and entry requirements.
Look out for the graduation cap icon on our course tables
to quickly see which will allow you to gain UCAS points to apply for university.
Our Level 3 courses can help you to collect UCAS points to apply. We run a range of vocational courses, with different pathways to get you where you need to go. Below is an indication of which of our most popular course types gather UCAS points. Check out the UCAS tariff calculator online for a full breakdown.
A step up from Entry Level. These one-year courses are the equivalent of GCSE grade 3 or D to E.
Level 2 courses are the equivalent of GCSE grades 4 or A* to C. As well as vocational courses, you can also choose to study a Level 2 apprenticeship with us.
These are equivalent to A Levels and can be studied over one or two years. They have various pathways and we will help you to decide the right one, including progression to the right route to collect UCAS points.
You can also study a Level 3 apprenticeship with us, though you won’t collect UCAS points with these.
These new two-year qualifications, which launched in Sept 2020, are the equivalent of three A Levels. You spend 80% of your time at college and 20% on an industry placement.
If you are aged 19 or over and want to return to education, these courses will prepare you to study at degree level.
If you’re ready to take your learning to the next level, we offer a range of university level programmes, from HNCs to full bachelor’s degrees.
T Levels are a qualification after GCSE that will take your future to the next level. They are the next generation of vocational learning, offering the perfect balance between classroom learning and real-world experience.
Equivalent to three A Levels and giving UCAS points for entry to university, a T Level focuses on vocational skills and can help you into skilled employment, higher level study or apprenticeships. The Lincoln City FC Shadow Scholarship Squad is a football and education programme that offers young people the opportunity to train under the umbrella of Lincoln City FC and continue their education doing something they love.
The players study the Level 3 in Sport or HNC Sport and Exercise Science (Coaching Science) with us at Riseholme alongside their training, helping them secure an academic qualification while they aspire to play at the highest level.
The squad makes use of the college’s multi-million-pound investment in sports facilities, including its fully-equipped strength and conditioning suite, a multi-use sports hall and FIFA-standard all-weather 3G pitch.

“Whilst studying for my BSc in Sport, Health and Physical Education, I worked with a range of professional football clubs, including Watford, Sheffield United and Rotherham, and I currently coach for the Lincoln City Shadow Scholarship team.
“I work closely with student athletes and its great seeing the varying directions they go in after finishing their studies. The combination of versatile classroom and sporting facilities at Riseholme, together with small class sizes, means that I’m able to really mould my teaching to students’ needs. It’s a really tight community and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”
