What’s your job like?

My role is to explore the world and all the environments of a film. In the beginning of the movie I talk with the directors and understand their vision and aesthetics. I start painting concept art, mood pieces, and try to get a feel of all the important locations. As the movie progresses I get assigned specific locations and design and paint everything in that location. I focus on the feel of a place and try to exaggerate that emotion.

How did Ringling prepare you for your career?

My favorite teachers at Ringling were George Pratt and Matteo Caloiaro. They were extremely influential to me, and introduced me to a lot of incredible artists and taught me how to see the big picture. They taught me how to see in shapes, and think of the feel of an environment instead of getting lost in the details.
