Our Program Early childhood is a time of wonder, enthusiasm and boundless energy! Our program engages children in exciting learning activities that balance their social, emotional and intellectual needs. Out unique approach combines a dynamic introduction to academics with opportunities to socialize, explore, create and play! Our Philosophy Our goal is to encourage young children to explore, discover, and enjoy new challenges. We believe children are curious, capable, and ready to learn at an early age. Our balanced program inspires children of all levels by enhancing their social-emotional, intellectual, and physical development. We dedicate ourselves to helping each child discover his or her intrinsic talents in a stimulating, nurturing, and creative environment. Inspiring a Love of Learning All children love to learn. Sometimes it is hard to know what they should learn, when they should learn it, and how it should be taught. We have spent over 40 years developing an early learning program that is finely tuned to help each child maximize his or her innate ability to learn. Our programs are committed to excellence and joy in learning. Fun and Learning for your Preschool Age Child At Landmark, students, staff and parents are all an important part of our educational community. In our classrooms we create play-based, structured learning environments. We combine an early introduction to academics with opportunities to socialize and develop life skills. Concepts such as colors, shapes, letters and numbers are introduced through songs, stories, sensory activities, art and free play. Character building, positive values, and respect for others are essential components of each day. A nurturing environment and low student to teacher ratios ensures the care and attention your child needs to blossom.

e invite you to join our dynamic and creative Fun for Ones program—where you and your child can enjoy developmentally appropriate art projects, music and movement, stories and playground time together! During Fun for Ones, our youngest students (ages 12-24 months by 12/1/16) learn about themselves and the world around them through various enriching activities, while socializing with their peers. Landmark Preschool teacher Ashley Greene will lead this engaging playgroup. Each funfilled class will focus on a different theme and the associated activities will give you ideas you can incorporate at home to help your child grow and develop. Fun for Ones classes will meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 am 10:30 am. Weather permitting, we start our sessions on the playground before entering the classroom for activities and snack. We look forward to having fun with you and your little one!

Ones Program Curriculum Landmark Preschool’s Stay and Play for Ones program focuses on the social development of the child. Our teachers facilitate social interactions between the children and help them learn to join in classroom activities. Daily activities are designed to strengthen their language skills, as well as to develop fine and gross motor skills. Learning to separate from parents, be a part of a group, take turns, share with friends and use classroom materials appropriately are important skills for one-year-olds to begin to learn. Lots of stories, games and sensory opportunities will help your little one develop in to a terrific two-year-old. Our Classrooms Our classrooms are large and bright and divided into activity areas so your children can learn and grow. The class size is limited to 8 children with two teachers to supervise and help children to explore. Discovery Time Discovery time allows children to explore the classroom materials at their own pace and is important in helping your child make a good transition from home to school. Activities include play dough, manipulative materials, a dramatic play area, a sensory table, cars and trucks, and building blocks. Stories Sharing stories through books and flannel board are favorite activities for Ones. We know that in addition to being fun, these stories are a great way to teach important skills. Children increase their understanding of language through stories, as well as their ability to comprehend. Important concepts such as patterns, rhymes and sequencing are also introduced through stories. Art Art provides sensory exploration as children experience the feel, sight and scent of paint, finger paint, glue, modeling dough, etc. Your child will enjoy the process of creation using a variety of materials. Children enjoy these creative activities, which often involve messy mediums. Please dress children accordingly. Recess Children enjoy outdoor time on our playground each day, weather permitting, building and developing large motor skills and coordination. On inclement days, we may use parachute play and other games with the children to encourage movement while indoors.

Twos Program Curriculum Landmark Preschool’s Twos program focuses on the social development of the child. Learning to separate from parents, be a part of a group, take turns, share with friends, and use classroom materials appropriately are important skills for two-year-olds to master. Our teachers facilitate social interactions between the children, and help them learn to join in classroom activities. Daily activities are designed to help children develop appropriate use of language to communicate with teachers and peers, as well as to develop fine and gross motor skills. Children are exposed to colors, shapes, letters and numbers through play, art, stories and songs. Helping children develop self-confidence and a sense of autonomy through mastery of toilet training and other self-care skills is also an important part of our program. Our Classrooms Our classrooms are large and bright and divided into activity areas so our children can learn and grow. Our four students to one teacher ratio allows our staff to supervise and help children to explore all areas of the classroom. Character Development Respect, cooperation, patience and kindness are very important life skills. We support and encourage our students to practice these behaviors and develop into the best people they can be. We teach and model the concepts of sharing and being a good friend while children learn to function as an individual and as a member of a group. Themes Each week we focus our learning around a new theme, such as a letter, number, color, shape or holiday. We incorporate these topics in all of our activities and share fun facts and concepts to help our students explore the world around them. Free Choice Time Free Choice time allows children to explore the classroom at their own pace and is important in helping your child make a good transition from home to school. Children may interact with play dough, drawing materials, puzzles, manipulatives, a dramatic play area, a sensory table, dolls, cars, trucks, building blocks and more.

Circle Time The class comes together each day to participate in songs, finger plays, letter sounds and games. Creative movement activities such as dance, marching band, and parachute play promote coordination. Listening skills are also part of our day. Stories Sharing stories through books and flannel board are favorite activities for twos. Projects may be open-ended or may relate to our themes. Children enjoy these creative activities, which often involve paint, glue, etc. Music & Movement Our music program incorporates the use of both new and familiar songs, tunes, echo lyrics, rhythm instruments and movement to learn the patterns of song. Class themes are reinforced as children have fun learning key musical terms and principles. Recess Children enjoy outdoor time on our playground each day, weather permitting, building and developing large motor skills and coordination. On inclement days, we may use parachute play and other games with the children to encourage movement while indoors.

Threes Program Curriculum Character Development Respect, cooperation, patience and kindness are very important life skills. We support and encourage our students to practice these behaviors and develop into the best people they can be. We teach and model the concepts of sharing and being a good friend while children learn to function as an individual and as a member of a group. Themes Every month to six weeks we focus our learning around a new theme, such as “All About Me, the farm, transportation, community helpers, the zoo, ocean life and more. We incorporate these topics in all of our activities and share fun facts and concepts to help our students explore the world around them. Free Choice Time All of our days start with free choice time where your child can try different games, sensory activities or make their own fun. Often times you can find children cooking in the play kitchen, painting at the easel or building on the carpet with blocks of all shapes and sizes. Handwriting Our students learn to write using Handwriting Without Tears, a therapeutically designed handwriting program. This technique uses wooden pieces, chalkboards and dough, as well as tracing activities, to support fine motor skills. Children draw journal entries over the course of the year, documenting their fine motor growth.

Math Math skills are developed every day as our students cook, build towering structures or scoop sand in the sensory table. Children learn to recognize numerals zero to ten and focus on mastering one-to-one correspondence. We teach counting and shapes using games, manipulatives and our Smart Boards. Literacy All children are readers. Recognizing and supporting the skills that take your child from an emergent reader to a fluent and expressive one is a joyful part of the Landmark experience. In our threes program we sing songs and play games that help children learn that every letter makes a special sound. We encourage children to learn that sound and connect it with its capital letter, with and without picture cues. These activities build decoding skills and provide the foundation for our phonics based reading program. The ability to decipher new words, combined with an awareness of other skills, such as picture and content clues, sequencing and sight words, gives children a variety of strategies to approach reading with confidence. Science Preschoolers are naturally curious and our programs allow students to wonder, ask questions and seek answers about the natural world through observations, experimentation and the use of equipment. They collect and interpret basic data while discovering the world around them. Technology Our classrooms are equipped with the latest technology allowing our students to expand their learning through various thoughtful and developmentally appropriate media. We use Smart Boards, iPads and digital cameras in our classrooms to compliment the curriculum. Art Exposure to various art mediums and projects builds eye-hand coordination, promotes spatial awareness, encourages sensory exploration and reinforces concepts from our classrooms. To children, the process of creation is the most important part of their art experience. Our students love to paint and create and we love to display their work! Music & Movement Our music program incorporates the use of both new and familiar songs, tunes, echo lyrics, rhythm instruments and movement to learn the patterns of song. Class themes are reinforced as children have fun learning key musical terms and principles. Recess Our students have play time outside every day. In cold weather, hot weather and even on misty days we take the opportunity to move our bodies, practice our motor skills, learn cooperative play and have some laughs.

Fours Program Curriculum Character Development Respect, cooperation, patience and kindness are very important life skills. We support and encourage our students to practice these behaviors and develop into the best people they can be. We teach and model the concepts of sharing and being a good friend while children learn to function as an individual and as a member of a group. We also focus on accepting responsibility for one’s own actions and becoming accountable as we prepare children for Kindergarten. Themes Every month to six weeks we focus our learning around a new theme, such as nutrition, the solar system, dinosaurs, hibernation, life cycles and more. We incorporate these topics in all of our activities and share fun facts and concepts to help our students explore the world around them. We conclude each unit with a handson field trip to connect the concepts learned in the classroom with real world experiences. Free Choice Time Each day begins with free choice time where your child can try different games, sensory activities or make their own fun. Often times you can find children building on the carpet with blocks of all shapes and sizes. Handwriting Our students learn to write using Handwriting Without Tears, a therapeutically designed handwriting program. This technique uses wooden pieces, chalkboards and dough, as well as tracing activities, to support fine motor skills. Journals are used to foster an interest in writing and inventive spelling, while documenting their fine motor growth over the course of the year. Math Math skills are developed every day as our students cook, build towering structures or scoop sand in the sensory table. Children learn to recognize numerals zero to twenty and focus on mastering one-to-one correspondence. We teach problem solving, graphing, patterning and sorting using games, manipulatives and our Smart Boards. Literacy All children are readers. Recognizing and supporting the skills that take your child from an emergent reader to a fluent and expressive one is a joyful part of the Landmark experience. In our fours program we encourage children to learn each letter’s sound and connect it with its capital and lower case letter, with and without picture cues. These activities build decoding skills and provide the foundation for our phonics based reading program. As children progress, consonant-vowel blends, three letter words, short vowel books, long vowel books and digraphs are introduced during individualized instruction. Phonics games, activities, and stories are used to reinforce these concepts and give children the ability to decipher new words. Combined with an awareness of other skills, such as picture and content clues, sequencing and sight words, children develop a variety of strategies to approach reading with confidence.
