Coaching from grass roots through to high performance requires coaches at all levels to constantly keep up with the demands and expectations of those that take part in sport. We believe that the courses within this programme give coaches across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire the most practical approach to keeping at the top of their own game. Clubs and volunteers are also required to keep up to date with the latest developments within sport and this programme will provide each of you the opportunity to ensure that you are best informed and skilled to keep your club and own skills current, to meet the many demands that you face at club level. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Emma O’Dowd, Terry Harvey and Nathan Blundell for their time in putting together an ever improving programme. Each year the programme content strengthens in what it provides and is now a pivotal part of education for sport for Local Authorities, sport organisations and those undertaking Higher Education and Further Education. The support of Further Education in the development of this new programme has meant a widening of the audience who are looking to develop their skills together with providing the opportunity to access funding to support skills for students wishing to work or volunteer in the sport sector. I would also like to acknowledge the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) who have been able to provide courses to include in the programme. With a greater emphasis now sitting with NGBs to increase participation there will be even greater demands to build upon their respective workforce. Working with CSW Sport on a number of programmes it is pleasing to see close involvement with this piece of work. As key partners with CSW Sport, NGBs will ensure that we are targeting all communities to develop both a new and improved existing sport workforce. Meanwhile CSW Sport will continue to support its partners in providing the best experience for all within sport across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire.

Sport Equality Coventry Solihull & Warwickshire Sport is committed to working proactively to ensure access to sport and active recreation across the partnership for anyone, regardless of individual circumstance or background. We will work with partners to address barriers to participation and promote positive actions to ensure under represented communities have the

opportunity to participate in their chosen activities. In order to achieve this we will develop actions with partners. We recognise the diversity of our community and accept that we have to be more pro-active and put additional resources into engaging with individuals and groups who have not traditionally accessed our services.

Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport Coventry Solihull & Warwickshire Sport is committed to promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people engaged in sporting activities across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire. It aims to contribute to safeguarding children and young people by: ▪ Meeting the requirements of the Standards for Safeguarding and Protection Children in Sport (CPSU, 2002) ▪ Implementing and demonstrating best safeguarding practice when staff, volunteers or others are providing services, activities and programmes for children and other young people. ▪ Working with partners to establish and implement agreed, consistent minimum safeguarding standards for sporting activities across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire. ▪ Requiring those individuals or organisations that are funded or commissioned to provide any service for children and young people to effectively address safeguarding requirements. ▪ Maximising its influence to promote safeguarding practice and principles within its wider partnership roles and relationships. ▪ Promote a culture that ensures children are listened to and respected as individuals.

We have already achieved the Preliminary and Intermediate Levels of the Standards for Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport and are currently developing portfolios to achieve the Advanced Level. We have recently developed a series of Keeping Sport Safe! Guides which include: ▪ A guide for parents and carers ▪ A guide for sports coaches and leaders

▪ A guide for children and young people ▪ A guide for sports clubs These Guides can be downloaded from the CSW Sport Website at www.cswsport.org.uk. They have been developed with children and young people and with key partners such as the NSPCC, Child Protection in Sport Unit, Sport England and the three Local Safeguarding Children Boards across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire. This Coach Education and Club Development Programme has a variety of generic courses developed through sports coach UK and runningsports, many of which aim to promote better outcomes for children and young people. Other workshops are currently being developed such as the sports coach UK Workshop on Managing Challenging Behaviour which we hope will be offered as a generic course in the near future.
