A

quiet, residential area of Richmond was turned into a crime scene Tuesday morning after the victim of a shooting was taken to hospital. Richmond RCMP cordoned off the area around a detached home on Waterton Drive at Malahat Avenue – close to No. 3 Road and Steveston Highway. The shooting, say police, took place in the 7800 block of Waterton Drive shortly before 6 a.m., and by 8 a.m. the small

street was closed off to the public. According to the RCMP, one victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. It’s not clear whether it was a man or woman or whether they resided at the home in question. There is also no word on whether the shooting was targeted or if the victim is known to police. “This is an active and unfolding investigation,” said acting Cpl. Adriana Peralta. “We want to stress to the public that we take their safety seriously and have engaged every available resource to investigate this incident and ensure their safety.” A local resident, who didn’t want to give

her name, told the Richmond News that she heard some kind of noise early Tuesday morning, but “didn’t think more about it” until police taped off the street near her home. A police dog and handler were inspecting the area around the home, while other investigators came and went from the residence. More details are expected to be released later. Anyone with information regarding the incident is being asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or CrimeStoppers anonymously at 1-800222-8477.
