The annual charity skittles match held between 'Laings' from the Civil Service Club on Filton Avenue and 'Henbury Gents' raised a magnificent £350. A cheque for this amount has been given to the charity 'Headway Bristol' in memory of Duncan Edwards who played for both teams. 'Headway Bristol' is based at Frenchay Hospital and is an independent charity which provides social and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with a brain injury and support and respite for their families. Services are provided across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North & North East Somerset.

New health provider for Filton in ‘care and compassion’ pledge Care, compassion and innovation will be at the heart of services to be provided in Filton and South Gloucestershire by Sirona Care & Health, its chief executive said today. Janet Rowse was speaking after it was announced that from April 1 2014, the majority of community health care services in South Gloucestershire would be provided by the not-for-profit social enterprise. Sirona already provides services to children with life limiting illnesses in the district and from October 1 will be providing specialist health services for people with a learning difficulty. This latest announcement extends provision further to include the majority of community health services, including district nursing,
community therapy services and a range of local services provided in clinics and health centres across South Gloucestershire and on Henderson Ward at Thornbury Hospital. Sirona is publicly funded by the NHS and, in some areas, local authorities. As a community interest company which does not have shareholders, any surplus is reinvested into services for local people. It currently employs 1,700 staff, most of whom transferred

Ms Rowse said: “We are delighted to be given the opportunity to expand the range of health care services we provide within South Gloucestershire. “Community health services support some of the most vulnerable people in our local communities and we are committed to working with individuals to help them remain as independent as they can and to achieve the goals that are important to them. “This will mean us working with people at an early stage to minimise the extent to which their health impacts on their daily lives. We will be putting
in place new style services to support, in particular, our elderly frail population by working closely with our GP colleagues who are at the centre of local healthcare.” Jonathan Hayes, chairman of South Gloucestershire CCG said “The service provide by SGCHS is of high standard. However, the quality of the bidders was incredibly high and we are convinced that Sirona Care and Health will be able to build upon the existing services and improve them. “We want to reassure patients that there will be a continuous service as we move over to the new provider. Staff from the current teams will be moving across to work for Sirona Care and Health and it will, of course, continue to be a free NHS funded service.”
