KIRAN DAYAL
Segments of Empowerment
Kiran Dayal - New Delhi, India
“I situate symbolism as my tool and create a range of work that varies in material, eg. clay, and paper. The ability to communicate and communication itself has been central to my practice and while traversing to be able to do so, I found my inclination towards symbolism and community engagement. I create Mixed media Paintings, Drawings, as well as 2D and 3D clay-works, explore textures & mediums. I decipher from past text and data available on the subject matter and sometimes let the personal experiences take the lead. As a brown Indian girl bought up in a Hindu family, I explore the self as a woman in a patriarchal setting. My work has majorly been a medium to my catharsis, gateway to exploration, rebellion & empowerment. My work explores and reiterates the need for inclusivity and coexistence, tolerance, equality, and ideas of posthumanism in existing times. Narrations address one’s socio-cultural ‘being and becoming’, against the dogmas and hypocrisies that societies resort to. Through my work, I have reclaimed what is rightfully mine, that is, the freedom to choose otherwise.”
