The IBO Prophet A POLICEMAN MURDERS HIS WIFE

Homicide and suicide in Liverpool. By Blanca IbĂĄĂąez Last Monday 28th of January, Katherine Sampson was found dead in a street of Liverpool, near where she lived. The investigation shows she was shot twice by her husband,

who was a policeman. He killed himself after murdering his wife. They had been living separated for three years, but they were not divorced. They had a son together who is 8 years old. Katherine Sampson had complained to him two years ago, but one week ago the complaint was overruled by the court. He was suspended from his job as police officer, but he used

his police gun to first shoot his wife twice and then 200 metres away himself. The shots were heard by passersby and residents of the neighbourhood who ran to hide, but no one was present during the time of the crime. Victim's relatives mourn the death of Katherine, but they all say they for some time feared that this could happen.

OPINION EDITORIAL After the tragic incidents in Liverpool, which have shaken and moved all of our country, and which we are really sorry for, from The IBO Prophet we promote the establishing of three days of national mourning. From the editorial staff of The IBO Prophet we want to encourage our appreciated readers to collaborate with the police at any time, may it be when the police is investigating a crime or when they must be reported about the committing of one. We think this behaviour can help the police’s work a lot, making easier and faster resolve the different crimes that could happen near us. Therefore, we strongly recommend to always be attentive to your environment, no matter how familiar you are with it. An accurate memory of whatever happened may be useful to only jail people who are guilty. A quick response to witnessing of a crime can help to save lives. No matter how many people you might see, call the police immediately to assure they will arrive as fast as possible. It is better that they have too many alert calls of the same crime than to think, as many people do, that if there are so many people, one of them has already called the police. So, please, don’t doubt it: if you see a crime, report it immediately to the police! We know the great responsibility the police have in our country, and we think that the minimum reward they deserve is to receive a bit of help, help that can be given by you, the people, by only following these simple but effective tips that, as we have said, can even save lives. To sum up, please, dear reader, we are asking you to help the police as much as you can, by reporting any crime you might see and by recalling any memory you may have of the crime, at the time of the investigation. Advertisement fever Dear Editor I've been reading this newspaper for many years. I think your articles are very objective, that's why I've been buying it every week. This hasn't changed but there is something that has: the number of advertisments has been increasing during this time. At the beginning, there weren't many and I could bear it because of your good articles. But since then this is beginning to be a problem and for example last week I had to go through over two pages of publicity and I thought this was excessive. Therefore, as a loyal reader of your newspaper, I request that you reduce the number of advertisments so I do not start losing my faith in you. Regards,

OPINION

Alternative sports To the Editor:

Citizens Dear Editor, I am writing to complain about the politic system in which I live. I am really tired of being just a simple citizen who cannot do anything to change this absurd and shameful democracy. I want to bring it down and start from scratch. The inhabitants of a country should be able to form by themselves groups of working, responsible, honest people, but this change in the society can only be achieved through education. We must improve our children’s education of values, as much at home as in the schools. These values are comradeship, justice, freedom and solidarity. We have to be hard workers and follow a culture of effort, empathy and assertiveness. To sum up, we should fight against oppression, corruption and all in all against injustice and poverty. We must create a new society based on citizens, who have to support social justice and human dignity, no matter what. This new society should move forward together, looking for benefits for everybody and fitting minorities in. This is the only way to get an egalitarian society. Changing the society does not mean that we must do it by revolution, but by seriousness, calm, determination and above all strong conviction that we can change it. We must destroy actual power but peacefully, in order to decide on our own about all those things we need to be happy because everybody is like us, neither better nor worse, neither richer nor poorer. Yours faithfully,

I have been a daily reader of your newspaper for several years and I find all the articles you publish very interesting. The section I'm most interested in is the sports. In Friday's edition of the newspaper I read an article that talked about all the medals Great Britain won in the London Olympic Games. It also showed the highest classification Great Britain got in different sports and most of them were sports that are not popular among Great Britain people. I write because for a long time in the sports section I only found articles dealing with soccer and very few articles dealing with other sports, and I’m happy you have published this article of different sports. There are a lot of sports Great Britain is good at, but sadly people don’t know this because they aren’t informed about it. I hope that after London having been the headquarters of the Olympic Games people start giving more importance to other sports such as athletics, swimming or cycling. Blanca Ibáñez Sáez

Smaller is better Dear Editor, A week ago you changed the size of your newspaper. Before that, it was bigger, more difficult to handle and you've reduced it considerably to 2/3 of the previous size. This has made print smaller but that is not a big deal, and there are more advantages: it uses less paper, so it's less polluting. It's also more comfortable to read and store it. I congratulate you and thank you for this decision. Best wishes,

Juan Gutiérrez

Merkel, more and more alone The resignation of the Education minister in Germany marks the fourth of Merkel’s government since 2009. By Álvaro López Yesterday, 9th February 2013, Merkel presented in the Reichstag to announce the resignation of Annette Schavan. In the first days of this week, the University of Düsseldorf retired Schavan’s doctorate after the discovery that she had presented text of books as personal opinions. In Germany, that is enough to make a person resign (although, of course, Schavan will reclaim the sentence) and create public outrage. This is the fourth minister Merkel loses since she formed government in 2009: The Defense minister, in 2011 also resigned for the same reason.

So, yesterday, Merkel and Schavan gave a press conference in the German parliament in which the new Education minister (Johanna Wanka) was announced. Schavan’s intervention:“Firstly the country, later the party and at last myself”, contributing to clean the stain left in Merkel’s spotless façade. But is Merkel really relaxed or is it only appearance? Because since 2009, when the CDU was re-elected, four members of his government have resigned. It seems that she’s losing her support. And that is what makes this case so interesting. Merkel, who is half hated, half loved in Europe, is not supported anymore. And what will we do? Because, we have a European

president, but it has been Merkel who has governed Europe all these years. So we have to think twice when we consider the EU. Is it really worth it? The euro is losing value, but the pound is still safe. Europe is falling, and falling from the skies, not from a second floor. We believed in ourselves as gods, but we see we are nothing but mere humans. In the unionist madness we have lowered the standards to be part of the EU, and we are now suffering the consequences: economic crisis, ghost institutions, rule of a single country that if falls will speed up ours… In this case it doesn’t seem so bad the little independence of the UK that we have many times criticised.

Las Vegas comes to Madrid A huge area of leisure activities will rise in Spain by 2017

By Rebeca Aguado It has been decided that Eurovegas, which is a huge area of casinos, hotels, discos and other night time leisure places, will be located in the outskirts of Madrid, Spain. It is planned to be finished by the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017. The project will be started next month and it will employ many workmen in the

construction sector. Therefore, it will provide a lot of employment. Its erection will mean about 10.000 jobs in the leisure sector, such as crupiers, receptionists, bellboys, waiters, cleaning maintenance staff, etc. Thus, the unemployed rate will decrease by about 4% according to the provided calculation. Besides, it will attract a large number of tourists, which will produce an increase in the number of flights; therefore, the income for the Spanish airlines will increase, and so will the other means of

transport. But this project also has its disadvantages. The construction of it will involve a great expense, which will worsen our disastrous economic situation at the moment. Also, when constructed, it will use a lot of electricity and theri will pollution from all the cars. Besides, the inequalities within Spain will grow because Madrid will acumulate more wealthness and population.

Sheffield beats Shoreditch and wins the Queen’s Cup By Juan Gutiérrez It has been decided that Last Sunday morning we attended an unforgettable show. In the small Shoreditch, a London district surrounded by apple trees, the two best volleyball teams of England gathered to fight for the Queen’s Cup. Both teams, Shoreditch Volley and Sheffield VBC lead the UK’s Superleague. Last season, they achieved the second and the third position in the Superleague, respectively. Sheffield VBC was a recently promoted team and surprised everybody with its victories and good way of playing. They also reached the final of this tournament, but they lost to Shoreditch. One year after that, they played again together and gave us

an incredible show. The sports hall of Sheffield was completely full of people. Crowds of fans gathered there to enjoy the game. Regardin the match, Sheffield got the first set quite easily, but then Shoreditch reacted and won the second set. The two following sets were for Sheffield, but every player fighted as never before for the cup. It was not clear at first which team was favourite, but the defence of Sheffield was decisive. Furthermore, the game was so intense that some players were worn out at the end. It was an example of fair play by both sides and there were no bad words between them. We the people from England can feel proud of our volleyball teams and support them as we do in other sports. Volleyball can socialize kids and it can teach them moral values such as comradeship or selfishness.

HIGH VIEW, high expectations, higher results Charles Collins inaugurated yesterday his long awaited picture exhibition. After one year travelling all around the world, the famous artist and photographer Charles T. Collins has finished his hard work, creating a two hundred picture collection that yesterday was opened to the public. There was huge expectation at the inauguration at Picasso's London Gallery (where the exhibition will remain until this December), because most of the contemporary artistic celebrities had been expressing (by social networks) a great admiration towards his new work. Consequently, more than one thousand people came to the event. After a little explanation of what his aims were and how he had achieved them, Collins cut the red ribbon and in a few seconds, an avalanche of art-thirsty people came inside the gallery. Fortunately, nobody was injured. The subject of the photograph collection is

“HIGH VIEW”, very appropriate to describe that the pictures were taken from the air. Collins flew the world with his camera, taking incredible pictures that show the contrast between nature's beauty and human's cruelty. Photographs of the Sahara Desert and the cloud of smoke over New York City collide in this interesting exhibition. No one was sure about Collins’ possible success, but as he literally said: “I take my pictures to capture moments, so that they can live forever. But with this collection I want the world to be aware of the terrible danger we are in. We are destroying the Earth. We've got the facts, the pictures... let's change all the bad things we've done.” By Marina Gonzalo

FILM REVIEW Les Misérables (2012) Les misérables. This name has told us an epic story of love and revolution since it was first published in 1862 in Paris. Adapted into a musical by Schönger and Kretzmer in 1980, in has been in stages all over the world for more than 25 years. And it was in the 25th anniversary when Cameron Mackintosh, the producer, announced the recording of a new movie adaptation, finally released in cinemas on Christmas Day. And its premiere was a huge success. It has been such a success, that even half a month after its release, it is still at the cinemas. And the reasons of this success are a lot: professional cast, impressive sceneries, beautiful photography, and novel techniques make of this work a masterpiece of the musical film. Let’s start with the cast: Hugh Jackman in the role of Jean Valjean, a convict released on parole; Russel Crowe as Javert, the police officer who will be the nemesis of Valjean. A delicate Anne Hathaway will act as Fantine, a poor woman who cares a lot of for little child, Cosette. And the comic duet: the Thénardiers, played by Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen, will be the colour of the movie. All these characters, and many more, will take us to the France at the beginning of the 19th Century: from the prison docks where Valjean works, to the poorest streets of Paris where a revolution will form. And this is achieved thanks to impressive and realistic sets and unforgettable songs. The music introduces Les misérables to the last point of making it a masterpiece: the recording live sound, at the same time as the acting. Instead of doing it in the “old school way”: recording the songs in a professional studio and later acting, then superimposing both tracks

in the editing studio, in Les misérables songs are recorded live, which gives the movie a much more natural character than other previous musicals in cinema history. To sum up, Les misérables is the new reinterpretation of musicals: an epic story, impeccable technical work and beautiful soundtrack that makes it a masterpiece. But, like everything, it has some weak points: the language (it is in English, and it’s logical, but the action takes place in France), and the duration (more than three hours of film, with no pauses) make it imperfect. CHECKING OUT RED RITA Friday night, some friends, supper together. Any ideas? Let's try the recently opened restaurant named Red Rita. Why? Well, since I had heard different opinions about it, I personally was looking forward to going there. As thought, as done. In 10 minutes we were on our way to the restaurant. I should admit that my first impression was not nice. Red Rita is located in Hackney, a largely residential borough not well served by the underground. Although I like Hackney because of the real life it has of its own and the thrilling clubs, bars, music venues and theatres, it is definitely not a very convenient area if you want downtown customers. The surroundings were not satisfying either: a disco, three buildings on the left of Red Rita, filled the air with weird background music. It was not difficult to find the restaurant, because there is a huge red illuminated Red Rita sign. Great idea to catch citizens attention. As we went inside, the atmosphere from outdoors changed completely. A medium-size place, not very crowded by people of all ages. The decoration is interesting: a mixture of modern and antique decor, but smartly combined, resulting in a likeable place with red details that fit with the front-door sign. An important thing to have in mind: there is a little stage at the very end of the restaurant. Noone singing when we arrived.

The service was really nice, letting us choose the table we liked the best. We were curious about the stage, so we sat down where we were able to see the possible performance. The menu came, and the problems began. All kinds of food can be found in Red Rita and we were unable to make up our minds. There is a great variety of dishes containing fish, meat, vegetables, pasta, rice and pizza. And a positive thing is that many pictures are attached. We had trouble deciding what to order (except from the wine, since there were not many options‌). We were hungry and the wait was very long, but it was rewarded by the tasty food. Proper size and not similar flavours (something surprisingly uncommon). Unanimously, hamburgers were the soul of the party. The service had a bipolar behaviour. Very friendly at first, but getting impolite as time went by. In conclusion, although the location and the service were not wonderful, it is a good place to enjoy food and company. In reference to the karaoke-like stage, nobody performed. But open-microphone night is on Saturdays. What bad luck! Well, maybe one day after the disco‌
