Vale Report (13 Jan 2025 - 8 Apr 2025)

Executive Report

Dear Members,

We hope you enjoyed a long weekend over Easter and had a wonderful relaxing Easter break.

FUTURE DIRECTION

The Board of Directors held a strategy day late last year, as we continue to navigate the evolving landscape of our industry.

Following on from this we are excited to announce the formation of sub-committees to help further advance our initiatives. Board members are represented on each of these subcommittees along with members of the Management team.

• ESG, Risk and Community Committee

• Building Committee

• Business Committee

I want to take a moment to reaffirm the Board's unwavering commitment to the strategic direction and vision that we have collectively set for the Club.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

We are delighted to share that this year’s International Women’s Day event was our most impactful yet, raising an incredible $40,000 for Biyani House Revesby Women’s Shelter.

This is the largest donation we’ve ever made through International Women’s Day, and it speaks volumes about the generosity and compassion of our community. For five years now, this event has been about more than just raising funds, it’s about bringing people together to celebrate women, push for progress, and champion inclusivity.

This year, our speakers Sallianne Faulkner, Grace Rowe, and Frida Deguise shared their deeply personal stories of courage and determination. They reminded us why these conversations, and the action that follows, matter so much.

This achievement was made possible through the generosity of our partner, Leagues Club Australia, and the collective support of ClubsNSW and local clubs across the industry, who have not only supported this event but also work alongside us to drive meaningful change for those experiencing domestic violence and in support of the International Women's Day movement.

We would also like to extend a special thanks to all our event sponsors, the Board, and everyone who attended, whose presence and participation were vital to the success of this event and the important cause.

We would like to thank and recognise the efforts and commitment of our Marketing and Food and Beverage teams for organising and managing this special event. The success is a credit to all the staff for their hard work and dedication.

VAL KENNEDY

On March 1, a special milestone was celebrated within the Club—the 36th anniversary of the Revesby Workers’ Garden Club, founded by Bill Bullard in 1989.

It was an honour to mark this occasion by presenting Val Kennedy, our dedicated Garden Club President, with Life Membership of the Revesby Workers’ Garden Club.

MICHELLE CADDELL

Congratulations to our very own Revesby Village Centre Shopping Manager, Michelle Caddell who committed to being a “Star” of Penrith – a ‘Dancing with the Stars’ type competition run by the Cancer Council on March 21.

Michelle danced Irish and raised over $35,000.

ASBESTOS AND DUST DISEASES RESEARCH INSTITUTE

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Club President Christine Butters and CEO Scott Bennetts recently attended a Reception at Government House for the Asbestos and Dust Diseases Research Institute.

The event was hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC and was attended by individuals and businesses who donate funding and contribute to the incredible work that the Institute undertakes, working towards finding a cure for asbestos related diseases.

Revesby Workers’ Club generously donated $45,000 in 2024 and are hopeful to support the Institute again this year.

The Club’s support of the Institute was widely recognised throughout the event, and we are honoured to be in a position to be able to provide this much needed funding.

Daniel Kurtz Director

It's hard to believe we're already in May—what a busy start to 2025!

As I begin my second term as a Director, I feel truly privileged to represent our staff, Club, and members. I want to express my gratitude to my fellow Directors, our CEO Scott Bennetts, the Senior Managers, and the entire team for their unwavering dedication in creating a positive and welcoming environment for all our Members and Guests every day.

After the closure of all the function rooms on Level 1 in 2024 for major renovations and refurbishment, it's fantastic to see so many events taking place in 2025.

As many of our Summer Sports wrap up their season, I’d like to congratulate everyone on another fantastic year. All of our Sub Clubs are driven by hardworking and dedicated volunteers.

The Revesby Workers’ Football Club, for which I serve as Liaison Director, has had an impressive start to the 2025 season, with 34 teams and over 500 players. The club has also been running Summer Competitions and a Pre-Season Program in preparation for the winter season ahead.

Meanwhile, Illawong Athletics has capped off another great year with a club record at the NSW Milers Meet. Club member Anthony cleared 4.00m in the Pole Vault and took home the win in the open event. The club also had athletes compete in the NSW Juniors, NSW Opens Championships and achieve excellent results at the Masters Championships.

Congratulations to all the athletes and the entire club on these amazing achievements!

I recently joined the Club staff and had the opportunity to attend a Club-wide meeting led by our Executive Manager of People & Culture, Sharyn Buhagiar. She provided key updates and introduced the launch of the Club's Domestic Violence Action Plan, which includes a range of important initiatives.

A big thank you to everyone who visited the Club and attended our ANZAC Day ceremony. It was a fantastic turnout, and it's truly one of my favourite events on the calendar as we pay our respects.

This issue of the Journal highlights many exciting events happening throughout the Club. I'm looking forward to continuing to connect with members around the Club in the months ahead.

Director Reports

Players from the Revesby Workers’ Football Club.
Revesby Workers’ Football Club players attending the ANZAC Day service.

It has been six months since my election to the Board of Directors in October last year and I must say how impressed I am at the professionalism, commitment and dedication of the Club’s Board, Management and all the staff I have had the pleasure of engaging. It is truly an honour to represent the Club and its members as my father Keith did for ten years as a director back in the 90s.

I am truly impressed and amazed by the sheer volume and high quality of work the Club dedicates to the community, as well as its generosity and financial support for so many deserving causes and individuals.

A bit about my background: I grew up in Revesby and attended both Revesby Primary and East Hills Boys High Schools. I began playing cricket for Revesby Workers in 1972, and I'm now in my 53rd consecutive year with the Club, currently serving as its President.

I fondly remember attending the annual Christmas parties hosted by the Club and many other events at the old Club before it became Henry Lawson House and later Club Troppo. In the '80s, I spent a lot of time with my brothers skateboarding in the new Club car park. I joined the Workers Club on my 18th birthday and quickly became a regular at the Wednesday night disco, the Friday night cocktail bar, and spent many weekends at the Sports Bar and the Fibro after playing cricket, baseball, and lawn bowls. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed seeing countless amazing local and international bands perform in the Auditorium and look forward to many more in the new Melham Function Room.

I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the many positive changes the Club has made over the years, both in its buildings and operations, and I’ve seen it grow into one of the leading Clubs in NSW. I’m incredibly excited to be a part of the Club's future and look forward to working closely with the Board, Management, staff, and members. In my role as Director, I’ve been appointed as the Liaison Director for the Cricket, Fishos, and Men’s Golf Clubs. I was warmly welcomed at the Golf Club’s Christmas and Presentation Day, even in what felt like forty-degree heat! I had a fantastic time with the golfers and am looking forward to playing more with them—hopefully improving my game along the way.

The Board of Directors

Over the years, my family and I have been actively involved in the Cricket, Baseball, Soccer, Little Athletics, Netball and Bowls Clubs. I have had the pleasure of representing the Revesby Workers’ Cricket Club on the international stage playing in Fiji, New Zealand and Barbados cricket tournaments. One highlight was meeting with West Indian cricket legends Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes and exchanging great cricket stories, I just wish I had one to give them.

My involvement in many of the sub-clubs over the years has brought me lifelong friendships and cherished memories, and I look forward to creating many more. I’d like to express my gratitude to all the past Board members I’ve had the pleasure of knowing over the past thirty-plus years, since my father was on the Board. I've enjoyed many great conversations about the Club and the community. In particular, I want to thank former President Daryl Melham AM and current Vice President Christine Benham for their unwavering support and guidance.

Thank you both very much. I’m truly excited to be part of the future of this incredible Club.

#IWD2025 SUCCESS

On 7 March, the Club held the 5th annual International Women’s Day Event in the newly renovated Whitlam Theatre. This annual fundraiser hosted 300 community, industry and club members, to celebrate Women and raise crucial funding for Biyani House – Revesby Women’s Shelter. Inspired by the International Women’s Day movement, the event champions inclusivity, progress for women, and diversity across all identities. Despite 30 years since the United Nations’ Beijing Declaration for gender equality, challenges persist, making events like this vital for continued change.

This year’s event featured three remarkable keynote speakers who shared their experiences, insights, and inspirational stories.

Sallianne Faulkner, shared her journey as a passionate community leader and Chair of ClubsNSW, is dedicated to promoting women’s safety and building strong, inclusive communities. Drawing from her experience as General Manager of Bayside Women’s Shelter and President of Netball NSW, she highlighted the importance of social cohesion and resilience.

Grace Rowe, a junior motocross racer and public relations representative for Stand Tall Australia, is one of the few fully sponsored female riders in the country.

Grace spoke about a lifethreatening accident that left her with a broken pelvis in six places, she endured over 15 months

of rehabilitation, learning to walk again and undertaking trauma therapy. Her story is a testament to strength, resilience, and overcoming adversity.

Frida Deguise, an entrepreneur, professional chef, and standup comedian, recounted her inspiring journey of building her business and career from scratch with remarkable strength and a sharp sense of humour. This event supports Biyani House – Revesby Women’s Shelter, who provide a safe, culturally aware, and inclusive service for women experiencing domestic violence and homelessness within the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA.

Their mission is to empower women, treating them with dignity and respect as they rebuild their lives. Last year’s event raised over $24,000 for Biyani House, and this year, we are thrilled to announce that we raised over $40,000!

This incredible achievement was made possible through the generous support of our partner Leagues Club Australia, event sponsors, board members, and attendees of the event.

Together, we continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of women in need.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS END ON A HIGH WITH MINIFIT FUN!

The summer school holidays wrapped up with a bang as the Club proudly supported the MiniFIT Holiday Clinic, led by former NRL Roosters star Anthony ‘Mini’ Minichiello. Held at Milperra Reserve on January 21st, this exciting event offered a fun and active way for children to finish off their summer break.

The MiniFIT program, which runs annually, provides a dynamic experience for kids aged 5 to 12, focusing on fitness, teamwork, and living an active lifestyle. This year’s clinic saw a remarkable rise in female participation, with girls making up over 40% of attendees, reflecting the program’s broad appeal.

Designed to promote physical activity and overall wellbeing, the free clinic not only helps children stay active but also builds confidence, improves motor skills, and encourages lasting friendships. Through a series of fun drills, games, and interactive coaching, participants had the chance to develop their athletic abilities while enjoying a supportive and inclusive environment.

As mental health challenges among children continue to grow in Southwest Sydney, with around 14% of children aged 4 to 17 facing mental health difficulties in 2019 (Southwestern Sydney Local Health District), programs like MiniFIT play a vital role. Regular physical activity is key to boosting mood, reducing stress, and enhancing selfesteem, concentration, and resilience—critical factors in supporting mental well-being.

REVESBY BOWLING CLUB’S TERRY RAPER MEMORIAL TRIPLES RAISES

$3,500 FOR MELANOMA FOUNDATION

The Revesby Bowling Club hosted the annual Terry Raper Memorial Triples Charity Bowls Day, at Revesby Greens on 14th March 2025.

This much-anticipated event brought the local community together in the spirit of generosity, competition, and remembrance, raising a total of $3,500 for the Melanoma Foundation.

The Revesby Bowling Club Sub-Club spearheaded the fundraising efforts, raising $2,500, with an additional $1,000 donated by the Club. Since its inception, the Terry Raper Memorial Bowls Day has raised over $60,000 in support of melanoma research and awareness, in memory and recognition of the late Terry Raper.

A highlight of the day was the fiercely contested Triples event - congratulations to Joe, Skye, and Nick a young team from Padstow Bowling Club who secured victory as the 2025 champions.

A special thank you goes out to all participants, volunteers, and supporters who made the annual Terry Raper Memorial Triples a success, honouring Terry Raper’s legacy through sport and community spirit.

EMPOWERING FUTURES -

$87,000 DONATION TO LOCAL SCHOOLS

The Club is proud to announce that a total of $87,000 has been invested in 14 local schools through the long-standing School Subsidy Program. Now in its 39th year, this historic initiative continues to provide vital support to schools, ensuring students receive enhanced educational opportunities.

The program is guided by the Club’s dedicated Education Committee, a passionate group of individuals from both the club and the local community. The committee plays a key role in overseeing the fair and effective allocation of funding. Its members include:

Linda Downey – A Club Director, long-time educator, and former Mayor of Bankstown.

John Choueifate – A newly elected Director with over 40 years of experience in the Australian media industry, who has also served on various boards supporting youth and healthcare, offering valuable insight into education.

Zhi Soon – A respected education policymaker and former Australian diplomat, known for his strong advocacy for educational equity.

Alan Ashton – A former educator, councillor, and Member of Parliament, whose extensive experience in public service helps the committee allocate funding efficiently to benefit local schools.

This year, the Education Committee had the privilege of visiting recipient schools to personally present the cheques and engage directly with school representatives to learn more about the projects the schools applied for.

THE BEGINNING OF BRIGHT FUTURES: 2025 TERTIARY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AWARDS $54,000

The Revesby Workers’ Tertiary Scholarship Program has already awarded a total of $54,000 in scholarships for 2025, helping local students pursue higher education. This initiative continues to support and empower the next generation of leaders by providing financial assistance to help them achieve their academic and career goals. With a focus on fostering ambition and talent, the program plays a crucial role in helping students take the next step toward their futures.

This year, we are excited to share some inspiring messages from our scholarship recipients! These individuals have shown exceptional commitment to their educational journeys, reflecting the core values of ambition, resilience, and community spirit.

I'm a 1st year university student currently undertaking a Bachelor of Arts at UNSW. I have been blessed to receive one of the Revesby Workers’ Scholarship Funds that will immensely help me in my studies. The scholarship's significance allows me to purchase the textbooks for my classes and partly subsidise the tuition cost. The scholarship means so much to me as it has allowed me to complete my studies this semester, as without the funds I would alternatively been working full time. I can't thank the Workers’ Club enough for the generosity in giving me the funding that has allowed me to continue to further my education without seriously delaying my life plans. Thank you so much Revesby Workers’ Club for their communal, giving nature.

I have always been an individual who is driven by the desire to learn and grow in all aspects of life. Although I am finished with high school, I am pursuing further studies with TAFE NSW to explore my passions further and develop an understanding in areas I am particularly interested in. I am incredibly honoured to be a recipient of a 2025 Revesby Workers’ Club Tertiary Scholarship as it will allow me to engross myself in my immediate and future studies. I aspire to live and work in an environment where I can foster community and cultural spirit, which are key values of the travel and tourism industry. My current study of a Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management is allowing me to broaden my perspective on an industry which I wish to dive headfirst into. I intend to continually seek out opportunities for growth as I head into my adult life.

I've wanted to be a lawyer for as long as I can remember, and this scholarship means a lot in helping me get there. Law school comes with many costs, and this support will help with essentials like textbooks, university fees, and travel. More importantly, it means I will have more time to put into things I’m passionate about - competing in law competitions, playing tennis, and volunteering to help high school and international students understand their basic legal rights. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited for what’s ahead!

Aatish Budhwani

Charlie Bayley
Kael Austin

I am truly grateful to be a recipient of this scholarship as it represents Revesby Workers’ Clubs ongoing support for its students and future leaders. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies and Bachelor of Commerce at UNSW, and this scholarship will enable me to immerse in my studies and professional development with reduced financial barriers. The support from this scholarship will ease the pressures of balancing work and academics, giving me the confidence and freedom to dedicate my passion in my studies. I deeply appreciate Revesby Workers’ investment in my future and I am committed to making the most out of this opportunity.

I am both delighted and grateful to be a recipient of the 2025 Revesby Workers’ Club Tertiary Education Scholarship. This financial support allows me to dedicate more time to pursuing a variety of extracurricular activities at the University of Technology Sydney. One of these activities is The Big Lift, a student-run volunteering organisation guided by the philosophy of "paying it forward." The Big Lift runs service projects, such as environmental conservation and refurbishments, in towns across Australia. I am confident that dedicating my extra time, thanks to this scholarship, to The Big Lift will help me develop both personally and professionally, as I connect with people from regional communities across Australia and face new experiences and challenges.

I am a first-year university student at the University of Technology Sydney, pursuing a degree in electrical engineering - a field which both excites and inspires me to innovate, solve problems and develop outgoing yet practical solutions to real-world systems. Receiving this scholarship from the Revesby Workers’ Club is not only an incredible honour and privilege, but also something I am truly grateful for. While this scholarship greatly alleviates the financial pressures that come with every academic journey, this support goes beyond financial assistance. It strengthens my motivation and focus, encouraging me to put in my best effort and pursue my goal of making meaningful contributions to the engineering industry. I deeply appreciate the wa greater opportunity where I can give back and inspire others, just as I have been supported on my journey.

As a law student at the University of New South Wales, my journey has been shaped by dedication, resilience, and a commitment to social justice and academic excellence. Balancing academics, part-time work, and community involvement has been both rewarding and challenging, which makes the support from the Revesby Workers’ Scholarship incredibly meaningful. The scholarship is an investment in my future and allows me to pursue opportunities like international exchange. It also enables me to dedicate more time to my rigorous studies, as well as community initiatives and volunteering. I am extremely grateful for this support, and I am excited to continue my journey.

I’m studying a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) at the University of Sydney. I have a deep interest in political economy, international law and renewable energy, and plan to pursue a career as a lawyer. Education is the world’s greater equaliser. When I graduate, I will be the second person in my family to have received a degree. This makes it all the more special that my studies will be supported by the Revesby Workers' Club. Receiving this scholarship will not only help cover essential expenses but also provide the motivation and support I need to fully dedicate myself to my studies and pursue postgraduate coursework in the near future. I am incredibly grateful for the Revesby Workers’ Club’s commitment to supporting local students. This initiative not only eases financial barriers but also recognises the transformative power of tertiary education for local communities.

INTRODUCING… PURPLE FRIDAYS!

A Club-Wide initiative to raise awareness and promote conversations about Domestic Violence and its impact on individuals and communities. The message is simple: NO to Violence, and YES to Respectful Relationships Commencing in May, every Friday, all staff across the Club will trade their usual uniform for a purple polo shirt.

Our Club will wear purple as a visible sign of support for survivors of domestic violence and to show solidarity with those who have been affected by it.

The idea behind wearing purple is to create a unified, strong, and visible message of support for victims while helping to break the silence around this issue. Purple is often associated with domestic violence awareness because it represents strength, courage, and dignity—qualities that many survivors of domestic violence exhibit as they rebuild their lives.

The Purple Friday’s initiative will strengthen the Club’s powerful partnership with Biyani House – Revesby Women’s Shelter, the only safe haven in the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA providing critical support to women and children fleeing domestic violence. In the past two years, reports of domestic violence within the LGA have surged by 17.1%, and a staggering 45% of women and children seeking homelessness assistance cite domestic and family violence as the primary cause. Despite these alarming statistics, many continue to suffer in silence, trapped in their circumstances and unable to escape.

Now is the time to take action. Let’s make an impact together!

In April, we held our Club-Wide Staff Meeting across two sessions—one in the morning and another in the evening—ensuring that all team members had the opportunity to participate.

These biannual meetings are vital touchpoints for our staff, covering important compliance topics such as Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing procedures, fire and evacuation protocols, and updates on Club initiatives. We also had the pleasure of announcing our annual Scholarship winners, recognising and supporting the future aspirations of our dedicated team members.

This year, we also introduced a new and important training component: Domestic Violence Responder Training

At Revesby Workers’, we are committed to raising awareness about domestic violence and empowering our staff with the knowledge to respond appropriately.

This initiative marks the beginning of an ongoing campaign, leading with our major awareness program: Purple Fridays

Domestic Violence Responder Training conducted by Arely Carrion, Head of Social Impact, ClubsNSW.

ATHLETICS (SENIOR)

Liaison Director: Daniel Kurtz Illawong Revesby Workers' Athletic club had 26 Junior athletes aged U15-U20s compete recently at the NSW Junior Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.

The following weekend IRWA had 22 Open athletes compete at the NSW Open Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.

The club had some outstanding results with the athletes coming away with a combined 10 medals.

The state competitions are the best opportunity to compete against the best in NSW and either obtain a National qualifying time or distance or finish on the podium to automatically qualify for Nationals.

Several of the IRWA junior athletes achieved National qualifiers at state and will be heading to Perth to compete at the beginning of April.

It was great to see so many of the junior athletes perform such amazing results they are all very excited to go to Perth and compete for their State.

As the summer season for athletics nears its end we prepare for our weekly Cross Country season. This will kick off on Saturday 24th April at Como - 2km at 2pm, 3km at 2.30pm and the 5km & 10km at 3pm. Meet near the beginning of the bridge. BOWLS – INDOORS (LADIES)

Liaison Director: David Raper

After a year of no games due to the renovations at the Club it was with great enthusiasm that we returned to playing on the 15th of January. For many it was a great opportunity to catch up and update each other on the events in their lives.

We would like to put together the history of our club however there are no paper records beyond 2010. A book was found with a notation dated 7-6-1996 and one of the ladies being made a Life Member which would point to the Club having been around for at least 10 years before this if not more. The President’s Cup Trophy has the first winner dated 1990.

This is as far as we have been able to go back so we are calling out to anyone that may have played then or who may know of someone that did. Unfortunately, we

do not have anyone playing today that goes back that far so any information would be grateful. My contact number is below.

Our AGM was held on the 19th of February with Alysha Green from RWC chairing the meeting. We welcome the committee for 2025

We are reaching out to anyone that would like to join our club.

Due to a multitude of reasons our numbers have dropped over the last few years and many women don’t know about us and would certainly have a great time if they joined us.

It’s a fun day and you don’t have to know how to play to join – members will eagerly teach you!!

Give me a call if you want to know more about us.

BOWLS – LAWN Liaison Director: David Raper

Our bowling year has been very busy with many events being played. The amalgamation of the men’s and ladies’ clubs has proved to be very successful. The morale and camaraderie at the club is high.

Our club has been saddened over the last few months by the passing of some of our valued members.

Just recently, Dennis Randall suffered a heart attack which was a huge shock to all. Dennis was a devoted bowler who bowled at every opportunity. He was a great club member and a loyal friend. He will be sadly missed.

At the end of last year, Maureen McKinley passed after a long battle with cancer. Maureen loved her bowling and was an inspiration to her fellow bowlers, who always put the interests of the bowlers first.

Lisa Ward and Ernie Wilson were valued past members of our club, and they passed at that time as well. May they all rest in peace and may their families and friends be comforted by loving memories of their loved ones.

The Women’s Major singles championship was well-contested by all. In the final, Elizabeth Griffin defeated Betty Davidson in a challenging game.

We wish Elizabeth well as she moves on to contest the Regional Champion of Champions contest.

The Women’s club triples are currently being contested. The finalists are Phyllis

Merrell, Ellie Atme and Sue Semlitzky who will play Fay Shean, Jan Pennell and Elizabeth Griffin. Enjoy a good game ladies.

The annual Terry Raper Melanoma challenge was played in March. This was a successful day with bowlers completing four games of tens ends on an extremely hot day. Bowlers from many clubs joined us for day with a young side from Padstow winning the day.

The club consistency contest was played in good spirit and saw Peter Shean and Darryl Oehlman reaching the final. In a high-quality game, Peter defeated Darryl. Well-played gents!

In the Major/Minor competition, the final is set to be played between Ellie Atme / Shane Matakaiongo (Spiff) and Ross Gage / Laurie Wilson. Congratulations and best wishes for a good game.

The Mixed Fours championships has also reached the finals where Pat Tate, Geoff Tate, Robert McFarland and Jan Calderon will compete against Fay Shean, Peter Shean, Sandra Weekes and Dave Raper.

Good game to all.

The Regional Pennants competition has kept all players busy and engaged. The Club has entered one Grade 5 team and two Grade 7 teams. All teams are playing well for our club with our goal to reach the regional play-offs.

We are on a break now with the competition resuming in a few weeks. Go Workers'!!!

The Club Mixed Pairs will commence in late March. This is always a popular and well-contested competition. The Ladies Minor Singles and the Under 5’s challenge will also be played in April.

This will be followed by the Ladies Consistency contest in May.

Twilight bowls on Friday evenings has been popular and well-attended.

Bowlers play for two hours and then enjoy a drink and perhaps dinner with their teammates. It is great fun. Thank you, Tony Finneran, for organising it once again this year and we thank Andrew Raper for his support.

We are always looking to welcome new bowlers to our Club. Coaching is provided for inexperienced bowlers. Social bowling is played on Wednesday afternoons, Thursday mornings and

Saturday afternoons. If interested, please contact our President, Geoff Went (0407 204 139) or our Vice President, Dianne Oliver (0412 738 320).

See you on the green.

Liaison Director: Trevor Heaslip

Another season done and dusted!

It was disappointing that we fielded no junior sides this season, but this reflected the overall decline in numbers in the district. We did have 3 children participate in the Blasters program for littlies!

We had 3 senior teams this season, down from 6 last season. Two of last season’s teams did not return and two had to decide to merge, as they each had insufficient numbers to field teams.

In the end there were too many players in some teams, meaning that some players did not get the opportunity to play as many matches as they would have liked.

Our 4th Grade side moved from 6th Grade last season, performed very well, and did our Club proud. They finished 3rd on the ladder, but lost their semifinal on a very hot weekend, while most were fasting for Ramadan.

We congratulate Zak, Imran and the team on another great season with The Workers and look forward to another great season starting September.

Two of the other senior sides from last season, 1st Grade and one of the 5th Grade sides were merged into a 3rd Grade side and represented Revesby Workers Cricket Club admirably. They took out their minor premiership, won the major semi-final and are about to play their Grand Final as I write this report.

Thank you to Ryan, Paul, Danny and Richard for all your efforts with the merged team and for playing with the right attitude. Very proud of you all.

The other team was one of the 5th Grade sides from last season, which remained in 5th Grade this season. They did not originally qualify for the semi-finals but received a last-minute invitation to play in the minor semi-final when a team had to make the sad decision to withdraw due to lack of numbers.

Our side played brilliantly, winning the semi- but unfortunately went down in

the Preliminary Final. Great effort, team.

The 2025 Masters Cup (Over 35s Super 8s) is due to run from May until the end of July at Vale of Ah, and promises to be loads of fun, as usual.

Hopefully, our team will again be competitive and maybe bring home the shield like they did last season.

We look forward to holding our Presentations during winter and will start signing on for the next summer comp. from 1 July on-line – just visit the “Play Cricket “site and enter your postcode –Revesby Workers' Cricket Club will be one of your options, which I hope you will choose!

GARDEN CLUB

Liaison Director: Christine Butters February marked the start of another exciting year for the Garden Club. Our guest speaker was Danielle Corrie who presented her book, Teida’s Story: Life through the Eyes of a Dog. Here she shared the unique relationship she developed with her Staffie cross, Teida.

In March we had a double celebration! With our 36th birthday (and the usual birthday cake), the Garden Club also awarded President Val Kennedy with a most deserved Life Membership.

Val joined the Garden Club in 2013 and in succeeding years took on various positions in the executive committee.

She was voted President in 2019 and since then, together with an extremely capable set of committee officers, helped the club become the success it is now.

We look forward to seeing our April guest speaker again. He is Gav Kleinhans, aka the Postie Geezer who travels around Australia for charity. His mission is to raise funds for the Medecins sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders), a very noble undertaking indeed.

For May we have invited Stephen Cassettari, who will discuss Chinese brush painting, complete with demonstrations.

We will have our Spring Tour this year on Saturday, 31st May, many thanks to our Tour Organizer Claire. We will be visiting the Camellia Grove Nursery in Glenorie. After a sit-down lunch at the Galston Club, we will visit Swane’s Nursery,

mainly a rose lover’s delight.

Later this year we plan to have a photo competition, with prizes on offer. We hope to be able to sync with the annual Garden Clubs of Australia photo competition, which offers sizable prizes and the chance to be featured not only in the official magazine but also in their annual calendar.

Do keep in touch with Garden Club activities via the Sports Reports section of the Revesby Workers' Club Journal and our website rwcgarden.com.

Our monthly meetings are held every first Saturday at the Workers' Club and open with our guest speaker at 10 am.

Members and visitors are welcome to always join.

HOCKEY (WOMENS’)

Liaison Director: Christine Benham

The Hockey Ladies are about to kick off their season, and what a big season we are looking at having!

Firstly, we kick off at Narallan in the MacArthur Hockey Comp at the start of April. We are incredibly excited as this year we see some ladies returning from having babies, studying or just from some time out.

We also welcome a brand-new addition to the team, playing her first season with her Mum, Emma.

This is just another Mum/Daughter duo in the long tradition we have at the club!

We are incredibly lucky to have our C Grade team defending their title this year, however, we are super excited to have joined forces with another club to create a mixed B grade team. We are looking forward to the opportunities this will give our players this year.

The most exciting part of our year will be in May, when we head off to Taiwan to play in the World Masters Games!! We have 2 teams heading over and competing in the 35- and 55-year age groups.

We have worked hard fundraising for the last 18 months and are so incredibly thankful to all the support from RWC, Christine Benham, Board of Directors, and all our other supporters have given us to help make this opportunity become a reality.

We can’t wait to report back on our time away in Taiwan!

If you are looking at returning or trying hockey, please contact us. We welcome all skill levels, however you must be turn 14 this year or older.

LADIES GROUP

Liaison Director: Christine Butters

We returned from our break after enjoying our end of year Christmas Luncheon held in the new function rooms.

This year we have already started to plan activities and trips for our group. We had a lovely this month to Bundeena and lunch at the local club there.

Revesby Workers' Club have kindly placed a sign on the building to identify the ‘MacArthur Room’ on the corner of MacArthur Avenue & Dixon Lane.

At the end of the year, one of our previous members, Nancy Goman, passed away. Our condolences to her family and friends.

Should you like to make new friends and participate in our group, please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.

We are always happy to welcome new members.

First Wednesday of the month we have a bus trip unless otherwise changed.

Second Wednesday onwards, Group Weekly Venue, MacArthur Room Corner of MacArthur Avenue & Dixon Lane REVESBY NSW 2212 from 9:30am

NETBALL CLUB

Liaison Director: Christine Benham

It was with great eagerness and enthusiasm that we finally headed back to Netball with the start of the 2025 season.

We are excited to welcome back our returning members and all our new players and families.

This year we have registered 19 teams ranging from our 5- & 6-year-old academy players right up to our seniors.

We also have a dedicated team of umpires who give their time and skills each week, not only to umpire our games, but to also utilise their expertise to train our young umpires.

The season kicked off on the 5th of April

at Deverell Park and runs through until September. It has been a great start to the season, and we have loved watching our players come together as teams and seeing their hard work but more importantly their love for netball.

The annual March Past to start the season saw all our teams come together to represent Revesby Workers' Club and was fabulous to watch.

Also, we thank all our players who participated in the ANZAC Day march and joined Club Directors and other Sub Club members to pay our respects to the men and woman who sacrificed so much. Lest We Forget.

Our 2025 Executive and Committee were elected at our Annual General Meeting, and we are grateful for their commitment to our club.
