BLANC PAIGE INK By Paula Howell

I stood before the mirror of the lobby corporate tower, reflected by the image of a woman dressed in a silk shirt, trousers, and heels. It was a familiar image, most assuredly—Paula Howell, a modern-day woman, mother, entrepreneur, wife. Yet, as I gazed into the mirror, a melancholic discontent engulfed me. What had brought me to this moment? Perhaps prompted by the impending arrival of my 45th birthday, the weighty divorce papers resting on my desk, and the witnessing of my daughter's second-grade journey unfolding. These catalysts catapulted me into a realm of introspection, demolishing the walls of my prescribed security and projected success. My early year values were rooted in a solid Catholic upbringing, anchoring my innocence, and grounding a naivety around boundaries. It was at the age of 9, grooming started by a trusted family member, who later sexually abused me at 12. I survived through dissociation, recognizing that within society's perception of perfection, success, and beauty, were the ideal decoy for trauma. The abuse was finally exposed when I was sixteen––exposed and then promptly dismissed. It was in that unspoken acknowledgment, I began to comprehend the intergenerational cycle of my family of "ignorance as bliss." Within an atmosphere of dissolution of my self worth, I found solace through journaling, discernment, and, later, therapy. Following profound personal growth and extensive healing, nurtured through a genuine friendship, which later solidified at 21 when we were married, I re-assessed my outlook on life, relocating to Australia together, I earned a Bachelor of Education with honors in Early Learning Development and Psychology. Additionally, I became a Certified Neuro Linguistic Practitioner, and Time Line Therapist. At 30, I braved into entrepreneurship, by launching Jessi Howell Cosmetics. The brand embraced the ethos of "Why fit in when you can stand out?" aimed to inspire self acceptance, with a notable portion of PUD line proceeds donated to child advocacy groups. It was in its conception I discovered respite in overexertion and accomplishment, societycelebrated addiction.

I was an accomplished adult, a loving wife, holding positions in academia and entrepreneurship, yet I still faced challenges that made me feel powerless, unworthy, and void of self identity. In those moments, I turned inward and sought inspiration from luminaries such as Maya Angelou, Stuart Wilde, Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, and Iyanla Vanzant. Additionally, I reconnected with source energy through meditation and silent hikes, using these practices as tools to find support and inner strength. After seven years of estrangement from my immediate family, coinciding with seven years of marriage, I reached a pivotal realization that our friendship would always remain steadfast. Consequently, we divorced, leaving everything behind. I embarked on a new chapter waiting to be written in British Columbia, Canada. I remarried at 39, and we welcomed our daughter, Paige. As the CEO and founder of a leading education consulting firm, a homeowner, and the adored wife, I seemingly had it all. However, the stark reality hit me: life had repeated itself. I saw familiar patterns in my daughter's eyes, reflecting my disillusionment with reality. Within my self-constructed "witness protection program," I bore witness to these patterns. This forced me into a radical acceptance of my truth, accompanied by intense grief and yearning for safety over the turbulence of self-growth. I decided to separate from my husband, creating space to confront unresolved wounds, including past abuse, workaholic tendencies, struggles with balancing motherhood, issues of self-worth, and boundary setting. Each revealed truth brought forth a whirlwind of emotions—fear, sadness, shame, anger, grief, and uncertainty. Setting boundaries and expressing raw feelings were my realized kryptonite. In a place of profound release, I found my breath, self connection and a steadfastness in survivors. As a Transformational Coach and advocate, I founded Blanc Paige Ink, determined to break society's cycle of ignorance. Today I share my story, as the most transformative step, liberating me from the weight of long-held silence. Through this vulnerability, I forged genuine connections with others, enabling me to embrace every part of myself while encouraging others to do the same. This journey revealed my capacity to give and receive conscious love, permanently altering my life's course. No longer silenced by shame, I've realized that success takes compassion, patience, and courage. Through connection, we can triumph over the Goliath of stigma, rewrite and dismantle the narrative, and forgive. Today, as I gaze into the mirror, the reflection is consciously chosen, bound by nothing, free. Beyond the reality of this human experience lies a tapestry of words woven with threads of extraordinary strength and selfcompassion. Blanc Paige Ink is a testament to the power of self-reflection and resilience, inspiring the embrace of individual narratives. As you forgive self, and lean into self-compassion by honoring past, and present self, you dismantle previous notions of what life is supposed to be, and start scribing one that you consciously construct. Culinary Star

ANNE BURRELL Dishing on Food, Fame, and Living Life with Flair By Michael Travin In the vast culinary tapestry, few names gleam as brilliantly as Anne Burrell. With over 20 years lighting up our screens as a star and host on Food Network, her dynamic presence has become synonymous with genuine passion, hands-on expertise, and, of course, delectable food. Beyond the lights and cameras, Anne's multifaceted persona unfolds—revealing an aficionado of design, an ardent traveler, and a woman deeply in love with the romance of Italy. In an intimate conversation with Resident Magazine, Anne offers a peek into her illustrious career, the intimate corners of her Brooklyn apartment, and her wanderlust-driven escapades. So, let’s delve deep into the exuberant universe of Anne Burrell. Q: Anne, with a career spanning over two decades on the Food Network, how do you keep your passion for the culinary arts alive? Anne Burrell: Food Network has truly been a second home. My journey began with "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef," where I had the chance to share some trade secrets with the audience. Then there was "Worst Cooks in America," which was an absolute blast. Helping people find their culinary feet and transform from kitchen novices to confident cooks was so rewarding. I also had the joy of co-hosting "Chef Wanted with Anne Burrell" and "Beat Bobby Flay." Each show brought its own set of challenges and memories, and I'm grateful for every moment.

58 | resident.com

There is also the joy of learning. In our industry, every day offers something new. From mastering techniques to discovering flavors, my education is perpetually in session. Plus, I adore the people in this industry. Their creativity, unique outlooks on life, and the sense of community keep me deeply entrenched in my culinary pursuits. Q: Speaking of “Worst Cooks in America”, how does it feel to teach individuals who are so green in the kitchen? Anne Burrell: I loved the show very much because on this surface, it's a circus. You see these people in an intense bootcamp and what we ask these people to do is physically and mentally exhausting for many.

It's both a challenge and a pleasure. Seeing their transformation and growth over the weeks is incredibly rewarding. It's a reminder that with the right guidance and passion, anyone can master the art of cooking and go from really truly the worst to proficient and adequate, bordering on really pretty good. Q: Over the years, you've become synonymous with Italian cuisine. What draws you to Italy so much? Anne Burrell: It's where my culinary soul truly found its footing. From the rich pastas of Bologna to the aromatic truffles of Alba, Italy, has been my muse. My time there helped me master the intricacies of Italian cuisine, and it's a place I revisit, both in memory and in person, as often as I can. Every region has its own signature dishes, which means there's always something new to discover. Q: Beyond Italy, where else does your culinary curiosity take you? Anne Burrell: Europe in general is a treasure trove. But there are still places I'm yet to explore fully—like Central America. I've never been to Asia, but I dream of experiencing the street foods in Vietnam and Cambodia. Travel offers a chance to immerse yourself in different cultures, and every destination has its unique flavor profile waiting to be discovered. Q: Besides your work, you've created a beautiful sanctuary in Brooklyn. Tell us about your design aesthetic and the essence of your apartment. Anne Burrell: I think that I would make bolder choices than most people would, and my world is full of color and pattern, joy and happiness. And then you throw in sort of a kind of classic sort of nod to things that are antiquey yet also utilitarian in the kitchen and very comfortable.

COVER | RESIDENT When I was looking for an apartment, I wanted something that had good bones yet unique and quirky and that's exactly what I found. It was a white box that needed a giant facelift and had not been given any love for a long time. My home is located in an old factory building that was really sturdy with high ceilings, lots of windows and columns that look kind of industrial. In this space I was able to build my dream kitchen with Miele appliances that are a mix between commercial and residential appliances. The kitchen and living room comprise one big space because I love to entertain and wanted to a urban farmhouse style. Because my husband is English, I wanted to use hunter green on the cabinets mixed with highly pigmented colors. What are the dishes that you most like to cook at home? During the week when I'm cooking for my husband and myself, I try to keep things a little bit on the lighter side, because when we go out that's more of a sort of a splurge. I've been doing a lot of tomato with tuna dishes, chicken paillard with tomato and cucumber salad, and pasta with tomatoes and corn. Mother Nature is exploding right now, and we are eating very much in that direction right now. Tell us about your Prince Charming that you recently married, and what makes your relationship so special? We waited to get married. I feel like everything happens when it's supposed to. If I had met Stuart at a different time in my life, I would not have been ready for him. We met on Bumble and I feel like when I swiped right, it was almost like sparks came out of my phone, I just knew there was something special about this. From day one we have never been apart. We both knew that it just fit and was just right. Three years after we met, we got married in my little town in upstate New York and we had the most fun wedding possible. We took over the whole little town and it was a whole weekend affair. It was everything that we wanted it to be,that was joyful and happy, and the sheer celebration was such a blast.

GRILLED PIZZETTA WITH STRACCHINO, SAUSAGE, ARUGULA & CHILI OIL

Makes: 6. Time: 1½ hours, mostly unattended

For the chili oil Bring the chilies and oil to a simmer in a small saucepan; remove from the heat and let the peppers steep in the oil for at least an hour or until the dough has risen and you’re ready to make the pizzas. This can be done WAY in advance. For the dough 1. While the oil steeps (look at you—multitasking!), combine the yeast, sugar, and ½ cup warm (NOT HOT!) water in a small bowl. Stir to combine and let sit for 10 to 15 minutes until foamy and yeasty- smelling. 2. Combine the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl; make a well in the center of the flour and add the olive oil and the yeast mixture. Using a fork, stir until the flour and liquids are well combined. Turn the dough out onto a well-floured, clean work surface and knead until smooth and elastic, 6 to 7 minutes. Lightly coat the mixing bowl with olive oil, return the dough to the bo l, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size, about 1 hour. I love the charred flavor of grilled pizza. You can top it with anything, of course, but this version is one of my favorites. It’s crispy and crunchy, kind of like a grilled cracker. Whenever I eat pizza I always give it a sprinkey-dink of crushed red pepper—it’s just better with a little kick! That’s why I make this infused oil for my pizzetta. It’s an amazing way to get a big flavor bump, and while I love this chili oil on pizza, it’s great on lots and lots of things.

3. When the dough is ready, portion it into six golfball-size pieces. Dust a work surface with flour and roll each piece of dough into a rectangle (or whatever shape you like; I like irregular shapes). If you’re not using the dough right away, wrap each ball individually in plastic and refrigerate until ready to use.

MISE EN PLACE:

1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. and preheat the grill.

For the chili oil • 5 to 6 Fresno chili peppers, roughly chopped 1½ cups extra virgin olive oil

2. Coat a large sauté pan with oil, add the sausage, and bring to medium heat. Cook the sausage until brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and reserve.

For the dough • 1½ teaspoons active dry yeast • ½ teaspoon sugar • 1½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more as needed • ½ teaspoon kosher salt • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, plus more for the bowl and grill For the pizza topping • Extra virgin olive oil • ½ pound sweet Italian sausage, casings removed • 1 pound stracchino or other mild, creamy cheese, such as ricotta, Taleggio, or Fontina, at room temperature • 1 bunch of arugula, trimmed

For the topping and pizza assembly

3. Brush the grill with oil and arrange each piece of dough on the grill; you might need to work in batches here. Grill until the dough is stiff and crisp and has lovely grill marks on it, then flip and repeat on the second side, moving occasionally so the bottom doesn’t burn. 4. Put the pizzas on baking sheets, schmear each with some stracchino, top with sausage, and put as many pizzas as will comfortably fit in the oven; bake until the cheese has melted, 5 to 7 minutes. Again, you may have to work in batches. Remove the pizzas from the oven, top with arugula, and drizzle with the deliciously spicy chili oil! Mamma mia, whatta pizza!

WHOLE WHEAT PAPPARDELLE With Roasted Butternut Squash, Broccoli Rabe & Pumpkin Seeds Serves 6 to 8 | Time: About 45 Minutes with Premade Pasta Dough

This is an amazing dish because it takes everyday ingredients and joins them in a delicious and unexpected collaboration. Both the squash and the broccoli rabe have their own strong personalities-one sweet and one bitter-and each brings something to the party that would be sorely missed if one of them didn't show up. Combined with the nutty, earthy flavor of the whole wheat pasta, this is what I call a real team effort. MISE EN PLACE • 1 butternut squash, peeled and cut into ½-inch dice • Extra virgin olive oil • Kosher salt • 1 bunch of broccoli rabe, tough bottom stems removed • 3 cloves garlic, smashed • Pinch of crushed red pepper • 1½ cups veggie or chicken stock • 1 recipe Chef Anne's All-Purpose Pasta Dough (page 102), whole wheat variation (see page 103), cut into pappardelle, or 1 pound fresh pappardelle • 1 cup freshly grated Parmigiano Big fat finishing oil • ½ cup pepitas (green pumpkin seeds), toasted

62 | resident.com

DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F 2. In a large bowl, toss the butternut squash with just enough olive oil to lightly coat it and sprinkle with salt. Put the squash on a baking sheet and roast for about 20 minutes, or until soft. Reserve. 3. Bring a large pot of well-salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli rabe, give it a swish, and immediately remove it from the water; save the water to cook the pasta. When the rabe is cool enough to handle, coarsely chop it and set aside. 4. Coat a large wide saucepan generously with olive oil. Toss in the garlic and red pepper and bring to medium heat. When the garlic is golden brown and very aromatic, 2 to 3 minutes, remove it from the pan and ditch it-it has fulfilled its garlic destiny. Add the roasted squash and the stock to the pan. When the stock has reduced by about half, 5 to 6 minutes, add the broccoli rabe. 5. In the meantime, bring the broccoli rabe water back to a boil, add the pasta, and cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until tender but tooth-some. Drain the pasta and add it, along with ½ cup reserved pasta cooking water, to the squash and rabe. When the pasta water has evaporated, remove the pan from the heat, add about two thirds of the Parmigiano, and add a big drizzle of the big fat finishing oil. Toss or stir vigorously to combine. Divide among serving bowls and top with more Parm and the pepitas.

What makes your relationship work? I think it starts where we're both Virgos, and we both have the Virgo mentality—we want things organized with our own systems. But it's kind of a deeper understanding, and we are complementary. We have a similar mentality, but not the same. We are work hard, play hard kind of people. We like to have fun and remember that laughing is important and healthy, and together time is great, but so is alone time. Tell us about your signature hair style. It’s my nod to the ’80s rockers punk style. Stuart is English and we grew up in the same era so he appreciates my style. Which culinary luminary has been your inspiration? Julia Child. I would say she is my culinary goddess. Q: Before we wrap up, any final thoughts or messages for your fans and readers? Anne Burrell: Being on the Food Network for a long time has really been an honor and a privilege. I feel very lucky to be in this position and to have had my career. I'm very, very grateful and still love it to this day. Anne Burrell's vibrant spirit and boundless enthusiasm for her craft have cemented her place as one of the culinary world's leading figures. ANNE BURRELL’S RAVIOLO AL’UOVO (RICOTTA-NESTLED EGG YOLK)

Serves: 8 Time: About 30 minutes with premade pasta dough

DIRECTIONS 1. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta, Parm, parsley, and 2 whole eggs; mix well and season with salt. 2. Dust a clean work surface lightly with all-purpose flour and lay out two sheets of pasta about 12 inches long; brush them lightly with water. Equally space 4 dollops of the ricotta mixture on each pasta sheet; then use a spoon to make a "nest" or small hole in the center of each dollop. Carefully separate the remaining eggs (reserve the whites for another purpose) and put a yolk in each ricotta "nest''—the ricotta should lovingly nestle each yolk (if a yolk breaks, scoop it out with a spoon and don't use it). 3. Cover the ricotta nests and egg yolk with another sheet of pasta. Use your index fingers to press around each ricotta nest to seal the edges, then use a nuted ring cutter or dough roller to cut around each ravioli (they should be 3 to 4 inches in diameter). Reserve the ravioli on a tray generously dusted with semolina. 4. Bring a large pot of well-salted water to a boil. In a large saute pan, melt half the butter and add half of the chicken stock (you're going to use the remainder for your next batch); season with salt and toss in half the sage. Bring this to a boil (BTB) and reduce to a simmer (RTS). ZUCCHINI CANNELLONI WITH FRESH TOMATO SAUCE

Makes: About 16 cannelloni Time: About 1 1/2 hours

For the cannelloni 1. Cut each zucchini lengthwise, removing one-third off one long side of the squash, to expose a long wide flat area. Using a mandolin, cut the zucchini into wide, flat 1/8-inch thick slices. The goal is to get 12 of the widest slices possible, so be choosey and use the middle of the zucchini for this—a couple extra slices for safety never hurts. 2. Cut the remaining rounded edge pieces of zucchini into ¼-inch dice. 3. Bring a medium saucepan of well-salted water to a boil. 4. Coat a large sauté pan with olive oil and toss in the 2 smashed garlic cloves and crushed red pepper. Bring the pan to medium-high heat. When the garlic is golden and very aromatic, 1 to 2 minutes, remove it and ditch it—it has fulfilled its garlic destiny. Add the diced zucchini, season with salt, and cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until the zucchini begins to soften. Transfer the zucchini to a medium mixing bowl and let cool. 5. Working in batches, cook the zucchini slices in the salted boiling water for 1 minute or until the zucchini begins to soften. Use a slotted spoon to remove the slices from the water and lay them out on a baking sheet to cool 6. When the sautéed zucchini is cool, stir in the ricotta, grated Parm, and half the basil. Taste and season with salt if needed … it probably will. 7. Pat the slices of zucchini dry with paper towels and lay them on a work surface. Take 1 tablespoon of the ricotta mixture on the end of each zucchini slice, carefully roll up the slices, return them to the baking sheet, and reserve. For the sauce 1. Coat a large sauté pan with olive oil and toss in the onion. Season with salt and a pinch of crushed red pepper and bring the pan to medium heat. Cook until the onion is soft and aromatic, 6 to 8 minutes. Toss in the chopped garlic and cook for 1 to 2 more minutes

ANNE-NOTATION: A mandolin is essential for success in this recipe. Also, you can make your own Homemade Ricotta, but store-bought is just fine. Mise en Place • For the cannelloni • 3 medium zucchini • Kosher salt • Extra virgin olive oil • 2 cloves garlic, smashed • A pinch of crushed red pepper • 1 cup Homemade Ricotta or store-bought • 1 cup grated Parmigiano plus more for garnish • 1 bunch of fresh basil, picked and cut into a chiffonade

For the sauce • Extra virgin olive oil • ½ onion, cut into ¼-inch dice • Kosher salt • Pinch of crushed red pepper • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped • 3 large beefsteak tomatoes, cored, seeded, and cut into ¼-inch dice • 1 cup baby arugula

2. Stir in the tomatoes and season with salt. Continue to cook for another 8 to 10 minutes. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Toss in the remaining basil and reserve. To assemble 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. 2. Put the zucchini “roll-ups” in the oven for 10 minutes or until they are just warmed through 3. Place the tomato sauce over medium heat to warm. 4. In a small bowl, toss the arugula with a little olive oil and salt. Arrange the arugula in the center of 4 serving plates. Lay 3 zucchini rolls in a line on top of each arugula pile and spoon the sauce over the zucchini. Top with Parmigiano and serve.

DR. BARRY WEINTRAUB

Brings Award-Winning Services to Local and International Patients By Clara morgan

The prominent medical professional holds the coveted title of “One of America’s Best Plastic Surgeons 2023” from Newsweek. Dr. Barry Weintraub, a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing at the heart of New York on Fifth Avenue and 61st Street, has recently been named one of “America's Best Plastic Surgeons in 2023” for facelift surgery by Newsweek. Top professionals in the field have recognized Dr. Weintraub by voting for him in this prestigious publication, which recently released its annual list of the Best Plastic Surgeons for 2023.

and/or revisionary surgery, or a noninvasive plan involving skincare and injectable, lasers, microneedling, or any number of noninvasive approaches.

"I am truly honored to be recognized by Newsweek as one of the best plastic surgeons for 2023," said Dr. Weintraub. "I am dedicated to providing my patients with the highest quality of medical and plastic-surgical care, as well as delivering the most sophisticated, age-appropriate results, always with a keen eye toward natural attractiveness.”

“You should never be able to tell that someone had surgery. Less is always more!” ssays Dr. Weintraub. “I have made it my mission to give patients the most understated and natural results while avoiding the telltale signs of surgery.”

Dr. Weintraub shares this philosophy with his entire staff, who provide an atmosphere of respect and compassion. Every patient admitted to his surgical facility experiences not just a personalized interaction, but also a personalized plan for their overall aesthetic – whether it be a surgical plan encompassing facelift, neck lift, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), rhinoplasty,

98 | resident.com

Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Barry Weintraub has over 30 years of experience and has earned a reputation for his exceptionally natural-looking results.

For his facelifts, he hides all incisions inside the tragus in the ear so that the hairline incision is not visible. For his rhinoplasty patients, he either employs the “closed” technique – or for the “open” approach, he sews with suture material finer than a human hair (as he does with his upper-eyelid surgeries). Painstakingly, he sews all incisions under loupe magnification for the thinnest incisions possible.

“There are many different modalities to correct skin laxity, jowl formation, deep nasolabial folds, turkey-gobble necks, eye bags, plunging nasal tips, and bumps on noses. It’s always my pleasure to help educate patients as to what meets their needs and fits their lifestyles.” A regular recipient of the titles “Best Plastic Surgeons in America” and “Best Doctors in New York” by Castle Connolly, Dr. Weintraub holds in high regard the ideals he was taught at Cornell, both in medical school as well as his plastic-surgical fellowship, during a time when patient care and compassion were almost religiously revered. Dr. Weintraub believes that physicians should be welcoming and respectful and must never lose sight that it’s a sacred privilege to operate on another human being. Each patient is a person possessing real-life issues and concerns. “Surgery is not a horse race,” he states, “and taking time is essential to patient safety, as well as ensuring an outstanding, understated and natural-looking result.” For more information, please visit www.drbarryweintraub.com I: @drbarryweintraub F: DRBarryWeintraub X / T: @barryweintraub LOCATION: 800A Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10065 T: (212) 737-7500

POWERHOUSE ARTIST DON HERSHMAN SELECTED TO EXHIBIT AT MVVO AD ART SHOW 2023 By Elizabeth darwen MvVO ART, the creator of AD ART SHOW, in partnership with the Clio Awards, proudly presents the AD ART SHOW 2023, unearthing the vibrant fine artists emerging from the advertising world. This unique showcase will take place at Powerhouse Arts, a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression. This year artist Don Hershman has been selected to be exhibited during the celebrated event. Hershman's most recent exhibition entitled “The Art of Code Switching” sold to art collectors from across the globe who attended his recent September 21 show in New York City at the renowned Salomon Arts Gallery. In recent years Hershman’s career has been catapulted to soaring heights. His prolific paintings have exhibited around America and artwork has sold out shows from Manhattan to Art Basel Miami as famed Provincetown, Massachusetts during a peak summer show. A prior series also at Salomon Arts Gallery in 2021 titled, “Donald and Victor: Under the Influence” sold out within days of display. His internationally recognized work has been honored several times in recent years and awards include the 2020 Jury Selection at the de Young Museum, as well as top recognition in the 2022 MvVO ART/AD art show, which saw his work displayed in the iconic Oculus building in Manhattan. Don Hershman leads a dual life of accomplished podiatric surgeon and fine art painter. As a child, Don Hershman was profoundly influenced by his field trips to the world-class museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He fantasized about becoming an artist, drawing incessantly, creating sketchbooks, and experimenting with color well into high school. When it came time to choose a career, he felt compelled to lock in a secure path that pointed toward medicine. During medical school and surgical residency, he continued to draw, enabling him to better conceptualize the intricate spatial relationships between anatomical structures. As with a scalpel, he began to perfect his command of the pencil and paintbrush.

100 | resident.com

Donald went on to receive his BA in premed with psychology from State University of New York at Buffalo and trained in podiatry at California college of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco before establishing his own private practice there in the early 1980s. As he was building his medical practice, Don was also evolving a body of artwork, exploring various media in the form of drawings and paintings, and finding his voice as an artist. While hosting a party in 1992, with many of his new artworks hanging in his home, Donald was invited by a guest, a curator at the Spectrum Gallery, to participate in a group show she was organizing. To his surprise, all of his pieces in that show sold, giving Donald the confidence and inspiration he needed to push on more seriously with his art. Hershman’s work is exhibited in solo and group shows nationally and internationally, and is included in private collections. In 2020, one of Hershman’s pieces was jury selected for a group show at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. In May 2021, he had a successful show, Under the Influence: Donald and Victor, at Salomon Arts Gallery in New York. In 2022, Hershman had a solo exhibition in Provincetown, MA during Bear Week and will be exhibiting regularly in SF and nationally. He is currently working on his new Barn series, exploring old structures at 2 times the size he normally paints in.

The AD ART SHOW was founded with the intention of bridging the artistic disciplines of fine art and advertising. Drawing inspiration from artists like Andy Warhol and Edward Hopper, whose roots in commercial art informed a pioneering career in the fine art market, the AD ART SHOW seeks to celebrate the practices of artists working in the commercial advertising industry, offering a new lens by which to appreciate their practice. The AD ART SHOW 2023 showcases today's artists treading similar paths and beginning to carve their niche in the annals of art history. Maria van Vlodrop, Founder of MvVO ART/AD ART SHOW, stated, “The bridge between art and advertising has been both historical and impactful. At AD ART SHOW 2023, we're unveiling the next wave of artists poised to leave their mark.” The crowning moment will see a standout artist receiving the esteemed Clio Award. Beyond this honor, the top ten artists will be showcased on OUTFRONT billboards nationally, throughout the United States, with the top three displayed in Times Square.
