HENNING

FROM GERMANY TO SNOWMASS

RAHM Henning moved to the United States in 2007 and instantly fell in love with the Roaring Fork Valley. He joined Limelight Hotels in 2011 and hasn’t looked back. Henning currently oversees the Limelight Hotels in Aspen and Snowmass. Henning’s favorite Snowmass activity? That’s easy. When he isn’t pedaling between Aspen and Snowmass, you’ll find him skiing his favorite mountain: Snowmass, of course, with its wide-open runs and plenty of room for exploration. His favorite run is High Alpine, but he says what really makes skiing in Snowmass special is enjoying a glass of wine and some amazing food at Sam’s after a day on the slopes.

The opportunity to manage the Viceroy Snowmass originally brought Robert to the valley. He wanted to be a part of the future of Snowmass and felt his role at the resort would give him a chance to contribute to the transformation of this truly special mountain community.

VICEROYHOTELSANDRESORTS.COM | 970-923-8000 challenged my colleagues that if we received the #1 ski resort by USA Today, we’d get a dunk tank for the patio in the middle winter and all our staff would get a chance to dunk me and the executive committee, which of course they all took great joy in.

ROBERT’S VICEROY FAVES: The Spa at Viceroy Snowmass — After a day on the slopes or a summer hike, indulge in a soothing treatment at our relaxing, tranquil oasis. It’s one of the most amazing ways to recharge. Toro — Fill up on contemporary pan-Latin dishes from acclaimed chef Richard Sandoval. Along with eclectic entrées and satisfying small plates, the upscale bar offers a premium wine list and inventive cocktails in a cozy yet contemporary setting.

NEST — Our poolside restaurant serves an inspired lunch and delicious après menu all summer and winter long. Stop by for some of my favorite menu options, like the grilled shrimp and crispy noodle salad.

PRO TIP RE. THE SKI HILL BEYOND THE AURUM DOORS: Any terrain that takes a bit of work to get to is worth the reward, Patrick says.

29 30 PHILLIPS PATRICK AURUMASPENSNOWMASS.COM 970-429-4906 OWNERS AURUM, Why Snowmass Base Village? “It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world,” Phillips “Thesays.terrain, the people, and the unique experiences one can have,” Patrick adds.

The name came from Phillips’s mother: The Latin word for “gold” suited the new restaurant she saw as her son’s golden opportunity. The Philadelphia native made the most of it, turning his idea for pairing refined, seasonal New American cuisine with exceptional, personalized service into its own hospitality group. The professional growth of his employees has been an unremitting focus, one manifest in longtime Aurum chef Patrick now serving as co-owner. “He helped me build this,” Phillips says. “He should be a part of it.”

ARMSTRONG FUNK

Kenichi, a mainstay for pan-Asian cuisine and sushi in the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond for more than three decades, has come to Snowmass Base Village. Who else to make it happen but man of Swedish heritage from Fort Collins, Colorado? Brent served as the Kenichi accountant before taking the restaurant group’s reins, and he’s excited about chef Justin Lightsey and his talented team’s prospects at the new location.
