Jazz! and Beyond CarSon CiTy muSiC FeSTivaL
Lake Tahoe SummerFeST Under the direction of Maestro Joel Revzen, top players from some of the nation’s best symphonies gather at the annual classical music festival, which kicks off on Friday, Aug. 1. The opening concert on Aug. 1, features Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture “Fingal’s Cave,” Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 and Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horns and Strings featuring tenor Matthew Polenzani and Erik Ralske of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra on horns. The festival continues through Aug. 17 with concerts taking place at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The performances take place in an outdoor acoustic tent on the campus of Sierra Nevada College, 999 Tahoe Blvd., Incline Village. Tickets range from $12.50 to $75. Mile High Jazz Band presents its annual music festival featuring local and regional jazz artists playing at various venues in Carson City through Aug. 17. The festival kicks off with the Mad Hatter Garden Party on Friday, Aug. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The party features music by the Corky Bennett Trio, finger foods by Carson City Confections, wine, beer and a raffle. The Governor’s Mansion is at 606 Mountain St., Carson City, and the entrance is from Robinson Street. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Other highlights of the festival include Jazz! & Beyond at the NV150 Fair at Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Road, on Aug. 2, Speakeasy Dance Party at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St., on Saturday, Aug. 9, and a master class and concert featuring trombonist Bill Watrous at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., on Sunday, Aug. 11. GuiTarFiSh muSiC FeSTivaL The list of summer music festivals taking place this weekend continues with the fourth annual camping, arts and music gathering. The festival aims to raise awareness of overfishing and pollution of the ocean and to help preserve the world’s watersheds, rivers and streams. Various rock, R&B and world music acts will perform on two stages over three days Friday through Sunday, Aug. 1-3, at Cisco Grove Campground, 48415 Hampshire Rocks Road, Soda Springs, Calif. The lineup includes Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, Pimps of Joytime, Everyone Orchestra, Mother Hips, SambaDá, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty, Tim Snider Trio, among others. Tickets are $75-$169.
