Chili on the Comstock Bring a bottle of Beano and a hefty appetite to the 33rd annual chili cook-off in Virginia City. More than 30 cooks will serve up tasty bowls, or spoons, of the savory stuff this weekend, May 14-15, for the chance to win prizes and bragging rights to the best chili, among other categories. In addition to chili tastings, revelers can also participate in the Cemetery Gin Fireball Saloon Crawl, featuring a sampling of themed beverages from Virginia City’s historic saloons, on Saturday. Visitors can get a good cardiovascular workout (or get those digestive juices flowing) during the Fun with the Runs 5K on Sunday. The run starts at 10 a.m. with runners and walkers covering the hilly terrain that surrounds the historic boomtown and heading back to the cook-off venue. Participants are encouraged to dress in costume with winners to be selected prior to the race. There will also be a kids’ zone with a bungee trampoline, giant slide and bounce house. The cook-off takes place on C Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission is free, but the food is not. Tasting kits range from $5-$95.
