In the past month, I connected with a number of Web3 founders, entrepreneurs and tech companies in Asia with compelling use cases on how their products have enabled new markets to leapfrog mature markets through the power of the emerging technologies.

As I work to set up a dev hub for Blockchain and Web3 in Africa, many of these companies are keen to test the waters. So we are quickly getting to work! Our fast growing community of tech talent has now reached 200 and they are getting upskilled on Web3 building and Blockchain building, to pioneer this new way of working.

That's why I am excited to be bringing together these stakeholders and the tech talent for a summit, to inspire and make things happen.

I was a student at a university What learnings did you acquire in the incubator and how did you apply it to your current job?

In general, as a person who have completed the Innov8POD incubator, I have gained a deep understanding of the product management concepts and the various stages of the product development lifecycle. I have also learned how to identify customer needs, conduct market research, define product requirements, create a product roadmap, and develop strategies for product launch and marketing.

Additionally, the experience has provided insights into the importance of agile methodologies, user testing, and data analysis in product management.

By leveraging these learnings, I can become a more effective product manager and help drive successful product development outcomes.

EMERGING TALENT What advice will you give to people who want to pursue their career in tech?

If someone is looking to pursue a career in tech, here are some pieces of advice that s/he may follow:

Be adaptable: The tech industry is constantly changing, so it's important to be adaptable and open to new ideas and technologies.

Stay flexible and willing to learn new skills as the industry evolves.

Learn persistently: Technology is constantly evolving, and it's important to keep up with the latest trends, tools, and technologies.

Consider taking online courses, attending industry events, or joining tech-related groups to stay current.

Build skills: Identify the skills that are in demand in the tech industry, such as coding, data analysis, user experience design, and project management. Develop and hone those skills by practicing and working on real projects

Stay Thirsty: A curious mindset can help you approach problems creatively and come up with innovative solutions. Embrace curiosity, ask questions, and seek out new challenges

EMERGING TALENT Leon Ngenzi Software Developer What advice will you give to people who want to pursue their career in tech?

To those who want to pursue their career in Tech, I would tell you to go for it but first, “make a plan”. Most people try to build a career in Tech but the field is extremely large and has a lot of interesting stuff.

Without a plan you will get lost trying to grab everything at once which is not possible because in every field, there is a new update everyday. But if you were lucky to find some career guidance before starting, you would be able to concentrate What were you doing before joining the Innov8POD incubator program?:

Before Innov8POD I was just a coder, meaning, I just wrote code and made sure that everything works as I want them to. I was a passionate software developer who focused on making sure the final product is delivered and looks exactly as the client said. To do that, I had to make sure my programming skills were great and enough and for that I used to put all my effort into coding only.

After getting into innov8pod, I realised that becoming a software developer is not just about writing codes. There are more interpersonal and communication skills necessary to make you a perfect and ready-for-work developer.

Some of those skills which I learnt thanks to Innov8Pod include teamwork, scrum meetings, planning, reporting, testing, and above all communicating (especially if you are a remote worker). During Innov8Pod every corner of product delivery was pointed at and had to be revised to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

These are some of the many important lessons I learn’t from Innov8POD which have and are still helping me to shape my career as a software developer.

Currently, I am a remote freelancer with no permanent contract building and testing software for global companies and to compete with other developers, I am using the mentioned skills plus others like CV writing, interview preps, LinkedIn profile building and many more that I got from innov8POD. To me, Innov8POD was a life changing opportunity.
