LETTER FROM

Lynne Gump, Executive Director

Welcome to the Miami Valley Ohio Chapter’s Humanitarian of the Year Award Ceremony. I am honored to be able to bestow our inaugural award to the Dayton Dragon organization. This team of players and the men and woman who manage the organization are an asset not only to their team, but to our community as well. As an Executive Director with our organization, I see firsthand the impact of the work of our volunteers as they deliver the mission of the American Red Cross. I have never been prouder of our volunteers. The ease and flexibility of how our volunteers have adapted to the service delivery changes and precautions that the Covid pandemic has caused is simply amazing. At no time, did we stop collecting life-saving blood in our community, but in fact, discovered new and diverse blood sponsors that could step in when needed. Our volunteers still responded to every request of the those affected by disaster, like a family fire, perhaps without our signature hug, but still with the warmth and comfort that these volunteers are known for both here in the Miami Valley and across the country. We continued to serve our military and their families, not only providing emergency communications, but volunteers sewed hundreds and hundreds of masks when none were available, helping veterans at the Dayton VA maintain Covid precautions. Preparedness volunteers stepped up to learn the technology, to be able to deliver the Pillowcase Project to third thru fifth graders. It has been an unprecedented time for the American Red Cross. As you hear about the wonderful work that the Dayton Dragons has done in our community, I encourage you to think about how your company or organization can help the Miami Valley a better place to live, work and play. We are honored to partner with many, enabling the American Red Cross to better serve our clients and to reach more people.

LETTER FROM

Michael Smith, Board Chair

It is my privilege to serve as the Board Chair and long-time volunteer of the American Red Cross Miami Valley Ohio Chapter. On behalf of all the members of the Board, our staff, volunteers and our community, I’d like to congratulate the Dayton Dragons on this our Chapter’s inaugural award. Today, we acknowledge the immense contributions of an organization who stepped up to the plate and elevated their game help us better serve our community. In my role as the Chair of the local chapter board and as a lifelong resident of this community, I have witnessed, year after year, the incredible work being done by the Red Cross every day. Responding to home fires, natural disasters both local and across the nation, providing services to our military families, and all while dealing with the challenges of a continuing pandemic. We serve better as a team and we are most fortunate to have such wonderful community partners who are as committed to our ideals and mission as we are. I am so excited for this celebration, the inaugural Humanitarian of the Year Award, presented by Cincinnati Bell. I am impressed by the unwavering commitment of the Dayton Dragons to our community and how they and their organization also managed the uncertainties of a most challenging year! Thank you, for all you have done and continue to do to make our area a great place, to work, live and play.
