Porsche Centre Bahrain in Sitra set the stage for a stylish evening as Woman This Month officially unveiled Porsche as the Title Sponsor for the Woman of the Year Awards 2025.

The stylish venue welcomed a curated guest list of dignitaries, media and community figures to mark the beginning of what promises to be the most dynamic edition of the awards to date.

The event highlighted the synergy between two iconic brands – Porsche and Woman This Month – both known for championing excellence and forward-thinking values. George Middleton, Chairman and Publisher of Woman This Month, welcomed guests and reaffirmed the platform’s commitment to spotlighting women’s leadership across business, arts, health, sports, innovation and social impact.

The General Manager of Porsche Bahrain, Tim Price, delivered remarks underscoring the automotive giant’s commitment to empowerment and innovation: “At Porsche, we are committed to driving change and supporting initiatives that celebrate achievement. We are proud to stand beside Woman This Month in spotlighting the remarkable women shaping Bahrain’s future.”

This year’s awards, now in their second edition, will feature 17 honours across six core categories, including the returning Orange Economy award, which is supported by UNIDO and focuses on Bahrain’s burgeoning creative industries.

In a beautiful intersection of design and meaning, artist Marylou Herbert presented a bespoke artwork created specifically for the event – a mixedmedia painting on mirror inspired by the new Porsche Taycan’s ‘Speed of Light’ colour branding and the Woman This Month magazine’s cover palette.

Explaining her concept, Ms. Herbert said: “I wanted to create something that reflected the values of both Porsche and Woman This Month. The mirror surface symbolises the reflective body of the car, while the fusion of purple, fuchsia, black and white represents a powerful yet feminine identity.” The piece, both arresting and symbolic, brought a unique sense of depth to the evening’s aesthetics.

Ms. Herbert, who has previously exhibited similar mirror artworks at venues across the Kingdom, developed the technique herself and described the process as both meticulous and expressive. “Each mirror has to be carefully prepared. I use acrylics to build up a layered effect that allows the light to bounce and shift – just like on a car’s chassis,” she explained.

The evening’s cultural programme added a layer of emotive brilliance.

Lebanese singer Zeina Fares captivated the audience with her rich vocals. With a career spanning nearly three decades, Ms. Fares is known for weaving heartfelt emotion and cultural depth into her performances. Her appearance added a soulful note to the already elegant evening.

Also earning enthusiastic applause was a stirring cello and dance performance by Creative Beats, led by Anna Nazimova. The ensemble, known for fusing classical music with contemporary choreography, brought a graceful intensity that lingered long after the final note.

Woman This Month extends its heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, partners and supporters in attendance, whose presence marked the shared commitment to recognising the women shaping Bahrain’s future.

The event was seamlessly anchored by host Marianne Semane, whose confident presence and engaging style guided the evening with poise. As the face of the announcement, Ms. Semane brought warmth, wit and energy, reflecting the spirit of the awards and their celebration of female leadership.

With nominations for the awards now open, the countdown to the December 2025 ceremony has begun – ushering in a new chapter of inspiration, recognition and celebration.

WOTYA Title Sponsor Announcement

A distinguished gathering was held at Porsche Centre Bahrain in Sitra to officially announce Porsche as the esteemed Title Sponsor of the highly anticipated Woman of the Year Awards 2025. The event brought together prominent guests from Bahrain’s business and entrepreneurship community, along with inspiring and empowered women who are driving change and innovation across the Kingdom.

Electric Driving Experience

Porsche Centre Bahrain hosted an exclusive coastal drive event, offering guests the chance to experience the all-electric Macan and Taycan models in a luxurious and dynamic setting.

The cruise featured the conic German brand’s latest all-electric models – the Macan BEV and the Taycan. The event offered guests a chance to experience the power and refinement of Porsche’s electric innovation against the scenic backdrop of Bahrain’s coastline.

Signature Porsche Hospitality

The event began at Porsche Centre Bahrain, where guests were welcomed with signature hospitality. After a short introduction to the vehicles, participants set off in convoy towards the Jumeirah Gulf of Bahrain resort, enjoying a drive designed to showcase the performance, handling and luxury that define Porsche.

Performance Meets Sustainability

The coastal route allowed drivers to fully appreciate the dynamic capabilities of the electric Macan and Taycan, both of which exemplify the brand’s fusion of sportiness and

sustainability. “This weekend was not just about driving; it was about creating unforgettable memories with our clients,” said Tim Price, General Manager at Porsche Centre Bahrain. “The Macan and Taycan represent the future of Porsche, and we are excited to share that experience with our valued customers.”

Gourmet Stop at Jumeirah Gulf

Upon arrival at the Jumeirah Gulf of Bahrain, guests were treated to a curated dining experience, creating an ideal setting for lively conversations around the electric drive and Porsche’s progressive design. The sense of camaraderie and excitement was palpable, reinforcing Porsche’s position not only as a leader in automotive excellence but also as a brand that creates meaningful client connections.

Dual-Model Experience

A highlight of the day was a vehicle swap on the return journey, allowing each guest to experience both electric models in action. This thoughtful detail gave attendees a deeper appreciation of the unique character of each vehicle – from the sporty agility of the Taycan to the versatility and elegance of the all-new electric Macan.

Driving Toward the Future

The event underlined Porsche’s commitment to electric mobility and its ability to deliver premium, sustainable experiences without compromising on performance. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees showed a growing enthusiasm for Porsche’s electric range and a strong appetite for more such exclusive experiences.

Porsche Centre Bahrain is set to continue its drive toward the future, with more customercentric events on the horizon.

More Than Just Beauty

In today’s world, aesthetics is about more than how we look – it’s how we feel, live and express ourselves. In this issue, Woman This Month explores what beauty and wellness mean to women across Bahrain.

From age-old skincare routines to modern beauty treatments in the Kingdom’s top salons, Bahraini women are blending tradition with new trends. Aesthetics runs the spectrum from makeup to fashion, but also includes confidence, health and embracing your natural self.

We’re also seeing a shift toward clean beauty, balanced lifestyles and open conversations around mental wellbeing. More women are focusing on feeling good from the inside out, and it shows in how they carry themselves every day.

This edition celebrates the many sides of beauty – simple, bold, natural and everything in between. It’s not about fitting into one mould, but finding what makes you feel beautiful.

Empowering Confidence

With over two decades in plastic surgery, Dr. Nadia Matar has become a leading figure in Bahrain’s aesthetic medicine scene through her patient-centric approach and ethical standards.

Dr. Nadia’s successful career in plastic surgery began with a defining exposure during her medical training at Salmaniya Medical Complex in the 1990s. Inspired by pioneers of the field and motivated by the profound impact plastic surgery could have on a patient’s quality of life, she committed herself to a lifelong career in both reconstructive and aesthetic procedures.

Transforming a Field

Over the years, Dr. Nadia has witnessed the transformation of plastic surgery from primarily reconstructive work to an expansive spectrum of aesthetic treatments. She says: “Technological advancements, increased patient awareness and the growing demand for non-invasive procedures have significantly reshaped the field.”

The

Birth of Dr. Nadia Clinics

A Holistic Approach to Beauty

After 22 years in public health and private sector roles, Dr. Nadia founded Dr. Nadia Clinics with the aim of delivering high-quality plastic surgery with integrity. She explains: “I wanted to create a space that not only offered excellence in treatment but also prioritised patient wellbeing and confidence. The clinic’s prestigious location was chosen to provide a satisfying and complete experience for every patient.”

At the heart of Dr. Nadia’s philosophy lies a holistic approach. She views plastic surgery not just as a physical transformation but as a tool to support self-worth and emotional wellbeing. With social media fuelling unrealistic beauty standards, she places great emphasis on patient education: “I always conduct detailed consultations to understand motivations, expectations and any underlying medical issues. Many of the images seen online are digitally enhanced and don’t reflect reality.”

If needed, Dr. Nadia refers patients to mental health professionals before proceeding with any cosmetic treatment. “I avoid performing procedures that may harm patients. Safety and promoting a healthy perception of beauty always come first.”

Areas of Expertise

Her passion lies in addressing functional issues through procedures such as breast reduction and abdominal surgery, often in cases involving comorbidities or hernias. She also specialises in post-operative scar treatment using advanced laser techniques.

Commitment to Advancement

Continuous learning plays a key role in maintaining high standards at her clinic. Dr. Nadia actively attends international conferences, webinars and hands-on workshops. She also keeps up with the latest developments in medical journals to ensure her techniques remain at the cutting edge of the field.

Advice to First-Time Patients

Her message to those considering plastic surgery is simple yet crucial: “Always choose a board-certified surgeon with reputable credentials who adheres to the highest ethical and safety standards.”

Therapy Pioneer

Discover the Power of VitaNAD+: Dr. Ammar Alalawi’s Perspective on Advanced NAD+ Therapy at ALKEM Health & Wellness.

In my practice, I’m always seeking out therapies that support longterm vitality and cellular health. One of the most impactful options available today is VitaNAD+, an advanced NAD+ IV therapy offered at ALKEM. This therapy has transformed the health journeys of many individuals dealing with low energy, brain fog and burnout.

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is an essential coenzyme that plays a crucial role in energy production, DNA repair and the regulation of inflammation. As we age – and especially under stress or chronic illness – our NAD+ levels naturally decline, leading to fatigue and cognitive difficulties. VitaNAD+ was developed to address this, combining NAD+ with carefully selected nutrients to enhance its absorption and cellular impact.

At ALKEM, we use VitaNAD+ to support individuals looking to regain their energy, focus and resilience. Many notice significant improvements after just a few sessions. It’s a popular option not only for those recovering from fatigue but also for high performers and athletes who want to maintain optimal function.

What I appreciate most about this therapy is its regenerative approach. Rather than masking symptoms, VitaNAD+ works at the cellular level to restore balance and function – making it a cornerstone of sustainable wellness. And because no two people are alike, I always take a personalised approach, factoring in each person’s health history, lifestyle and goals to develop a plan that truly supports long-term vitality.

If you’re feeling depleted or want to take proactive steps toward optimal health, I encourage you to explore VitaNAD+ at ALKEM. It’s a safe, non-invasive therapy designed to restore from within –helping you feel your best, naturally.

Healthy Smiles for Our Heroes: Dental Care for Fathers

Father’s Day is a time to celebrate the strength, guidance and quiet sacrifices of the men who’ve shaped our lives. As fathers age, so do their oral health needs – often silently and unnoticed.

Common dental problems in older men include gum disease, tooth wear, dry mouth and increased risk of tooth loss. Years of wear and tear, combined with lifestyle factors like tobacco use, stress or systemic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, can accelerate dental issues. Medications taken for chronic conditions may also reduce saliva flow, increasing the risk of cavities and infections.

Neglecting oral health can impact not only their smile but also their overall health.

Studies show strong links between periodontal disease and heart conditions, diabetes and respiratory problems – making routine dental care all the more crucial.

At SPE Dental Centre, we believe that caring for one’s oral health is a form of self-respect and love – for oneself and the family. This Father’s Day, let’s encourage our dads to prioritise their dental wellness.

Dr. Rashmi

To support this, SPE Dental Centre is offering special dental check-up packages throughout June – thoughtfully designed to address agerelated dental concerns and promote lasting oral health.

Let’s give back to the ones who’ve always had our backs – with the gift of a healthy smile.

Hospitality with Heart

Areen Hospitality’s Nahed Guiga tells Woman This Month about elevating guest experiences, embracing local culture and driving Bahrain’s hospitality future.

As Director of Sales, Ms. Guiga brings a sharp focus on design-led luxury and culturally immersive experiences to Bahrain’s competitive hospitality sector.

“Our vision is to position the group as a benchmark for design-led, culturally attuned luxury hospitality,” she says. “We aspire to be known not just for exceptional service and refined elegance, but as hotels that offer truly unique, world-class facilities.”

With a portfolio that spans boutique business hotels like Charthouse and Pearlhouse in Bahrain Harbour, and the popular Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park, Areen Hospitality balances diverse offerings under a unified strategy. “Each property has its own identity,” she explains. “We take a tailored approach to sales while remaining aligned with our overarching goal, which is to lead the market in every segment we operate in.”

Business travellers are drawn to Charthouse and Pearlhouse’s strategic location and refined ambience, while Lost Paradise continues to attract local families, school groups and GCC tourists. “LPOD is a true destination, engaging guests of all ages,” says Ms. Guiga. “We regularly refresh the entertainment calendar and introduce seasonal events to maintain footfall throughout the year.”

She also notes a clear shift in traveller expectations: “Guests now want tailored experiences, digital convenience and flexibility.” This change has prompted the group to enhance its online presence, roll out curated packages and target both leisure and corporate markets with personalised offers.

Digital transformation has also become central to operations. “From seamless bookings to data-driven campaigns, technology enables us to better understand and serve our guests,” she says.

Equally important to the group’s philosophy is a strong connection with the local community. “We build ties with culturally relevant experiences, collaborate with local businesses, and tailor our promotions to national events and resident needs,” says Ms. Guiga. “We also thank Bahrain Tourism for their continued support in helping us grow our presence.”

On attracting regional visitors, she highlights that GCC tourists value comfort and location: “We cater to them with spacious suites, central addresses and top-tier amenities that suit both business and leisure stays.”

As a woman in leadership, Ms. Guiga reflects positively on the industry’s evolution: “It’s empowering to see more women shaping the future of hospitality. Diversity is valued more than ever at Areen Hospitality, and we actively support female professional growth.”

Looking ahead, guests can expect new offerings and enhanced service. “We’re dedicated to continuous improvement and innovation,” she says. “Stay tuned for exciting developments as we redefine hospitality in Bahrain.

“We thank our guests, partners and community for their support. Our passion is to lead with integrity, excellence and vision.”

Where Paradise Met a Castaway’s Tale Dream: Maldivian My

Woman This Month’s Brand Ambassador & Associate Editor, Esky Dubois, recently visited the gorgeous Maldives as a guest of the Raaya by Atmosphere resort.

We’ve all heard the whispers of the Maldives – ‘Heaven on Earth,’ they call it. For me, the true magic of a destination often begins long before arrival, setting the tone from the moment I step off the plane. In the Maldives, that feeling of paradise wasn’t just met; it was wildly exceeded.

My journey began with a seamless immigration process, made even easier by pre-filling my declaration form the day before leaving Bahrain. Emerging into the warm Maldivian air, I was greeted by a friendly representative who whisked me away for a quick drive to the seaplane check-in. The dedicated lounge, complete with refreshments, offered a tranquil prelude to the adventure ahead. Though offered a chance to refresh, I chose instead to soak in the vibrant atmosphere, filming the seaplanes dotting the water – a true spectacle in itself.

If you think the idea of the Maldives being a paradise is an exaggeration, you’ll understand the injustice done to this island nation the moment your eyes land on its breath-taking scenery and your feet touch its soft sands. Boarding the seaplane, you will have you constantly checking your phone storage, filming nonstop. After a mesmerising 45-minute flight, a truly VIP welcome awaited at Raaya by Atmosphere resort. The staff and management, lined up with traditional musicians beating their celebratory drums, made me feel like royalty

A Dreamlike Stay at Raaya by Atmosphere

During my three-night stay at Raaya by Atmosphere, my villa was nothing short of dreamlike. Boasting a private pool and direct access to the beach, it offered the perfect blend of luxury and tranquillity. Each morning, I awoke with a sense of excitement, eager for the day’s discoveries. Breakfast at RAAYA Life – All Day Dining was an absolute feast. The buffet spread, an exquisite fusion of Asian, European, Indian and Maldivian cuisines, along with live cooking stations, dim sum, and an array of salads, fruits and desserts, was truly divine.

I had eagerly anticipated a serene start to my day with a floating breakfast in the privacy of my villa’s pool. Unfortunately, unpredictable rain meant not only we had to scratch our planned floating breakfast but also our pre booked ‘House Reef Snorkelling’ adventure, where I hoped to discover the vibrant corals and playful fish of their underwater paradise. While disappointed, the resort’s charm more than made up for it.

Stepping into Sebastian’s World

One of the undeniable highlights of my stay was delving into the fascinating story of Sebastian, the castaway explorer. He’s not someone you’ll meet in person, but his immersive backstory permeates every aspect of Raaya by Atmosphere, creating a truly unique guest experience. Sebastian is depicted as an artist and amateur sailor who was shipwrecked on the very island where the resort now stands, living alone for eight years before being discovered.

The entire resort is a tribute to Sebastian’s time as a castaway. Every design element, structure and landmark is inspired by what he supposedly crafted from natural materials and flotsam. His connection to nature is woven into the resort’s ethos, particularly at the ELE|NA spa, where healing massages and treatments are inspired by the island’s natural elements. I was delighted to find my massage bed adorned with leaves wishing me a ‘Happy Birthday’ before enjoying an hour of pure relaxation with an incredible therapist.

The Seb’s Rustic Home area is a hub of Maldivian arts and crafts, featuring local artists and designed to resemble Sebastian’s makeshift huts. Here, guests can participate in guided activities, including a traditional dhoni building workshop. I even ended up crafting a dhoni and later joined other GCC media members in a friendly competition!

But Seb’s Farm was my personal favourite. This sustainable farm-to-table restaurant exemplifies the resort’s commitment to eco-conscious practices. Every dish and drink (served in coconut glasses) features organic ingredients sourced directly from the farm and local fisheries.

As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to personally select vegetables for my dinner – a truly fresh and personalised experience. My vegetarianism didn’t stop me from indulging at The Village, the resort’s Italian restaurant. Its menu, featuring exquisite pastas, gnocchi and risottos, all perfectly paired with fine grape beverages, was a delightful culinary journey.

Though I departed Raaya by Atmosphere on the eighth morning via Velana International Airport, my mind often

Watch the Video drifts back to the magical night of May 7, my birthday celebration. Thanks to our incredible host, Ms. Shiru, who paid attention to every small detail, I truly felt like I was in paradise. And as I look at the dhoni I crafted, I’m mentally transported back to that Maldivian dream.

Polished to Perfection

True beauty lies in the details, according to experts at AMOR

SUI Beauty Lounge. Well-groomed hands and feet reflect selfcare, hygiene and style, creating a lasting impression and enhancing your overall image from the ground up.

Beauty is not limited to flawless skin or expertly applied makeup – it starts with self-care. Among the most telling signs of personal grooming are the hands and feet. Often overlooked, they quietly convey how much attention one gives to themselves and the impression they leave on others.

Hands, constantly in motion and exposed to view, play a subtle yet powerful role in a person’s appearance. A simple handshake or a passing gesture reveals more than we realise. Clean, moisturised hands with a well-kept manicure add elegance and charm to any look. Whether you opt for a timeless nude, a bold colour or intricate nail art, healthy and tidy nails speak volumes about self-respect and personal style.

Feet deserve equal care. Supporting the weight of the body every day, they endure pressure and strain, yet are frequently neglected. Cracked heels, dryness or calluses not only affect comfort but also detract from confidence – especially in open footwear. A routine of moisturising, exfoliation and professional pedicures can restore softness, maintain hygiene and enhance appearance.

Beauty salons offer a comprehensive menu of treatments designed to revitalise and maintain hand and foot health. From classic manicures and pedicures to luxurious spa rituals involving masks, scrubs and massages, these services go beyond the cosmetic. They promote circulation, soothe tension and help prevent common issues like ingrown nails or fungal infections. For those with specific concerns, therapeutic options are also available to address problem areas under professional care.

Investing in the care of your hands and feet is not mere vanity – it is a sign of wellness, discipline and appreciation for your body. It reflects how you carry yourself and how you interact with the world.

Ultimately, beauty begins with the basics. A polished hand or a soft heel does more than please the eye – it shows you care. And in a world where first impressions matter, it is often the smallest details that leave the strongest mark.

Toxic Teachings: Andrew Tate, the Manosphere and the Boys We’re Raising

Rachel Radford is an expat teacher in Bahrain. Her column in Woman This Month dives into pivotal issues impacting women, reflecting her unique perspective and experiences.

It’s an inescapable truth that we are living in a terminally online world. For most of us, doom scrolling and meme sharing are as much a part of our daily rituals as brushing our teeth in the morning and eating dinner at night. While the benefits of this constant connectedness can be many and varied, there is also a darker more insidious side which we would be remiss to ignore.

Understanding the ‘manosphere’

It seems these days more than ever, being online can feel like walking through a minefield of extreme opinions and half-truths. The internet is filled with voices wanting to be heard, and usually those who shout the loudest or have the most controversial things to say are often the ones that get heard. Of these voices, few have garnered as much controversy or warrant as much concern as that of Andrew Tate. If you are

one of the lucky ones who has not heard of Tate, please forgive me for being the one to burst that bubble. A self-proclaimed ‘alpha male’ and internet personality, he has become the face of a growing online movement known as the manosphere. And if you’ve never heard of that term before (again, lucky you), buckle up because it’s time we talk about it!

The manosphere is a loosely connected network of influencers, bloggers, YouTubers, and self-help ‘gurus’ who claim to teach men how to reclaim their masculinity which they have been robbed of in a world tainted by feminism and political correctness. On the surface, the advice may seem harmless: lift weights, be confident, make money; but when you scratch beneath that surface just a little, what you find is a worldview dripping in misogyny, entitlement and emotional repression.

The rise of troubling youth

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably at least heard of Netflix’s Adolescence, a chilling drama that explores exactly what can happen when these toxic ideologies take root. The four-part series follows Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy who becomes consumed by rage after being rejected by his female classmate, Katie Leonard. Spoiler alert: he murders her! While it’s not an easy watch, in my opinion it is a necessary one. It is a portrayal of how some boys (and men) internalise rejection, not as a normal part of life, but as a personal assault on their worth, their masculinity and their inherent right to be desired.

Watching Adolescence is like watching the manosphere brought to life. Jamie’s emotional fragility, his sense of entitlement and his inability to deal with rejection mirror the exact patterns we’re seeing online with Tate’s followers. And let’s be clear, this isn’t just about one troubled boy in a fictional story. It’s about a very real generation of boys being taught that dominance equals strength, that emotions are weakness, and that women owe them something simply for existing.

The consequences for women

Andrew Tate’s popularity isn’t an accident. He portrays himself as confident, he’s loud and opinionated and appears to have all the trappings of wealth. These are qualities that appeal to young men who feel inadequate in today’s ‘woke’ world. When traditional ideas of masculinity feel under threat, figures like Tate swoop in offering identity, power and purpose. But of course all this comes at a price. One that, unsurprisingly, women must foot the bill for.

As women, many of us are on the front lines of this cultural shift. We’re the mothers hearing our sons mimic toxic talking points. We’re the friends and sisters and daughters trying to explain that being respected isn’t a radical feminist demand, it’s a basic human right.

Lola’s

Night at

Salero

Salero Restaurant at Westin City Centre Bahrain hosted its ‘Lola’s Night’.

So what can we do?

We must start having important and uncomfortable conversations. Ask the young men in your life what they’re watching, what they think and how they feel. Boys, and men of all ages really, need to become more comfortable expressing the emotions they have been taught for too long to suppress.

We also need more emotionally intelligent male role models. Boys need to see that masculinity isn’t about control or conquest, it’s about emotional strength and kindness, confidence without arrogance and vulnerability without shame.

We can’t magically delete the manosphere. But we can dilute its influence by offering something more powerful: connection, compassion and a new vision of what it means to be a man in today’s world.

From Within Shine

Consultant, Lifestyle Nutritionist and Meal Planner, Dr. Tejender Kaur Sarna, more popularly known as Dr. Tejji, posits on the role of food in fashion and beauty.

The fashion world demands more than just good looks, it requires resilience too. Long shoots, quick changes, jet lag and high-pressure moments all require real stamina and lasersharp focus. Once defined by crash diets and unrealistic body standards, the industry is undergoing a transformation. Today, models, designers and influencers are shifting the narrative – embracing wellness over weight loss, strength over size, and radiance over restriction.

But here’s a question: How do models still look fresh and radiant after hours under hot lights, long-haul flights or back-to-back runway shows? The secret isn’t just in skincare or makeup – it starts with what’s on their plate. In the world of fashion, food plays a quiet but powerful role. And its impact? Written all over the skin, the energy and the confidence that walks every runway.

The fashion world is all about visuals – but real, lasting beauty starts from the inside. True beauty shines from within. And food, when chosen wisely, becomes the most natural beauty product we can use. When models eat well –with foods rich in antioxidants, vitamins, healthy fats and water – their skin glows, eyes sparkle, and hair shines.

The saying ‘You are what you eat’ could not be more accurate in the world of fashion and beauty. So, if you are also an aspiring model and want that natural skin beauty within, keep on reading.

Think berries for vitamin C, leafy greens for iron and folate, nuts for healthy fats and lots of water – these aren’t just diet trends. They’re skinfoods, mood-foods and energy boosters. Dry skin, acne, dullness, or puffiness – many of these are not just skincare issues, but dietary red flags. Omega-3 rich foods like flaxseeds and walnuts reduce inflammation. Hydrating fruits like cucumber and watermelon fight puffiness. Zinc from seeds like sunflower, sesame and melon helps control acne. A clean, hydrated canvas means makeup lasts longer, looks smoother and requires less product.

Carbs provide energy, but complex carbs like oats and quinoa keep you full and focused. Prioritise high-volume, low-calorie foods. Enjoy leafy greens, cucumbers, courgette, berries, citrus and cauliflower rice. It keeps you full without puffiness before shoots or events.

Proteins support strength, lean muscle, and lasting fullness – essential for a model’s stamina and tone. Great sources include eggs, Greek yoghurt, tofu, tempeh, chicken, lentils and fish. Easy go-to snacks include hard-boiled eggs, edamame or a protein smoothie.

Magnesium-rich foods like bananas help calm nerves and reduce stress. When the body is well-nourished, the mind stays sharp – and it shows in posture, poise and confidence on the runway. For glowing skin, focus on nutrient-rich foods like berries, carrots, spinach, avocados, walnuts, chia seeds, flaxseeds and salmon. These are nature’s way of giving you a built-in photo filter – from the inside out.

So, the next time you admire someone’s glow on a magazine cover or a fashion ramp, remember – it’s not just the highlighter or foundation. It’s the hydration, the greens, the proteins and the fruits.

Understanding

A Simple Guide

What is Dyslexia?

Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst, Dr. Fifi Kiwan, discusses dyslexia, a learning difference that affects how people read, write and spell. It’s not a reflection of intelligence; rather, it’s about how the brain processes language.

Think of it like having a different operating system that can make reading a bit tricky. Imagine trying to read a book, but the letters seem to jump around or don’t make sense. This is a common experience for someone with dyslexia. They might struggle to decode words, which can lead to frustration and a lack of confidence in their abilities. It’s estimated that about one in 10 people have some form of dyslexia, making it more common than you might think.

The Impact of Dyslexia

Dyslexia can significantly impact both academic and professional success. In school, students may fall behind in reading and writing, leading to lower grades and reduced participation in class. This can affect their self-esteem and motivation. As they move into the workforce, individuals with dyslexia may face challenges in jobs that require strong reading and writing skills.

However, it’s essential to remember that many successful people have dyslexia, including renowned entrepreneurs, artists and scientists. Their achievements highlight that, with the right support and strategies, individuals with dyslexia can thrive.

The Role of Cognitive Skills

Improving cognitive skills is crucial for managing dyslexia symptoms. Cognitive skills include memory, attention and processing speed –essential tools for learning and communication. Here are some effective strategies to enhance these skills:

1. Reading Aloud: This practice helps improve pronunciation and comprehension. It can also boost confidence as individuals hear the words they are reading.

2. Multisensory Learning: Engaging multiple senses can reinforce learning. For example, using coloured letters, writing in sand or using apps that combine visual and auditory instructions can make a difference.

3. Practice and Patience: Regular practice can significantly improve reading skills. This includes breaking down words into smaller parts and gradually increasing complexity.

4. Structured Literacy Programmes: Programmes that focus on phonics, spelling and reading comprehension can be particularly beneficial. These programs are designed to cater to different learning styles.

5. Mindfulness and Focus Techniques: Practices like meditation or focused breathing can help improve attention and reduce anxiety, making learning more effective.

Moving Forward

For those with dyslexia, understanding their unique learning style is the first step toward success. By focusing on cognitive skills improvement, individuals can enhance their abilities, leading to better academic performance and professional opportunities. Support from teachers, employers and family can make a significant difference, providing encouragement and resources to help navigate challenges.

Dyslexia may present obstacles, but with the right strategies and support, it doesn’t have to define one’s potential. By working on cognitive skills and embracing different learning methods, individuals with dyslexia can unlock their capabilities and achieve their goals in both education and career. Remember, dyslexia is not a limitation; it’s just a different way of learning.

That same year brought another remarkable milestone when Ms. Fares was invited to perform alongside the renowned Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra in Bosnia. She chose the song Kalimat, famously performed by Majida Roumi.

“Performing with the orchestra was an unforgettable experience,” Ms. Fares says. “Stepping onto that stage in Sarajevo, I felt a profound connection with the audience, who welcomed me with open hearts. It was magical; the music just flowed through me.”

Music Beyond Borders

This powerful performance solidified her belief in music’s universal appeal. Fluent in Arabic, English and French, Ms. Fares emphasises how her multilingual skills enhance her performances: “Each language offers unique emotions and expressions. Singing in multiple languages lets me bridge cultural gaps and truly reach the hearts of diverse audiences.

“Arabic music connects me to my roots. French music has elegance and depth, while English music allows for expressive versatility. I treasure performing each style.”

Continuing the Journey

Reflecting on her journey, Ms. Fares remains deeply committed: “Music isn’t just what I do; it’s who I am. Sharing my voice is my way of celebrating life’s moments, whether they’re joyous, bittersweet or hopeful. I have such a love for performance and am committed to sharing my music with the world.”

The Empty Swing Set:

NAVIGATING THE HEARTBREAK OF CHILDHOOD FRIENDSHIPS MOVING ON

Ouiam El Hassani muses on how parents can help their children cope when a close friendship ends, offering comfort and guidance through the heartbreak of young connections changing or fading.

That familiar hush has fallen over your home –the kind that settles when a vibrant presence is suddenly gone. Your child, usually a whirlwind of imaginative play, sits quietly, a shadow of their usual self. Perhaps their best friend – the one they built Lego kingdoms with or shared whispered secrets during sleepovers – has moved away or changed schools.

As parents, our hearts ache alongside theirs. Childhood friendships are more than just shared snacks and playdates; they are the foundation of emotional growth. These early bonds help children learn empathy, compromise and the delicate dance of human connection. When one of these friendships ends, it can feel like a seismic shift in your child’s world.

For younger children, the permanence of absence is hard to grasp. ‘Far away’ is an abstract concept, and they may repeatedly ask when their friend will return. This confusion may show up as clinginess, tears or even regression to earlier behaviours. Older children and teenagers may have a deeper understanding of loss, but the emotional toll can be just as heavy.

Friendships at that age often involve vulnerability and trust. When a confidante disappears, it can trigger loneliness and affect self-esteem. They might retreat emotionally or become irritable. Digital connections may remain, but these can sometimes serve as bittersweet reminders of what has been lost.

Our instinct as parents is to soothe. The first step is to acknowledge and validate their feelings. Avoid quick reassurances. Instead, say: “It sounds like you’re really missing your friend. It’s completely understandable to feel sad.” Be a patient listener. Encourage them to talk about their friend, share memories, and explore their emotions. If staying in touch is an option, support them through video calls, letters or even a visit. Help them cherish the friendship and encourage them to invest in current relationships and seek new ones through shared activities.

Healing takes time. Be consistent in your support and remind them that a wide range of emotions is normal. Conversations about change can also prepare children for the possibility of friends moving in the future.

When a move is imminent, help them focus on the positives of their friend’s journey while acknowledging the sadness. Role-playing goodbyes or creating keepsakes can offer closure.

That empty swing set or quiet desk may be a stark reminder of absence, but through listening, empathy and gentle guidance, we help our children build resilience. In time, the sadness fades and new friendships bloom – rooted in the lessons and love from those that came before.

Your Monthly Guide to Salon and Spa Success ?

When Your Best Team Member Becomes the Biggest Problem

Let’s talk about something that a lot of salon owners are going through – but no one wants to say out loud.

You’ve got a team member who brings in great money. Clients love them. They’re skilled, experienced and on paper, they seem like dream employees. But behind the scenes? It’s a whole different story.

Their attitude is negative and disruptive. They complain, talk down about others, create tension and act like your salon can’t survive without them. And maybe you’ve let it slide – because they bring in cash. But here’s the truth: no one person should be allowed to wreck your salon’s vibe, no matter how much money they’re making.

Every month, we invite readers to pose their own questions for Badia to answer in her next column. Make sure to ask your own by emailing ask@womanthismonth.com

One person can’t be bigger than your business.

Real talk. No sugarcoating. Being a leader means making tough calls, even when it’s uncomfortable. And this is one of those times.

Sit down with them, face to face. Be calm, but firm. Let them know how their behaviour is affecting your salon, your team and your overall vision. Understand why they’ve got to this point but make it clear: this attitude must stop – and it must stop now.

After the talk, send them back home for a few days off to reflect. Let them decide whether they come back ready to change, or they walk away.

Keep the meeting short and to the point. This is where you show them, you’re serious about running the business without them if needed – and that’s a game change. Focus on business, not personal emotions. No matter what the history, your message needs to be about professionalism and respect.

If they stay, check in regularly. Watch how they act. This shows your salon is under strong leadership, and no one is above the rules. The rest of your team will get the message loud and clear: respect and professionalism are non-negotiable.

The Consequences of Not Acting

If you don’t address the problem now, the consequences will catch up with you – and they won’t be pretty.

First, your business will suffer. A toxic environment leads to lower morale, your clients will notice if the atmosphere is off, In turn, they may choose to go elsewhere and your revenue starts to drop.

Second, your team will feel the strain. When one person’s bad behaviour goes unchecked, it creates tension and division among the rest. Good team members will start to feel disrespected, frustrated or even demotivated. Eventually, your best staff may leave because they can’t work in that environment, and suddenly you’re dealing with more turnover and recruiting issues.

The longer you let it slide, the more damage it does. A toxic person can poison a whole team if left unchecked, and before you know it, the culture you’ve worked so hard to build starts to fall apart.

Yes, it’s tough, but that’s what leadership is. You didn’t build your business to be controlled by one person. You built it with vision, passion, and purpose. Protect that. Because in the end, a united, peaceful team will always bring more success than one difficult ‘top performer’ ever could.

You might – short term. But that’s part of business. Every serious business owner must accept that sometimes you lose money to protect the bigger picture. It’s a wake-up call, not a failure. Letting toxic energy stay will cost you more: good staff will leave, clients will feel it, and your salon culture will collapse. Cutting the poison early is Business 101.

No – they’ll feel safer. When your team sees you stepping up, holding everyone to the same standard, they feel protected and respected. Strong leadership builds trust. Silence and avoidance only create fear and confusion.

What if I lose money by letting go of a top performer?
Won’t my team feel scared if I take strong action?

IN HER SHOES

This month, we take a walk in the shoes of Rasha Alagha, Sales Manager at Nazih Trading, who gives us a behind-the-scenes look at her fast-paced role, beauty favourites and the surprising skills that fuel her success.

What’s the first thing you do when you get to work – and what can’t you start your day without?

I check my emails to see what’s urgent and what can wait. It helps me prioritise. And I absolutely need coffee – that first sip gets me in the zone.

What’s one product from Nazih Trading that you absolutely swear by?

Revlon Professional hair colour. It gives rich, long-lasting colour without damaging my hair. I’m also obsessed with the Eksperience range – it’s like a spa day at home, deeply nourishing and smells amazing.

Sales can be unpredictable. How do you keep your energy up?

Organisation is key. I try to handle tough tasks first and stick to a clear plan. When it gets overwhelming, I step away briefly to reset. Small wins throughout the day really help.

What’s a surprising skill you’ve picked up on the job?

Event planning! Between launches, client meetings and workshops, I’ve learnt to coordinate all the details. I enjoy it so much, I could see myself shifting to it one day.

Tell us about a time you had to think on your feet to close a deal.

I once had a very detail-oriented client who asked a lot of questions. It pushed me to use all my product knowledge and emotional intelligence to build trust and keep the conversation flowing. It reminded me that the best sales happen when you connect emotionally with the client.

If you had to describe your work style in three words?

Teamwork, inspiring and consistent. I lead with people, lift others up and always show up.

How do you unwind after a long day – spa day or Netflix binge?

Netflix binge, definitely. Couch, snacks and a good show – it’s my way to switch off and reset.

What’s one piece of career advice you wish you’d learnt earlier?

Observe, listen, learn … then act. I used to jump in too quickly to prove myself, but taking a step back and understanding the full picture first makes you more effective.

You work in beauty – but what makes you feel most confident beyond style?

Confidence for me is feeling prepared and in control. Whether I’m closing a deal, leading my team or solving a problem, that sense of purpose is what makes me feel truly confident.

If we stepped into your shoes for a day, what would surprise us most?

People assume sales is all about talking, but there’s a lot of planning, problem-solving and emotional awareness involved. It’s a mix of hustle and strategy – and no two days are ever alike.
