A true multi-tasker, this man has one vision – to attain colossal success for the six different brands he currently heads. Read on to find out more as Daniel Edwiges reveals all in a candid chat with BTM.

roup general manager at International Hotels Bahrain, Daniel Edwiges takes on several roles through the course of a day. Besides managing Bushido Restaurant and Lounge, the German national also oversees the operations of Trader Vic’s, Haute Cupcakes, Delice chocolaterie, and soon to open Asia De Cuba and Café Des Arts. Having been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, Daniel is a seasoned mogul in his profession. “I’ve been in the field since the age of 16 when I first did my apprenticeship in Germany. I opted to specialise in the food and beverage department. After three years of that, I joined a cruise liner and sailed across the world, opening my eyes to new countries and cultures,” says Daniel. He worked in Singapore, Turkey and Germany before moving to Bahrain. Despite the responsibilities he juggles, his 46 November 2016

love for the hospitality industry grows fonder each year. “I truly enjoy communicating with people from different walks of life and exploring new cities and customs. I am fortunate to be in such a social profession,” he explains. When asked what his biggest challenge is when handling multiple brands simultaneously, he says: “Adapting to the different concepts of the outlets, and switching my outlook from one hour to the next is where the challenge lies. It also makes things interesting.” He then outlines what’s in store for Bushido next year saying: “We will focus on enforcing and being more in union with the Buddha Bar concept. A corporate chef from the establishment will be flown in to train the chefs here this month. “Different DJs from across the world will also be called to the premises to spin the decks and provide our guests with fresh new beats.” To unwind from the daily grind, he enjoys the

simple pleasures life has to offer. “I love going to the beach, watching a movie at the cinema and, of course, trying good food.” He is quick to praise local and regional cuisine and goes on to elaborate why it tickles his taste buds. “I had never tried proper Arabic food till I visited Bahrain, and was utterly spellbound by the melee of flavours and spices used to cook the food.” And food isn’t the only aspect that captivates him about the region. “The warmth and kindness exuded by Bahrainis is gratifying. Friendly and welcoming, they are the personification of true hospitality. I always enjoy interacting with the locals,” he says. In future, Daniel envisions taking all the brands he looks after to greater heights of success. He says: “I want us to be the best not just in the Kingdom, but also in the Middle East. All my endeavours are focused on that final outcome.” www.bahrainthismonth.com
