FUTURE OF MIDDLE EASTERN ART

When? December 10 Event? Art Exhibition Venue? Words Bookstore Café

Pop in to ‘Pop-Up Art – Middle East’ and invest in the future of Middle Eastern art. This four-day exhibition, exclusive to Bahrain, will be held on December 10 at Words Bookstore Café, located on Budaiya Highway. The event will showcase works by artists from Syria, Jordan, Tunisia, Lebanon and Iraq, as well as a British artist presenting exclusive works with a Middle Eastern twist. Works by Sabhan Adam, Ali Ali, Hani Alqam, Toufic Beyhum, Bortusk Leer and Adel Megdiche will be displayed, presenting an opportunity to acquire affordable art from the Arab world’s most established as well as up and coming artists. The exhibition will be inaugurated with a premier screening of ‘After Tomorrow,’ an award-winning documentary on the bedouins of Petra, followed by a Q&A session with co-director Toufic Beyhum. When? December 10-12 Event? Theatre Production Venue? Bahrain Rugby Football Club Preparations are in full swing to bring one of the world’s most loved musicals to Bahrain. The MASK Theatre Company, part of Inspire Bahrain, by brings ‘Cats’ to the Rugby Club from December 10 to 12. Enjoy some feline fun with this all singing, all dancing family show as 100 cats and kittens take to the stage. Be dazzled by choreographer Faten El Gredly’s delightful dance sequences and artistic director Lydia Martin’s fresh

interpretation of the show and exquisite choral moments. Meet Old Deuteronomy and the Magical Mr Mistofeles. Listen to the melodious tones of Bahrain’s favourite Anna Thompson-Hall giving an emotional rendition of the famous showstopper “Memory”. The show timings are 7pm on December 10, 2pm and 7pm on December 11 and 5pm on December 12. Tickets are priced according to three seating areas: Majesticles cost BD12 and BD9; Jellicles cost BD9 and BD7; and Pollicles cost BD7 and BD5 for adults and children under 12, respectively. All profits from Cats will be donated to Think Pink and the Inspire Scholarship fund, which enables talented students from financially disadvantaged families to study the performing arts. AN ENCHANTING FAIRYTALE

Ballet fans are in for a treat as La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art screens Cinderella at its monthly movie night. The Zurcher Ballet mounted this 2003 production of Sergei Prokofiev’s 1945 ballet, with its classic libretto by Nikolai Volkov. It stars Karine Seneca in the title role, Stanislav Jermakov as Frédéric and Marine Castel as The Godmother. The Zurich Opera House Orchestra lends added musical support under the baton of Vladimir Fedoseyev. A ballet for the whole family, the film will take you into the mystical world of fairytales. Tickets are priced at BD10 and its value can be used as credit at the restaurant on the same evening. The film starts at 8pm and the restaurant starts serving from 6.30pm.
