xxxxx Over the past two years we have witnessed significant growth in Bahrain’s maritime activity, and KBSP has been a crucial component in attracting increased trade volumes to the country If you pick up a pack of Kraft cheese, or Tang orange drink mix, from any of Bahrain’s supermarkets and hypermarkets, chances are that you will see printed on it that it is packaged in Bahrain, at the Kraft Foods facility in the BIIP at Hidd. The fact that one of the world’s largest food companies saw it attractive to set-up shop here is indicative of the favourable business climate of Bahrain. The manufacturing plant inside the BIIP is one of Kraft Foods’ largest facilities in the Middle East, with an approximate production of 60,000 tonnes. And the products manufactured here are distributed to many countries in the region. And also fully set-up at BIIP are over 15 other well-known companies such as Oriental Press (printing and publishing), Maskati Bros (paper and plastic products), Halwachi (snack foods processing), UNEECO (electricity panels), Bahrain Prism (glass manufacturing), Creative Design (furniture design) and even a National Institute for Industrial Training. And work on 20 more facilities is underway. In 2008, when Majeed Al Zeera, the president of the Oriental Group Holding, announced that the company would invest US$24 million in plant and machinery for its new printing complex at BIIP, people found it hard to believe. Today, operations are in full swing, which is four times the size of their previous facility. In October 2011, Siemens, a global leader in technology, announced the launch of its Bahrain facility at BIIP. Dr Hassan Fakhro, Bahrain’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, inaugurated the new facility which is built to enhance services for the steel and aluminium industry in the Middle East. “One year on from the announcement that Siemens in Bahrain would establish a service centre to facilitate the Middle East’s steel and aluminum industry and help to reduce downtime of machines for maintenance and repair, the company has officially launched the facility.”
