GAMMA

Based in San Francisco and managed by Bill Graham, the band was focussed around the fiery guitar work of Ronnie Montrose and the power of Scottish born vocalist Davey Pattison. Having cut two albums - both of which were universally acclaimed - Ronnie made significant changes to the band’s line-up and its musical 3 style. Retaining bassist Glen Letsch and drummer Denny Carmassi, he recruited keyboard player Mitchell Froom, a man noted for his penchant for experimental composition. Eschewing the hard rock attack of CANDY178 ‘Gamma 2’, Ronnie now imbibed progressive and electronic influences. He also refused to write with Pattison 5055300378002 preferring instead to collaborate with Froom alone. The results, as might be expected, were somewhat controversial but entirely necessary, displaying another part of Ronnie’s significant musical scope. What’s Gone Is Gone; Right The First Time; Moving Violation; Mobile Devotion; Stranger; Condition Yellow; Modern Girl; No Way Out; Third Degree – Bonus Track: Right The First Time (Single Edit)

FREHLEY’S COMET SECOND SIGHTING

CANDY216 / 5055300377982

‘Second Sighting’ from 1988, was the second outing from the ex-Kiss man gathering together a working band that featured seasoned drummer Jamie Oldaker, ex John Waite bassist John Regan and, perhaps most importantly, songwriter and multiinstrumentalist Tod Howarth, a man who had gained a sterling reputation as leader of cult AOR favourites 707 and live work with both Cheap Trick and Ted Nugent.

Bristling with energy and hard rock firepower, ‘Second Sighting’ takes no prisoners, allowing Ace to stretch out and take command of his legacy in a manner that befitted his explosive and larger than life reputation. Insane; Time Ain’t Runnin’ Out; Dancin’ With Danger; It’s Over Now; Loser In A Fight; Juvenile Delinquent; Fallen Angel; Separate; New Kind Of Lover; The Acorn Is Spinning

ACE FREHLEY TROUBLE WALKIN’

CANDY217 / 5055300377999

With two successful albums recorded under the banner of Frehley’s Comet, Ace retired the band moniker in favour of a solo outing for album #3, the amusingly titled ‘Trouble Walkin’. Issued in 1989, the album reunited Ace with veteran Kiss Producer Eddie Kramer helping to craft a record of high grade hard rock with all the accoutrements that you might reasonably expect from such a maverick character.

With titles such as ‘Shot Full Of Rock’, ‘Five Card Stud’, ‘Hide Your Heart’, ‘and a brilliantly creative cover of ELO’s ‘Do Ya’, Ace unloads salvo upon salvo of lighting fast licks and twisted riffs. Shot Full Of Rock; Do Ya; Five Card Stud; Hide Your Heart; Lost In Limbo; Trouble Walkin’; 2 Young 2 Die; Back To School; Remember Me; Fractured III

HONEYMOON SUITE Hard rock with copious amounts of energy, melody and an almost power pop vibe? Honeymoon Suite were the standard bearers for this kind of sound. Formed in Ontario, Canada in the early 80s around the duo of vocalist Johnnie Dee and guitarist Derry Grehan, they scored successfully in the USA. Specialising in hard hitting songs with powerful riffs and hooks big enough to drive their message into the hearts and charts of melodic rock fans from Niagara Falls to New Mexico and all points in between.

It contains a startling collection of songs including the infectious pop rock of ‘New Girl Now’, the anthemic ‘Turn My Head’, the quirky yet catchy ‘Stay The Night’ and the albums centre piece ‘Burning In Love’, one of the most dynamic AOR tracks of the era. New Girl Now; Burning In Love; Wave Babies; Stay In The Light; Now That You Got Me; Funny Business; Heart On Fire; Turn My Head; It’s Your Heart; Face To Face – Bonus Tracks: Stay In The Light (Remix); We Got The Night (Live); New Girl Now (Live); Stay In The Light (Extended Version); Wave Babies (Edited Version)

THE BIG PRIZE

RACING AFTER MIDNIGHT

For the second album they secured one of the hottest production teams in the business—Bruce Fairbairn (Bon Jovi, AC/DC) and Bob Rock (Mötley Crüe, Metallica). This paid handsome dividends with the album scoring impressive sales and saturation exposure on MTV. It’s a rip-roaring example of perfect pop rock, heavy, forceful yet perfectly conceived. Check out tracks such as ‘Feel It Again’, ‘What Does It Take’ and -‘Bad Attitude’, one of the greatest melodic hard rock tracks of all time.

‘Racing After Midnight’ was the band’s third album for the WEA and signalled a marked maturity. Produced by legendary studio wizard Ted Templeman (Van Halen, Montrose, Doobie Brothers) and recorded in L.a, the album projects a decidedly sophisticated sound but never once compromises the raw power of earlier recordings. With razor-sharp guitar playing from Derry Grehan and anthemic vocal delivery from front man Johnnie Dee, the record is a definitive example of streamlined pop-rock.

Bad Attitude; Feel It Again; Lost And Found; What Does It Take; One By One; Wounded; Words In The Wind; All Along You Knew; Once The Feeling; Take My Hand – Bonus Track: Suite Talk

Lookin’ Out For Number One; Long way Back; Cold Look; Love Fever; Other Side Of Midnight; Love Changes Everything; It’s Over Now; Fast Company; Tears On The Page; Lethal Weapon , Fast Company
