In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country Trans Canada Highway

Overview

Release Date: November 19, 2013

It has been an incredible 2013 for fans of Boards of Canada (hugely successful new album Tomorrow's Harvest, their first new LP in 8 years, followed by the announcement that Warp is reissuing their iconic first 3 albums on vinyl), we're happy to continue the great news with the release of the 3 Warp EPs from one of electronic music's most revered and enigmatic groups. In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country (originally released in 2000) Twoism (released in 2002) and Trans Canada Highway (released in 2006) will all see their first pressings since originally released. Like the LP reissues, each project has been painstakingly produced with the fans in mind, from original DAT tapes and vinyl metal work, to the incredibly matched prints, with each release containing an exclusive sticker. For all details, head to: boardsofcanada.com.

Selling Points

•First ever reissues of BoC EPs •Each EP contains an exclusive sticker •Following 2013's Tomorrow's Harvest, BoC's most successful album to date •These original EPs are highly sought after, hunted online for hundreds of dollars NO EXPORTS

Mug Museum “Cate’s got a knack for summoning a lot of emotion and a lot of spine-tingling creepiness in her soft, lovely falsetto” – Pretty Much Amazing CATE LE BON recently re-located from her native Wales to the emerging Los Angeles neighborhood of Highland Park. Her third album, Mug Museum, is a record made with the type of clarity that a change in perspective only allows. ‘Welsh – Californian’ is a phrase that captures the album’s sound: woozily melodic, dreamily confident and wrapped in a hazy psychedelic gauze. The album was produced by Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart) and Josiah Steinbrick in Los Angeles. Accompanying Le Bon on Mug Museum are multi instrumentalists Sweet Baboo and H. Hawkline and Nick Murray from White Fence. Perfume Genius guests on “I Think I Knew”, a duet garnering early online praise via Brooklyn Vegan, Consequence of Sound, Earbuddy, Pigeons and Plans, Pitchfork, SPIN, Stereogum and Under the Radar among others as well as early support from LA’s influential station, KCRW. A follow up to 2012’s critically acclaimed album, CYRK, which stirred up a solid fan base via it’s smart charm and the national tour with St.Vincent that followed it’s release. Mug Museum’s reflective songwriting weaves around a richly detailed framework. Like all museums it is a contemplative space, a personal world that is open to everyone. As these ten songs attest Mug Museum is also a unique and dreamlike edifice, created by an artist at the height of her powers. GENRE : ROCK / PSYCHEDELIC FILE UNDER: “W” Wooden Shjips RELEASE DATE : November 12, 2013

NO EXPORT TO EUROPE, CANADA, AUSTRALIA Wooden Shjips’ rise to prominence from the psychedelic underground to the rock and roll overground has been a steady sojourn. With each consecutive release, the band has found new ways of transforming heady psychedelic rock into minimalist masterpieces, bridging the gap between the woozy freeness of Les Rallizes Denudes and Crazy Horse and the tightly wound simplicity of Suicide and the Velvet Underground. Back To Land, the quartet’s follow-up to West, is the first Wooden Shjips record to be conceived outside of San Francisco. Ripley Johnson and Omar Ahsanuddin moved to Oregon, where the lush climates became a major influence on the songwriting. The band’s scope expanded to include more earthy, grounded tones, such as the acoustic guitar, without abandoning their modernist psych core. There is an increased brightness to many of the songs on Back To Land, an easiness with which the band has flirted with in the past but never fully realized until now. The nervy urgency of West has evolved into an assured confidence, from the alliterative, interlocking guitar and organ groove of “Ruins” to the languidly compelling guitar solos of “Servants.” The addition of the acoustic guitar to the band’s textural palate is coupled here with some of the most melodically direct songs the band has written. Still, there are still plenty of signature Shjips songs, with distorted riffs, modal keys, and a steady, crisp drum sound unfolding intensely while the elongated melodic guitar lines drift in and out of the foreground. On Back to Land this energy is captured in clear detail, designed as an immersive experience rather than a passive blasting. Back To Land was laid to tape at Jackpot Recording Studios in Portland by Kendra Lynn and mixed by Larry Crane. It was recorded over an 11-day session, resulting in some of the most detailed and spacious recordings of their career. Back To Land is a breakthrough record for the Wooden Shjips: nuanced, varied and utterly addictive.

HEIDECKER & WOOD SOME THINGS NEVER STAY THE SAME STREET DATE 11.12.2013 Let’s lay it all out on the table: this is the self-indulgent sophomore album. The horns, the female back-up singers, the songs about life on the road and redemption for indiscretions that remain vague to protect the innocent, but mostly the guilty. It’s by turns pompous, funny, overproduced, underbaked, overly serious and not serious enough. All in a good way, of course! Heidecker & Wood are comedian/writer/actor Tim Heidecker (“Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”, “Tim and Eric Billion Dollar Movie”, “The Comedy”, “Bridesmaids”) and his longtime musical collaborator composer/multi-instrumentalist Davin Wood (“Awesome Show”, Billion Dollar Movie”). Some Things Never Stay The Same is the follow-up to 2011’s Starting From Nowhere and expands upon that blueprint with a little more of everything. It’s an ode to the heyday of the great 70s songwriters/studio rats – Randy Newman, Warren Zevon, Harry Nilsson, and, hell, even Boz Scaggs, to name a few. Take opener “Cocaine,” for instance, which sets one of the record’s many tones. The jaunty “Werewolves of London” riff undoes the damage done by Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long” and is probably the first truly honest depiction of the white lady in rock. From there, Tim and Davin bust out all the right tropes. Latin-ish bridge? Check - the bridge on “What Else Is New.” Rock March? Check - the end of “Getaway Man.” Blues rock rave up? Check - “Waiting For Your Call.” (Bonus Track) Pink Floyd sonic excursion? Check - “Sunday Man.” Springsteen rock gospel? Check - “Salvation Street.” But, really, there’s much more to the record than simple genre goofs. It’s chock full of catchy hooks and unabashed ringers with some of LA’s best musicians, including two cameos by Aimee Mann, guitar and vocal work from Eric Johnson (The Shins, Fruit Bats), and top-notch performances by guitarist Mike Bloom, drummers Jason Boesel and Mike Green, and more from Pierre de Reeder (Rilo Kiley). Rock has also always been ridiculous, funny, silly, has had meaning when no meaning was intended, and no meaning when meaning was really intended. So why bother parsing or analyzing? Just sit back and enjoy Heidecker & Wood’s tasty licks, the classic AM radio melodies and the intentional/unintentional laughs. Or stand up and walk around with headphones and listen. Or ride a bike. Just make sure you’re wearing a helmet.

Blue Rodeo IN OUR NATURE The definition of a rebel is someone who goes against the grain. For close to thirty years now, Blue Rodeo has taken the road less traveled - and succeeded far beyond anyone’s expectations. The band emerged in the early 80’s as a countrified rock band in the era of hair metal and glossy pop. ________________________________________________________________ Despite sticking out like a sore thumb (or maybe because of it), their single “Try” became omni-present on radio across Canada and set in motion a three decade long career of headlining every club, theatre and arena in Canada. In 1993, when grunge rock was squeezing commercial rock off the radio, they recorded their most acoustic album, Five Days In July, and scored their biggest hit selling over a half million copies of that one record alone. And now, in the digital age, while everyone else is thinking of ways to sell single songs through the internet or snippets of songs on cell phones, Blue Rodeo has recorded In Our Nature, an intimate album designed to be enjoyed on vinyl. Thirteen albums on, the rebels live.

louis logic splashed onto the indie rap scene "party foul" style in 1999 with the drinker's anthem "Factotum". He spawned a laundry list of collaborations with artists like Jedi Mind Tricks, MF DOOM, Malik B of the Roots, and even pop rapper Travie McCoy from Gym Class Heroes. His 2003 debut Sin-A-Matic cemented him in listeners' minds as a standard for dark romantic comedy and shock rap. Louis' taste for musical exploration grew with the release his most mature record to date, Misery Loves Comedy (2006), on which he officially partnered with longtime producer J.J. Brown. It was then that Louis executed his most mysterious and adventurous move yet, retreating into monastic seclusion to study voice, piano and music theory. When he emerged, it was touting a new Copenhagen, Denmark based live Surf/Hip-Hop/Balkan fusion band, Spork Kills, which he debuted with the Beaches Love US EP (2009) featuring the video that garnered his first MTV exposure, "Night of the Hip 'N Dead". He continued to tour worldwide throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, cultivating a theatrical live show that managed to amalgamate rapping, singing, piano playing and even stand up comedy. After 7 years of radio silence, music study, extensive touring and artistic exploration, Louis will follow up his 2006 record with his first self-produced album on progressive indie label Fake Four Inc. Titled "Look On The Blight Side", it's a rap record in an indie-pop, singer/songwriter style, completely sample free, with original arrangements written and played by Louis. This dark collection of songs gives fans a revealing look into his long journey of self discovery. Louis takes to the road beginning in the summer of 2013 to start sharing songs from the new album live in preparation for his November release.

This replaces EVIL00501CD (Redeye catalogue # CD-CKME-00501) This six-song, half-hour CD the band’s affecting a more rural, lonesome-sounding tone and a moodier, more deliberate pace; the more traditional feel meshes well with Anton Newcombe's twisting of country-gospel lyrical clichés into rock & roll attitude. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music. This 15 track compilation spans the years 1995 – 2004 featuring key tracks from all their albums as well and live recordings and many unreleased tracks. Volume 2 will be released in early 2014 . 11.12.2013

Overview

"Layer by layer the album reveals itself as one of the most dynamic of 2013" – Vice “perfectly embraceable” – The Wire

The direction of G.I. Jane, the follow up EP to 2013's triumphant return Glow connects Jackson's IDM-revolving, high definition productions with heavy pop structures and full fledged vocal epics. "G.I.Jane" takes off into Thin Lizzy meets Carl Craig levels of dance synth mania, while "Vista" keeps a steady French House build, washed in 90's soundtrack keys. Jackson's own remix re-emphasizes the techno base of Detroit soundscapes.

Format: 12” Vinyl Boxlot: 25 Price: $11.99 Packaging: 12” in spined sleeve with white paper inner

TNGHT's Hudson Mohawke provides support from the new generation of Warp Records' roster with an explosive version of "Vista". HudMo has had an incredible run of late, producing tracks on recent releases from Drake and Kanye West, as well as making a name with powerful remixes from Waka Flocka Flame and AlunaGeorge. Title: Make A Livinʼ

Overview “...gunfire of grime and rave accents proving that he still has a few surprises up his sleeve.” – XLR8R 8/10 The multiple aliased and prolific Mark Pritchard returns with the third in a series of 12” EPs on Warp. Previously making the rounds in the VIP DJ sets of tastemak-ing producers worldwide, Make A Livin’ takes over where Africa Hitech’s 93 Million Miles left off. Blending chaotic elements of air horns, drum rolls, and echoing vocals, Pritchard nods subtley at dancehall and dub while maintaining the distinctive driving rhythms that have made him a staple for over 20 years. A natural multi-instrumentalist, Roger Eno is fascinated by sound, stories and landscapes; the legacy of his unique upbringing with his Flemish mother and formative years with a celebrated brother, and also by the nature of the Suffolk countryside he was born into. Perhaps best known for his collaboration with brother Brian and Daniel Lanois on 1983's classic Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks, he has been a prolific composer for Films &TV. Many listeners may not think they're familiar with any of his work but they probably are - his music features in Dune (David Lynch), 9 1/2 Weeks (which made extensive use of his debut solo album Voices), Trainspotting (the infamous toilet scene!), and more.

RHYS CHATHAM Harmonie du soir Rhys Chatham’s Harmonie du soir presents three heavenly compositions. The title track is the first major piece written for the configuration of six electric guitars, electric bass and drums since Die Donnergötter (1986). The second is The Dream of Rhonabwy, a piece written for large brass ensemble and percussion, realized in 2012 by a 70-piece brass band called Harmonie de Pontarlier, lead by the French conductor Patrick Erard. The last track on the CD version and bonus download for the vinyl edition is a 2012 studio performance of Drastic Classicism Revisited featuring Rhys Chatham, David Daniell, and Ryan Sawyer. The whole package is presented lovingly, mastered beautifully by James Plotkin, with extensive notes by Mr. Chatham.

“Utilizing multiple electric guitars and a single chord, 1977’s Guitar Trio is composer Rhys Chatham’s signature work, and a euphoric, minimal-punk classic. It’s an inspired amalgamation — the droning, shimmering harmonics of John Cale and Tony Conrad fused with the power and fury of the Ramones — that had a meteoric impact. It placed Chatham at the forefront of the burgeoning No Wave scene; its influence then spread further, as protégés and participants in Chatham’s ensembles — including Glenn Branca and members of Sonic Youth — folded the sound into their own. Guitar Trio remains a composition with a half-life, an adventure in sound that continues to radiate influence and inspiration.” — Table of the Elements

“[Rhys Chatham] is one of noise rock’s founding fathers. Without him, there would be no Sonic Youth, no Jesus and Mary Chain, no My Bloody Valentine . . . he remains a towering figure among six-string aficionados.” — Greg Kot, Chicago Tribune, author of Wilco: Learning How to Die “It might justly be considered music to pray to.” — Will Hermes, The New York Times “Surging phosphorescence… Uplifting.” — David Fricke, Rolling Stone “Stunning.” — Byron Coley, Wire Magazine

THE BO-KEYS FEATURING PERCY WIGGINS “THE DARK END OF THE STREET” EP THE BO-KEYS join with legendary vocalists SPENCER WIGGINS & PERCY WIGGINS for a deep soul rendition of the DAN PENN & CHIPS MOMAN classic hit, “THE DARK END OF THE STREET.” Versions by Cat Power, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Ryan Adams, and in the film "The Commitments" have kept it in the public eye. “WIND UP MONKEY” sounds like a lost, funky instrumental cut from STAX or DUKE/PEACOCK. The Bo-Keys are a Memphis Soul group featuring legendary Stax/Volt and Hi Records session players. The Bo-Keys performed the original score for Hustle & Flow, and appear in the film Soul Men, performing on-screen with stars Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac. They also appear on three songs for the film's soundtrack. In 2010 The Bo-Keys were featured on Cyndi Lauper's Grammy-nominated Memphis Blues album. The band’s latest release Got to Get Back! has been featured on NPR, the BBC, the Wall Street Journal and USA Today. Vocalist Percy Wiggins cut sides in the 60s for RCA and ATCO with a band which included Billy Cox and Larry Lee who later went on to become members of Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsies.

It’s been a big year for Breach, a.k.a. Ben Westbeech. His track ‘Jack’ hasn’t just blown up on dancefloors across the globe: it’s laid waste to them. In the process, ‘Jack’ got to Number 9 in the UK charts. Not bad considering Westbeech has always seen Breach as an underground thing. “It’s been wonderful having a record that's commercially successful,” he says. “The thing is not to lose sight of why you started making music in the first place. I wasn’t trying to get in the Top Ten. I just care about making deep records that I get off on.” Take Breach’s DJ Kicks mix, for example. If all you know about Breach is ‘Jack’, you’re in for a surprise. Likewise, if you’re familiar with Westbeech as a vocalist you might have to have a bit of a reappraisal. “This is the music that I love, the kind of thing that I play when I DJ,” explains Westbeech. “I made ‘Jack’ and I play it, but there’s a lot more to the music I love than that.” The mix opens with the spooked atmospherics of ‘Prince Of The Immortal Woods’ by Innercity, before shifting into the soft, rounded bassline and euphoric strings of ‘Triangle Vision’ by Wire People and the 4AM jacking house groove that is Beesmunt Soundsystem’s ‘All Day’. ‘It Is What It Is’ by Fred P is an important point in the set. The echoes of Detroit techno sum up where Westbeech’s head is at right now. Other highlights include ‘Attention Seeker’ by Iron Galaxy and ‘How’s The Music’ by Winx, better know as Josh Wink. Westbeech’s exclusive track is ‘Beroving’, which means ‘deprivation’ in Dutch. It’s a beautiful, evocative sound from the interface of house and techno, a world away from ‘Jack’, but every bit as good. “Since ‘Jack’s blown, I’ve been gigging so much, just on the road all the time. My life is missing sleep. I’m deprived of making music and being in the studio. I put this mix together and did the track in such a short space of time. I’m deprived of time at the moment so it seemed like a fitting word.”

BERNIE WORRELL - keyboard legend, founding member and essential collaborator/composer/arranger in George Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic, has worked with an extremely diverse array of artists, the amount of which is practically inconceivable -Talking Heads, Bootsy Collins, The Rolling Stones, Lee ”Scratch” Perry, Black Uhuru, Fela Kuti, Burning Spear, Pharoah Sanders, Buddy Guy, Sly & The Family Stone, Mos Def, Albert King, Sly & Robbie and so many more. Without a doubt, the most influential and definitely the most emulated and copied electronic keyboardist in modern music. His synthesizer work totally defined 80’s and 90’s West Coast Hip Hop and can still be clearly recognized in the pop hits of today. ELEVATION is his first solo acoustic creation. Intimate, personal, atmospheric and touching, a humble statement which is both vulnerable and surprisingly child-like at moments. This is clearly the most unexpected and uniquely unusual contribution from this musical icon to date. Songs and themes (some recognizable... some as dreams) will appear as flashbacks and memories, some conscious, some subconscious. Based upon simple themes by John Coltrane, Joe Zawinul, Bob Marley, Carlos Santana, Charles Mingus and others. With delicate impressions of classic soul music from his own history and three original ambient soundscapes, delivered with a strikingly minimalist touch. This music has to be felt, not analyzed , compared, judged or even listened to. It exists in the distance... past and future. Produced by legendary ikonoklast, Bill Laswell, with original artwork by Japan’s modern master - Shinro Otake. GRAPH RABBIT COMFORTABLY NUMB BSR007 LP / DIGITAL List Price: 19.98 / 3.99 UPC: LP 654367874882; Digital 654367899984 Release Date: November 12, 2013 Genre: Rock, Neo-Folk, Ambient Domain: N. America Box Lot: LP: 40 LP: Limited edition of 250 on White Vinyl. Track Listing: 1. Comfortably Numb (7:44), 2. Only Fields (Sparkle Remix) (12:42) The choice to cover Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” grew out of a conversation between Graph Rabbit and their producer Allen Farmelo about how the band’s music casts a dream-like spell over their audiences. Farmelo quipped, “It’s like they have become comfortably numb.” Lead singer Austin Donohue lit up, proclaiming his love for the iconic rock song. Two weeks later they were in the studio tracking it. During the weeks leading up to the session, Donohue studied both roles he’d have to play: the confident doctor played by Roger Waters on the verses and the vulnerable patient played by David Gilmour on the choruses. Pitched higher and more delicately than the original, Donohue brings a frailness to both roles, re-calibrating the song’s emotional center. Both doctor and patient appear caught in a strange, vulnerable moment together. The track is 100% Graph Rabbit, with sedate acoustic guitar strumming and the endlessly evolving arpeggios that are the curiously seductive synth work of Shy Kedmi. But, this time, Graph Rabbit is joined by a rhythm section made up of producer Farmelo on bass and label-mate Blurry on drums. Cut live without a click track, the entire recording moves with a vast emotional power that support’s the frail vocal perfectly. Despite the fact that the guitar solos on Pink Floyd’s version from The Wall are some of the most iconic in rock history, Graph Rabbit was so focused on the vocal delivery that it wasn’t until the session that those assembled nervously asked who the hell is going to play the solos? Farmelo, who recently acquired a temperamental Moog delay pedal from the Wilco camp, took to the task himself and came up with a single take that - like the vocal - rearranges the emotions of the song. Devoid of the passionate, bluesy expression of Glimour’s solos, Farmelo’s fretwork casts an uncanny etherial fog out of which he pulls blurred melodies that somehow also remain faithful to the original. The feeling is one of bliss rather than anguish - a different kind of numbness, heavy with psychedelic overtones and, perhaps, even joy. The B-side is a 12-minute extended remix of Graph Rabbit’s single from their debut album Snowblind, itself a blurry bed of down-tempo acoustic guitar, rolling synth arpeggios and handbells sampled from and Estonian bell choir album.

ROCK CANDY REISSUES . JEWEL CASES. $20.99 EACH. REMASTERED WITH BONUS TRACKS. EXTENSIVE BOOKLETS WITH ESSAYS, INTERVIEWS AND RARE PHOTOS. 12th NOVEMBER.

GAMMA

Based in San Francisco and managed by Bill Graham, the band was focussed around the fiery guitar work of Ronnie Montrose and the power of Scottish born vocalist Davey Pattison. Having cut two albums - both of which were universally acclaimed - Ronnie made significant changes to the band’s line-up and its musical 3 style. Retaining bassist Glen Letsch and drummer Denny Carmassi, he recruited keyboard player Mitchell Froom, a man noted for his penchant for experimental composition. Eschewing the hard rock attack of CANDY178 ‘Gamma 2’, Ronnie now imbibed progressive and electronic influences. He also refused to write with Pattison 5055300378002 preferring instead to collaborate with Froom alone. The results, as might be expected, were somewhat controversial but entirely necessary, displaying another part of Ronnie’s significant musical scope. What’s Gone Is Gone; Right The First Time; Moving Violation; Mobile Devotion; Stranger; Condition Yellow; Modern Girl; No Way Out; Third Degree – Bonus Track: Right The First Time (Single Edit)

FREHLEY’S COMET SECOND SIGHTING

CANDY216 / 5055300377982

‘Second Sighting’ from 1988, was the second outing from the ex-Kiss man gathering together a working band that featured seasoned drummer Jamie Oldaker, ex John Waite bassist John Regan and, perhaps most importantly, songwriter and multiinstrumentalist Tod Howarth, a man who had gained a sterling reputation as leader of cult AOR favourites 707 and live work with both Cheap Trick and Ted Nugent.

Bristling with energy and hard rock firepower, ‘Second Sighting’ takes no prisoners, allowing Ace to stretch out and take command of his legacy in a manner that befitted his explosive and larger than life reputation. Insane; Time Ain’t Runnin’ Out; Dancin’ With Danger; It’s Over Now; Loser In A Fight; Juvenile Delinquent; Fallen Angel; Separate; New Kind Of Lover; The Acorn Is Spinning

ACE FREHLEY TROUBLE WALKIN’

CANDY217 / 5055300377999

With two successful albums recorded under the banner of Frehley’s Comet, Ace retired the band moniker in favour of a solo outing for album #3, the amusingly titled ‘Trouble Walkin’. Issued in 1989, the album reunited Ace with veteran Kiss Producer Eddie Kramer helping to craft a record of high grade hard rock with all the accoutrements that you might reasonably expect from such a maverick character.

With titles such as ‘Shot Full Of Rock’, ‘Five Card Stud’, ‘Hide Your Heart’, ‘and a brilliantly creative cover of ELO’s ‘Do Ya’, Ace unloads salvo upon salvo of lighting fast licks and twisted riffs. Shot Full Of Rock; Do Ya; Five Card Stud; Hide Your Heart; Lost In Limbo; Trouble Walkin’; 2 Young 2 Die; Back To School; Remember Me; Fractured III

HONEYMOON SUITE Hard rock with copious amounts of energy, melody and an almost power pop vibe? Honeymoon Suite were the standard bearers for this kind of sound. Formed in Ontario, Canada in the early 80s around the duo of vocalist Johnnie Dee and guitarist Derry Grehan, they scored successfully in the USA. Specialising in hard hitting songs with powerful riffs and hooks big enough to drive their message into the hearts and charts of melodic rock fans from Niagara Falls to New Mexico and all points in between.

HONEYMOON SUITE

CANDY188 / 5055300377920 Released 1984, the debut album was produced by fellow Canadian Tom Treumuth (Helix, the Spoons). It contains a startling collection of songs including the infectious pop rock of ‘New Girl Now’, the anthemic ‘Turn My Head’, the quirky yet catchy ‘Stay The Night’ and the albums centre piece ‘Burning In Love’, one of the most dynamic AOR tracks of the era. New Girl Now; Burning In Love; Wave Babies; Stay In The Light; Now That You Got Me; Funny Business; Heart On Fire; Turn My Head; It’s Your Heart; Face To Face – Bonus Tracks: Stay In The Light (Remix); We Got The Night (Live); New Girl Now (Live); Stay In The Light (Extended Version); Wave Babies (Edited Version)

THE BIG PRIZE

RACING AFTER MIDNIGHT

For the second album they secured one of the hottest production teams in the business—Bruce Fairbairn (Bon Jovi, AC/DC) and Bob Rock (Mötley Crüe, Metallica). This paid handsome dividends with the album scoring impressive sales and saturation exposure on MTV. It’s a rip-roaring example of perfect pop rock, heavy, forceful yet perfectly conceived. Check out tracks such as ‘Feel It Again’, ‘What Does It Take’ and -‘Bad Attitude’, one of the greatest melodic hard rock tracks of all time.

‘Racing After Midnight’ was the band’s third album for the WEA and signalled a marked maturity. Produced by legendary studio wizard Ted Templeman (Van Halen, Montrose, Doobie Brothers) and recorded in L.a, the album projects a decidedly sophisticated sound but never once compromises the raw power of earlier recordings. With razor-sharp guitar playing from Derry Grehan and anthemic vocal delivery from front man Johnnie Dee, the record is a definitive example of streamlined pop-rock.

Bad Attitude; Feel It Again; Lost And Found; What Does It Take; One By One; Wounded; Words In The Wind; All Along You Knew; Once The Feeling; Take My Hand – Bonus Track: Suite Talk

Lookin’ Out For Number One; Long way Back; Cold Look; Love Fever; Other Side Of Midnight; Love Changes Everything; It’s Over Now; Fast Company; Tears On The Page; Lethal Weapon , Fast Company

Dreamers have dreamt for as long as domes have fallen, bobbing musical swells from Stephen Foster to the Everlys. Now here comes that beautiful dreamer Josephine and, sugarpie, she’s not the same. She has donned her magenta vestments, dreaming back, with mossy verses that haunt like a name never called. It’s not just Jo and her shadow, though, this time around—she’s got a gaggle of Nashville cats on hand to coax spidery cathedrals from these campfire jams. Folks will want to call this her Harvest—with its harp and pedal steel, its double bass and cascading piano. And it’s true, I’m a Dreamer beckons with a gentle hand, each note clear and crisp so that one feels each grain. Amid such delicate charms, however, lurk muses with rotting flesh, ugly ducklings and Djuna Barnes, wooden floors upon which no babies will be rocked. Wily is the heart that wanders filled with duende and desire, that rides the thigh like a parlor guitar when a strap just isn’t handy. These are songs comfortably at home in salon or saloon, dreams deep enough to bury your dread--as sorrowful, as sexy, as stirring a set of songs as anybody’s dreamt up in ages. Like Like The The The Death Cave Jenny Like Like The The The Death (we'll just go with LLTTTD, since it's easier to type) are noisy like Jehu, catchy like Superchunk, and have a ridiculous nonsense name like the Archers, and they just recorded a record called Cave Jenny that wraps 'em up in a tight little ball of antimatter and blasts them through reality into the present and beyond. Twin guit-slingers Anthony Weber and Michael Marchant handle their instruments like beekeeper field recordings, while Weber and bassist Kyle Scheuer try to out-shout each other on “Here Comes Irregular,” the opening salvo in Cave Jenny's half-hour game of noise-rock tag. It's your classic “one dude screams and one dude kinda sings sorta” formula that scoops some sugar in with the medicine, adding enough pop candy to the mix to make the whole concoction as addictive as a bag of Sour Patch Kids. Meanwhile, drummer Dan Hanke keeps things chugging full force with clockwork precision (the dude did spend the last year holding down the throne behind Die Kreuzen's kit between Eric Tunison's flights into the country for shows, ya know).

Select Reviews “Weber and Scheuer provide the perfect balance of screamy/singy vocals on Ghosts Of Dead Bros, a high-energy collection of indie that treads that precarious high wire between noise and pop. If that’s not compelling enough, LLTTTD managed to squeeze out a power-pop diamond in the mandatory sing-along “Holy Ghosty.” - A.V. Club “Like Like The The The Death (let’s just use LLTTTD from here on in, eh?) was EXCELLENT. This is a tight, TIGHT band that deals heavily in hooks and methodically-contained chaos, spin-cycle drumbeats, vocal tradeoffs that often sound like a squabble inside of a Cretaceous aviary, and all of this comes together in a sound that is both as urgent and ominous as an air-raid siren. IT’S GREAT ROCK AND ROLL...Here’s the thing: LLTTTD have a Trojan Horse of a track called “Holy Ghostly” that is a pure pop confection with a soaring chorus, some crisp guitar work, and 90% of the swarf removed. It’s a warm weather, drive-around-with-the-top-down kind of song. “Holy Ghostly” should be the Song Of The Summer in Milwaukee and everywhere else. - Stripwax

“LLTTTD adopted its supremely awkward name from the title of a Silver Jews song. If one squints sideways and rationalizes things enough, the song could almost be considered a blueprint for this Milwaukee band: disjointed guitars, motorik drums, and absurdist, world-weary vocals. But the similarities stop there as soon as LLTTTD cranks up the tempo, dissonance, and fuzz, injecting elements of hardcore, art-noise, and, yes, pop. - Toeleven.net

SALES POINTS Pulse Emitter has been crafting his unique take on cosmic synth music for nearly a decade with sold out releases on Digitalis, Gift Tapes, Root Strata, NNA Tapes, Aguirre and Tranquility Tapes Crate Lake is pressed on high quality virgin vinyl and packaged in a full color jacket featuring cover artwork from William Hutchinson. Limited first pressing is on blue vinyl. A free download coupon is included. Crater Lake was mastered and cut to vinyl by Andreas [LUPO] Lubich in Berlin and is the first Pulse Emitter album released by Immune following the side-long contribution to Immune’s 2012 Record Store Day 4 way split release.

With an array of handmade modular and vintage keyboard synthesizers Daryl Groetsch crafts melodic and layered compositions that evoke microscopic and interstellar landscapes inspired by nature, science fiction and the cosmos.  Groetsch has been working under the Pulse Emitter monicker since 2002,  composing and recording in his Portland, OR home studio.  Writer David Keenan has called Pulse Emitter “the undisputed king of planetary scale synth hypnosis” and has said, “no one is making synth music that feels so organic, so rapturous and so ‘in tune’ with the contours of outer and inner space as Groetsch.” Inspiration for Crater Lake came from a spiritually moving camping trip Groetsch took to Crater Lake National Park in Oregon where he found it to be one of the most stunningly beautiful places he had ever been.  At the time he was conceptualizing an album inspired by the moons of Jupiter and Saturn and noticing similarities between the features of Crater Lake and the moons caused Groetsch to create an album influenced by both the nature in front of him and the cosmos above. On Crater Lake Groetsch delivers his most intricately composed pieces yet by experimenting with melody and pattern synchronization. Groetsch’s working method begins with conceptualizing each piece and then composing on paper, MIDI sequencing the tracks, synth programming, and finally recording and mixing. Album opener “Europa” was inspired by the clear blue water of Crater Lake and also relates to the icy surface of the moon Europa that is believed to have an ocean of water underneath it.  The album’s second track “lo” is about Crater Lake’s ominous and harsh rock outcropping as well as the volcanic forces taking place underneath Crater Lake and the volcanoes covering the moon lo.

Pulse Emitter has performed in both Europe and North America and will perform shows in support of Crater Lake. IMMUNE

Peru

Maravilloso Tiger’s Milk Records first took shape in 2012 after Peruvian cook and restaurateur Martin Morales, also a record collector, DJ and former Head of iTunes Pan EU, opened his Peruvian restaurant in London, Ceviche. His passion and enthusiasm for Peruvian music and cooking led to a meeting with Duncan Ballantyne (Soundway / Naïve / Far Out). The label was formed and a debut 7” of archive Peruvian cuts was released to widespread praise in 2012. Now moving to their first full length compilation, Tiger’s Milk Records presents PERU MARAVILLOSO, the result of many years obsessively collecting Peruvian music: it’s in their blood. With a focus on ‘60s and ‘70s Latin and tropical music, this debut album features a selection of vintage cuts and unknown treasures from one of Peru’s most exciting musical periods. The vast majority of these songs were only ever pressed once on vinyl and have remained unreleased since.Whilst recognising the music of cumbia, guaracha and the electric sound of chicha, PERU MARAVILLOSO owes as much to soul-jazz, Latin-jazz, rock and psychedelia as it does to the traditional styles of Andean, Peruvian criollo and Latin music that dominated the cultural backdrop of Peru during this era. It was the dogged work of labels like Iempsa, Sono Radio, FTA and Infopesa who tirelessly promoted and produced the bands and tracks featured on this compilation. Much of these labels’ output had some degree of Western influence as they recognised the tastes of Peruvians who were in tune with Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles, artists who wrote songs in which the electric guitar was fundamental to their sound. Many of the bandleaders of Peruvian groups were guitarists so their Latin compositions often took on a psychedelic twist, often with simple, hypnotic rhythms and repetitive basslines but always stamped with a unique mix of Peruvian, Andean, Spanish and African influence. This record does not attempt to showcase a singular strand or genre. It’s beauty lies in its raw diversity. Nor does it offer a window into the Peruvian rock or garage scene that was also present in the same period although there are certain clues in tracks like the horn laden reinterpretation of ‘Meshkalina’, originally written by one of Peru’s most respected rock bands Traffic Sound, and the electrified groove of ‘El Chacarero’ by Los Gatos Blancos. It’s clear that there was not only mutual appreciation of different styles by Latin and rock composers but a healthy desire to combine ideas and experiment. As such, PERU MARAVILLOSO offers a first-of-a-kind snapshot of Peru in a bygone era, highlighting its many Latin expressions and identities, a country with a remarkable musical history, which never ceases to surprise. PERU MARAVILLOSO is compiled by Duncan Ballantyne, Martin Morales and Andres Tapia. Tiger’s Milk Records is part of Ceviche, a restaurant serving Peruvian cuisine in London. A recipe book entitled ‘Ceviche: Peruvian Kitchen’ written by Martin Morales was released in July 2013 and entered the Amazon UK top 10 non-fiction chart. The Ceviche team have just returned from their first ever UK pop-up restaurant tour, visiting 14 UK cities and towns. About the compilers: Martin Morales has produced albums in London, Cuba, Peru, Spain and Italy. He has worked with Matthew Herbert, Chucho Valdez, Oi Va Voi, Omara Portuondo, Tata Guines, Orquesta America, Orquesta Aragon and Novalima. Duncan Ballantyne has managed various record labels including Soundway Records, Brazilian label Far Out and managed Naive in the UK. Andres Tapia runs Resychled Record in Lima, Peru and has released countless titles exploring the rock, punk and garage scenes that developed in Peru in the ‘60s and ‘70s. After her much lauded debut ‘Playin’ Me’ last year, Cooly G returns with an EP that switches from songwriting mode to create extended, spaced out and rhythmic house tracks built for the dancefloor. ‘Hold Me’ starts with minor note stabs and Cooly's vocal refrain “Hold me” over a punchy bassline. The rhythm slowly builds as the vocal becomes more dubbed out and the atmosphere more smokey. ‘Oi Dirty’, made with DVA, is a piece of wonky, rhythmically lopsided house with a cavernous elasticized bassline and lots of micro detail destabilising the track then bringing it back, pitching drums and mini breakdowns. ‘Molly‘ is a slow burning 4/4 house track built around a static grid that gradually builds up, getting stiffer and more intense, with wobbly acid-like synth lines and hissing static stabs, underpinned by a one note bass kick. It’s a masterclass in creating tension with sleight of hand production moves.

Patrick Higgins String Quartet No. 2 + Glacia A collectible, double LP of two works by New York avant-garde composer Patrick Higgins. Printed on custom three-color splatter vinyl, String Quartet No.2 + Glacia is a unique pairing of a work of modern classical music with its own electronic “remix” - an experimental recomposition of the string quartet, manipulating and layering playback speed and duration. Part one presents Higgins’ String Quartet No.2, a seven movement work that explores the function of memory and recollection as musical forms. Developing across a palindromic movement structure, the quartet moves through a cycle of compositional styles from diatonic tonal material, to atonal, lyrical writing, to twelve-tone, micro-tonal, and indeterminate materials--the work is concerned with the ability of musical form to reconstruct or “remember” across extreme developments in material. This work was composed throughout 2011 and premiered by the Mivos Quartet at Littlefield Art Space in Brooklyn, January 2012. It received its second performance at Issue Project Room in Frebruary 2012, with a third at (le) Poisson Rouge in downtown Manhattan, October 2013. Part two presents Glacia. This work is an experimental re-imagining of String Quartet No.2, exploring extreme durational shifts and radical sound-field manipulations. Inspired by the interchange of the perceptual and physical properties of ice fields, it is a music that is at once static, monolithic and integrated, while still fluid, fragile, dynamic, and fleeting. At South-by-Southwest: “it wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable to name Patrick Higgins the best guitarist of the 2013 event. By some combination of talent and a well-conceived rig, he makes breakneck playing look effortless.” - Premier Guitar Magazine “polyglot NYC composer” and “out-of-the-box classical guitarist” part of “New York’s generation of up-andcoming composers” - Time Out NY “Mr. Higgins made his guitar chords chime and scrape and judder [...] it was also bright, severe, and specific.” - New York Times “classical composer [...] well known as a gifted guitarist at home on the more brutal, punky fringes of the progrock community” - The New Yorker “[Bachanalia] is almost unstoppable. Relentlessly pretty. And sounding as though it’s been Patrick Higgins’ lifetime-achievement goal to sound flawless on guitar [...] Just, the most important part is performance. Watching the flow of [Higgins] music through their entire body floods your senses.” - Tiny Mix Tapes String Quartet No.2 “[Higgins’] ear for sound and craft of vibrating wood presents tremendous composure within a piece teetering on the brink of madness.” - Tiny Mix Tapes STEREO: “The level of ambition and execution in this three-part, 40 minute long composition are powerfully matched, and the level of technique and the sheer amount of polyphony in this piece are actually stunning.” - IMPOSE Magazine “Hearing the musicians bring forth these harsh, fascinating sounds, you could only wonder what [Higgins’] score must look like. I imagined bars of music flecked with metal shavings and rust.” - The Brooklyn Rail

GENRE : ROCK FILE UNDER : “B” Brother JT NO EXPORT TO EUROPE, CANADA, AUSTRALIA EXPORTABLE TO JAPAN “When one slaps JT’s new platter down to savor all its glammy, greasy goodness, one is immediately struck by the rightness of this record’s name: ‘The Svelteness of Boogietude’” - High Times “... another dazzling platter of high-grade glam, psych and, in the lone case of “Sweatpants,” chopped-andscrewed Southern rap” - Spin “With ‘The Svelteness of Boogietude’ Brother JT has laid down a masterpiece of glam for the unglamorous; rock for the real; cool grooves for each and every one of us that has discovered we managed to get our shirt a couple of buttonholes off halfway through the evening.” - JamBands “Brother JT gets the wild abandon of the Nuggets era, as well as the fuzz-guitar’d sonics, celebrating his own singularity in songs that push at the boundaries of the genre.” - Blurt Fri
