YUROK TRIBE MMIWG/MMIP STATE CAPITAL GATHERING
Redding R anche Ria
On Tuesday, February 7, in Sacramento, our Redding Rancheria Tribal Council members supported the Yurok Tribe led event addressing the MMIWG/MMIP crisis in our nation. The first Native California Assembly Member and San Manuel Tribal member, James Ramos, spoke alongside many other tribal leaders and legislators in support of bills AB273 and AB44 which will give rights to tribal police and support tribal foster children, both helping combat MMIWG/WWIP. Senator Ramos also calls to California governor and legislation to give $200 million dollars to raise awareness and put prevention into action.

Just last year, 1 in 3 indigenous women experienced violence, which is incredibly disproportionate considering their white counterparts. Homicide is also the third leading cause of death for indigenous women in the nation. This crisis must be acknowledged and changes must be made to protect our indigenous sisters and family members.
