THE SITE

THE CONCEPT

Guelph is a densely populated town in Ontario, located not far from Toronto. The site is located on the outskirts of downtown in an area that is slated for major development. It was important to incorporate circulation from downtown and to provide views to the riverfront to the

THE SITE THE CONCEPT

1. Monumental Axis The State Capitol grounds in Austin, Texas, proved to be a sensitive site, and one which embodied many traditional notions of monumentality.

The visitor center is sited in front of the under utilized northern grounds of the Capitol, featuring site lines that connect back to the University of Texas. By virtue of its location, this projects seeks to enhance this quarter of the site, and energize the northern capitol grounds with pedestrian ȠȖƺГljॹ ƺș ΛǓǹǹ ƺș ƺ ǿǓΛॹ ǏǩșȠǩǿljȠǩΚǓ Κǩșȣƺǹ ǹƺǿǏǾƺȖǷঀ 2. Laguna Gloria is an extension of the Contemporary Austin Art Museum, located on a peninsula west of the city. In addition to several art pieces on display, the site serves as a general park space with walking trails and great views of the hill country. I chose to locate my project at

THE SITE

3. Public Courtyards Hyde Park is a historic suburb of Austin, founded in 1891. This portion of the neighborhood, between 43rd and 44th street, has been heavily developed and the site lies in close proximity to several unsightly apartment complexes. Nestled between the low density bungalow housing of Hyde Park and the high density apartments, this experimental mid density housing seeks to reach a common ground between the two.

THE SITE THE CONCEPT

1. Site circulation

The site is located in the district of PÊrolles, south of Fribourg’s old town. Much of the area is the site of new and upcoming residential development and a new residential complex is planned for the site directly north of the museum. With our project, we desired to create a public park and plaza between this complex and the new museum. By sinking much of the program underground, we were able to create a gentle slope upward to a forested area behind the warehouse, emulating

THE SITE

The new administration building is designed in accordance with a proposed new master plan for the Rusk State Hospital. The building is designed to preserve the historic facade facing the town of Rusk, while providing an updated and functional building to the hospital campus. In order to aid and facilitate an environment of healing and rehabilitation, daylight and greenery are incorporated into the building whenever possible, and a permeable facade allows a constant connection with the campus environment, even when indoors.
