OLE MISS SOFTBALL COMPLEX

THIS 1,300 SEAT BALLPARK WAS DESIGNED TO REPLACE THE UNDERSIZED AND AGING SOFTBALL STADIUM AT OLE MISS, ENHANCING THE GAME DAY EXPERIENCE FOR FANS AS WELL AS CREATING NEW AND IMPROVED TEAM SPACES. I JOINED THIS PROJECT AFTER A MAJOR V.E. REDUCTION EXERCISE AND BEGAN CREATING BUBBLE DIAGRAMS AND PLANNING LAYOUTS FOR TEAM SPACES. AS THE PROJECT PROGRESSED, TEAM DYNAMICS ALLOWED ME TO TAKE A LEADING ROLE IN DEVELOPING OUR DESIGN FOR THE BUILDING EXTERIOR. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT OUR PROGRESS REGULARLY TO THE CAMPUS ARCHITECT AND FACILITIES MANAGER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI WHILE ENSURING THAT THE DESIGN DID NOT EXCEED OUR TIGHT BUDGET. IN THE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENT PHASE, HKS WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND DOCUMENTATION OF THE SEATING BOWL AND INTERIOR SPACES WHILE OUR LOCAL PARTNER ARCHITECT DOCUMENTED THE EXTERIOR. I GAINED VALUABLE EXPERIENCE COORDINATING NOT ONLY WITH CONSULTANTS, BUT WITH OUR ARCHITECTURAL PARTNERS TO ENSURE THAT THEIR DEVELOPMENT OF THE EXTERIOR MATCHED THE ORIGINAL VISION FOR THE PROJECT.

BUILT IN THE 1960’S, HISTORIC FALCON STADIUM IS AN ICONIC VENUE LOCATED ON THE CAMPUS OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY. THIS EXPANSION WAS DESIGNED TO REPLACE SECTIONS OF CHEAP METAL BLEACHERS ON THE EAST SIDE

OF THE STADIUM WITH A NEW CLUB BUILDING, ENHANCING AMENITIES FOR BOTH GENERAL ADMISSION AND PREMIUM PATRONS. I JOINED THIS PROJECT AT THE START OF SCHEMATIC DESIGN AND WAS ABLE TO TAKE ON A VARIETY OF JOBS GIVEN THE SMALL SIZE OF THE ARCHITECTURAL TEAM. BEGINNING WITH SPACE PLANNING EXERCISES, I MOVED ON TO STUDYING SIGHTLINES, COORDINATING WITH STRUCTURAL AND MEP ENGINEERS, GENERAL DOCUMENTATION, AND DRAWING EXTERIOR DETAILS. THE PROJECT SERVED AS AN IMPORTANT GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE UNIQUE ARCHITECTURAL REQUIREMENTS OF SPORTS VENUES.

THIS LARGE MULTIPURPOSE ARENA WAS ENVISIONED AS THE CROWN JEWEL OF THE DIRIYAH GATE URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN RIYADH, ACTING AS A SHOWPIECE FOR THE SURROUNDING BLOCKS OF MIXED USE RETAIL. MY ROLE ON THE PROJECT BEGAN WITH SCHEMATIC DESIGN, WHERE I WAS TASKED WITH WORKING ON THE SITE DESIGN TEAM AND COORDINATING WITH OUR LANDSCAPE AND CIVIL ENGINEERING PARTNERS. SITE DESIGN PROVIDED A HOST OF CHALLENGES GIVEN THE GRADING OF THE SITE, CLIENT DEMANDS FOR VEHICULAR CIRCULATION, AS WELL AS AN UNUSUALLY LARGE REQUIREMENT FOR ON-SITE PARKING. WHILE CHALLENGING, THIS HELPED ME TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEX SITE CONSTRAINTS AND REQUIREMENTS INHERENT IN LARGER CAPACITY VENUES. MUCH OF MY TIME ON THE PROJECT HAS BEEN SPENT ON THE PLANNING OF BELOW GRADE GARAGES, AS WELL AS ON THE DOCUMENTATION AND DETAILING OF SEATING BOWL CONDITIONS

THIS PROJECT ENCOMPASSED SEVERAL CHANGES REQUIRED TO ENABLE SOFI STADIUM TO HOST MATCHES IN THE 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP. AS THE ONLY MEMBER OF THE PROJECT TEAM IN A DRAFTING ROLE, I WORKED CLOSELY WITH THE LEAD PA TO PLAN AND EXECUTE A CD SET. SECTIONS OF THE SEATING BOWL AT THE CORNERS OF THE FIELD WERE DEMOLISHED AND REPLACED WITH DEMOUNTABLE PLATFORMS TO ACCOMMODATE THE LARGER FOOTPRINT OF A SOCCER PITCH. TO ACHIEVE THE REQUIRED DEPTH OF A FIFA APPROVED PITCH, WE PROVIDED A SCHEME TO RAISE THE FIELD TWO FEET WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY MAKING MODIFICATIONS TO FIELD LEVEL SUITES, CLUBS, AND VOMITORIES. THESE CHANGES REQUIRED CLOSE COORDINATION AND COMMUNICATION WITH OUR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER AND SEATING PLATFORM MANUFACTURER.

MIXED USE/OFFICE BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN DALLAS. I JOINED THE PROJECT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CONSTRUCTION

TASKS: MANAGING THE DOOR SCHEDULE, DRAWING EXTERIOR DETAILS, AND COORDINATING WITH THE STRUCTURAL

ENGINEERING TEAM. THE PROJECT PROVIDED VALUABLE

EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH CONSULTANTS AND PRESENTED

UNIQUE CHALLENGES IN DOCUMENTATION, GIVEN THE COMPLEX AND NON-ORTHOGONAL FACADE OF THE TOWER.

WITH THIS STUDIO PROJECT, I SOUGHT TO REINVIGORATE THE UNIVERSITY CO-OP ON GUADALUPE ST. BY CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT THAT SERVES AS THE HOME OF THE UT STUDENT BOTH PAST AND PRESENT, A PLACE WHERE STUDENT NEEDS CAN BE ACCOMMODATED YEAR-ROUND THAT ACTS AS A FOCAL POINT FOR CAMPUS LIFE BEYOND MERELY BEING A REPOSITORY FOR MERCHANDISE. TO ACCOMPLISH THIS TASK, I ENDEAVORED TO CREATE SPACES THAT WERE EXPERIENTIAL, ADDING A LAYER OF DYNAMISM AND INTEREST WITHIN THE BUILDING THAT PROVIDES THE CO-OP WITH A DISTINCT IDENTITY BEYOND THE MERCHANDISE ON DISPLAY. IN ADDITION TO CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT THAT EMULATES THE GAME DAY EXPERIENCE OF A FAN, I DESIGNED RETAIL FIXTURES WITH FLEXIBILITY IN MIND, ENABLING THE CO-OP TO EASILY CHANGE MODES DEPENDING ON USER NEEDS, CREATING SPACES THAT CAN HOST A WIDE RANGE OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES.
