When it came to clothes shopping in Plainville, Elba Roman saw that her options were limited to standard department stores.
“I figured a hometown boutique would be nice in this area to give people a different variety of clothes to wear and a different area to shop,” she said. When she set out to open her own store, Roman didn’t want to have a stereotypical boutique with expensive price tags and exclusively formal attire. She wanted to offer affordable and inclusive clothing options for women of all sizes.

MERIDEN — After more than a century and a half of independent, family ownership, the Record-Journal announced on Nov. 27 that it had reached a preliminary sales agreement with Hearst Connecticut Media Group. Under the agreement, HCMG will take ownership of all print and digital operations of RJ Media Group, including the Record-Journal, its seven weekly publications, and its digital advertising agency, according to Record-Journal Publisher Liz White Notarangelo.
